In the summer of 1940, England stood alone against the onslaught of the conquering Wehrmacht after it had overrun nearly all of Europe. But England’s fate was not to be decided on land or through the seas, but rather in the skies above. For it was here an epic battle would be waged between the outnumbered and exhausted RAF and the victory-laden Luftwaffe. This struggle would forever be known as the Battle of Britain.
Black Cross/Blue Sky: The Battle of Britain is a game designed to allow players to recreate some of the aerial battles fought over England during that summer. Each player assumes the role of a Flight Leader as they maneuver their groups of planes across a game board, made up of a hexagonal grid superimposed upon a map representative of the terrain, over which the battles took place.
This game is a new rendition of a miniature wargame first published in 1995. Over the years, the rules system has been polished and refined. Now, this rules system is presented in a new format. This game is the first in a series using the new 3-D game system which allows players to use either counters or miniatures with this game. Miniature gamers can now practice some scenarios using the counters as they are painting up their squadrons. Also, there are new planes types, new advanced rules, eleven scenarios (including one solitaire).
