The Top 15 Commanders from 2025 That Are Too Good To Play

Reddit

This year had tons of great play additions in Commander and in other places too. It felt a bit pushed too this year. We are looking today at ones I feel are pushed too far and you shouldn't run as Commanders.

#14. Edgar, King of Figaro

Edgar, King of Figaro

This six-drop 4/5 legendary dork is an amazing go wide artifact enabler, not as bad as a higher hitter, but still nasty good here. When he arrives, you'll basically refill our hand with the card draw for each of them you have, and that could be game over with combos, win-cons, interaction and more that are all drawn at once! Like it? I hope so! He's pretty nasty, but that static to win our first coin flip feels much nicer to build around. Embrace that half of him.

#13. Mm'menon, the Right Hand

Mm'menon, the Right Hand

Check out this five-drop 3/4 flyer legendary Jellyfish that also cares about artifacts too! Here you can cast them from our library's top like Future Sight! Then we can tap our artifacts for mana to cast them from non-hand spaces too. That's free casts and mana vs mad cards but once, so I rate this one spot more, but you may disagree.

#12. Gogo, Master of Mimicry

Gogo, Master of Mimicry

This three-drop 2/4 legendary Wizard only type known tapper is next! You can tap that XX mana to copy our triggered or activated ability that many times. I love this either leading or supporting tons of brews from Planeswalkers to Blink or Midrange with Mulldrifter, Chupacabra and Witness or Artifacts or even with ramp stuff like Solemn and Burnished Hart or Mind Stone or Expedition Map, also lands like Fetches and such too. It doesn't even say "permanent," so I suspect that'll work with cycling triggers too like Decree of Justice and such too.

#11. Kotis, the Fangkeeper

Kotis, the Fangkeeper

Coming to you from my favorite set this year is this four-drop 2/1 three color Sultai four-drop leader with indestructible so you cannot easily answer Kotis. This card has a nasty game-winning combat damage trigger to a foe to exile their top library cards equal to how much damage was dealt and then cast them for free if they cost that damage too. Just two damage here are things like Signets and Sol Rings to Skullclamp to Ponder to Sylvan Library and as you add to its power you really break things open too. I know. Please don't!

#10. Sin, Unending Cataclysm AND Siegfried, Famed Swordsman

Sin, Unending Cataclysm
Siegfried, Famed Swordsman

Next up are these two win-con legendary dorks that have evasion and then arrive with double that size of counters to. Sin is the nasty land and card draw counter combo of Simic and then and has both flying and trample. It's got a seven-drop 5/5 body and then ETBs, pulls all counters of all any number nonland and nonplaneswalkers and then doubles them! Then when this dies, we'll toss its counters on something and tuck. Then that four-drop Black menacing 2/2 arrives and mills three and then doubles your creature count in our graveyard in counters too.

#9. Nissa, Worldsoul Speaker

Nissa, Worldsoul Speaker

This four-drop rare legendary take on Nissa is next. She's got landfall to make two energy each. Then you can spend 8 energy for a free permanent getting cast. That does count as casting for things like Eldrazi Titans and such. Everyone loves landfall, free spells and energy too so that's why she's here and good to go, Idaho!

#8. Ultima, Origin of Oblivion

Ultima, Origin of Oblivion

Next up is this colorless and nasty God for five mana on a 4/4 flyer body. It's legendary but don't run it since when you swing you can toss a counter on anyone's land to just be colorless mana and then we tap lands for colorless we'll make two. Now, as a leader of Commander, your lands already tap for colorless and will be Mana Flared, right? So, this is for your foes to cut off them from their colors. Don't play the God.

#7. Fire Lord Azula

Fire Lord Azula

This Grixis colored legendary four-drop legendary lady with on-curve 4/4 size and firebending two. Then when we cast a spell from it or other stuff while she's swinging, we get a free copy. Since any spell counts, she's very bonkers good.

#6. Gwenom, Remorseless

Gwenom, Remorseless

This powerful broken force of mono-Black legendary leader attacking nature is next. When this five-drop deathtouch and lifelinking 4/4 attacks, you can cast the top card of our library for free this turn for life like Bolas's Citadel. You do expose her getting killed, but that deathtouch will trade with someone that does so. You can protect her with evasion like Rogue's Passage or such, and then you can just win fast with free casts combos and such too. Don't run her!

#5. Kefka, Dancing Mad

Kefka, Dancing Mad

This seven-drop legendary Rakdos win-con with indestructible on our turn - which is great for control here for sweeping and then at the beginning of our end step to exile a card from each foe's graveyard and then we can cast them all also free and our foes lose their card's cost in life, not us. Nasty I know. Sorry. Card draw and free casts while killing them on an indestructible body is just nasty good.

#4. Vivi Orniter

Vivi Ornitier

This broken in tons of formats pushed three-drop legendary 0/3 Izzet spellslinger is next! He has a noncreature spell to make him bigger, like prowess, but then they stay as counters and then all foes eat damage too! Then once a turn you can in our turn create his power in mana and that's not a tap ability. I know! He was already broken with a tap and then Guttersnipe combined with size growth too and that's not just sorceries and instants too. You can use him to pump him up and cast stuff and swing. Do not run Vivi ever.

#3. Ozai, the Phoenix King

Ozai, the Phoenix King

This also pricey six-drop Rakdos game-winner harder mana but nasty and had a great size with 7/7 and then three nasty keywords, trample as evasion, haste to swing now, and the firebending four for tons of mana made. Then our unspent remains and it's red too! Then if we have his cost in unspent mana he gets every one's fave evasion keyword - flying which is nasty with that trample and then indestructible too. I know.

#2. Sami, Wildcat Captain

Sami, Wildcat Captain

This six-drop legendary Boros 4/4 double striking and vigilance is already a nasty for kills and swings for 8 damage and then doesn't keep us open for counters on the ground. But then this is nasty for going wide artifacts since all of my spells have that nasty affinity for artifacts. We all know how broken that is from artifact lands to nasty stuff other stuff and often free stuff and that's not artifact we have but all of our spells too! From Eldrazi Titans free to getting X spells for mad costs reduced and that's not just once. It keeps on getting more as more-nasty as more and more stuff are cast.

#1. Absolute Virtue

Absolute Virtue

Could there be anything else here? I know! This broken FF boss Azorius colored eight-drop 8/8 flyer is nasty since we cannot counter it and traditionally answer it before it arrives. Then I have protection from all foes. That's better than hexproof since while we cannot be targeted that also means this can swing for wins without leaving us open to combat damage. And then you can easily win with the position this puts us in, so it had to be here since it's just way too nasty and rough to handle legendary leader!

And there we go! Those are my must-steer clear of and I hope you agree with that too! And then what did you think and what's your just too dominant Commanders to attempt to build around too! Right? Right!
