A Top 15 of the Best Casual Cards from Avatar: The Last Airbender

Hello all and happiest of days to each of you! I hope that your day is going as well as possible! In this article series we look at all of the best cards from the set for all of the various casual formats from multiplayer and Commander to Five Color and Type Four! Ready? Steady!

#15. Katara, Water Tribe's Hope

Katara, Water Tribe's Hope

This fun five-drop Azorius 3/3 legendary lady with vigilance is next! When she enters, you bring with her a 1/1 Ally token. Then you can waterbend X to grow our stuff by that X. She is a Mirror Entity on legendary form, save no creature types are added and she arrives with a dork too. Waterbend is better since you can tap more to make her stuff work too. Also, you can grow her on other turns too, which is so great to skate! Put on those iceskates.

You'll make X many dorks here with that X spell! They are 1/1 Allies too! Then you'll also add a +1/+1 counter to all dorks, so if you just spent WW you could do that too, but I wish it weren't sorcery speed too, just as a heads up.

#13. The Mechanist, Aerial Artisan

The Mechanist, Aerial Artisan

This fun three-drop 1/3 Blue legendary dork with all of the noncreature casts you want to make a Clue token for card draw or just tapping for waterbending and such too! You can even tap this lad to make one a 3/1 flyer. Nice for twice!

#12. The Fire Nation Drill

This four-drop 6/3 trample Vee in Black! It's got crew two. Then when it arrives you can tap it to destroy a small power thing! You can also spend one mana here to remove the key answers of hexproof and indestructible too, nice! That's why it's here too.

#11. Toph, the First Metalbender

This fun four-drop Naya 3/3 legendary lady can arrive with non-token artifacts of ours lands! But no land tapping for mana. Then you can earthbend two in our end step too. If we can make those lands tap mana like Joiner Adept that's nasty good too.

This fun two-drop 2/3 Green rare is next. It's very simple but also game-changing too in it's implicitions. Our lands and Allies can tap for every color of mana imagineable. Yes that color too! Even purple. Enjoy and embrace this mass mana making two-drop to help cast stuff.

This three-drop Mardu 2/4 legedndary dork has firebending equal to it's power! Then you can turn casts of spells from exile and enter your battlefield too from it into +1/+1 counters on...all of my creatures? Really? Nasty, right? Right!

#8. Appa, Steadfast Guardian

Appa, Steadfast Guardian

When I look at a brand new card, one of the ways I assess it's power is in comparing it to established things that already existed. If this new card is a take on something that dominated it's format it's more likely to hit here, too! And more highly as well. There was a four-drop Restoration Angel from Avacyn Restored that just was nasty good as a flashing 3/4 flyer that flickered out something else. It was so powerful and dominated tons of formats too, from Standard to casual too. On curve for blocking and killing and such too? Nasty! This adds that size and cost, but here is usually better since you can hit nonland permants too, our foes, and then any number! The only issue here is that they are airbended, so everyone has to spend and drop. When you do so from exile though, for anything, you can make free 1/1 Allies here too! Embrace and enoy this interesting and nasty take on something that was already overpowered!

#7. Dai Li Agents

Dai Li Agents

This fun two-color Golgari uncommon 3/4 five-drop has an ETB to earthbend twice 1. Then this has a great game-winning win-con attack trigger to drain life from....each foe equal to creatures with counters count. That's just nasty in all of the places from earthbend to Spike Feeder to Fertilid to Cathars' Crusade. Embrace this fun win-con. Nasty in multiplayer too.

#6. Bender's Waterskin

As is this fun little colorless Mana Rock too! This costs three, taps for one and then untaps in all players' turn too, from opponents to allies in 2HG. This is so good the more players, and you can also tap for waterbend and such too.

#5. The 4 Ascensions

Next up is a cycle of enchantments in each of their four elements for the set. Airbender Ascension arrives with an airbend and then when our dorks arrive tosses a counter here! Then with four we can flicker our dork instead. Not bad for those brews! Then Waterbender Ascension, when we deal combat damage toss a counter until we get to four and draw. You can also waterbend four to make our dork unblockable! Then the two-drop Red Firebender Ascension arrives with a 2/2 firebending 1 and then adds counters here with just attacking and then triggering stuff, and we can double those attack triggers when we have four! The three-drop Earthbender Ascension enters with earthbend 2 and then you'll ramp a basic tapped - great stuff. Then when lands arrive, toss a counter and then once there are four, we can give our dork a counter and trample this turn too. Not bad with the ramp there, and then the Red is so strong doubling something too, and water is nasty making stuff unblockable. I feel that all three of those are strong right out of the gate or later too! But not the White one as much...sorry White or Airbend fans.

Hello and check out this amazing eight-drop colorless 0/30 legendary artifact wall with defender too! All of the other stuff we've got out and about while it's here gets the rough to answer Indestructible! After? We can cast sweepers like Wrath of God, Blasphemous Act and Akroma's Vengeance! Or just abuse this with toughness matters stuff or defenders and more! Its colorless nature means you can toss it in all of the places in some format where that matters you might have heard of before called Commander. It's even eligible to lead it too. This is one of my favorite cards in the new set, but it may not excite as many, hence it being here. Love it!

#3. Ran and Shaw

This fun five-drop legendary Red Dragon 4/4 with 2 firebending and then flying is next! It's also got firebreathing for our Dragon team for four mana and then pump two power which we can send our mana into! Then when this thang arrives, we can make a fun nonlegendary token copy of it too! All we need are at least three Lessons or Dragons in our graveyard. This is also legendary to lead a brew too.

#2. Badgermole Cub

This Mythic Green Bear ETBs with earthbend 1 and then when our dorks tap for mana it's a Mana Flare for them but Green mana is made instead! I just wish this great little baby were legendary so they could lead my brew or had added the enchantment type too or all colors and such. Not bad at all!

#1. Mai, Scornful Striker

Mai, Scornful Striker

This next up also Rare Bear but Legendary Leader Black is last. She's got first strike and then a Hate Bear as well, to make each player lose 2 life per non-dork spell they cast. This little lady has all of the power of one, but don't run her as a Commander, since she can feel a little mean to screen.
