For the uninitiated, it was recently announced that Legendary and Hasbro are going to be working together on a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe. The plan is to include a full-length movie and a TV show. While it is easy to speculate on what the movie and series topic will be, anyone with Magic: The Gathering mythos knowledge knows The Lorwyn Five, and ultimately, The Gatewatch, is a good place to start.
The Gatewatch was Magic: The Gathering's own Avengers. With some of the most powerful characters in the game's multiverse coming together to stop several threats. Of the group, the leonin planeswalker, Ajani Goldmane, is one of the most recognizable. His lore runs deep. And he's been a mentor to other younger heroes (see Ajani, Mentor of Heroes)
If Ajani were in the upcoming Magic: The Gathering movie or show, he would most assuredly be fully CGI. He's tall, standing at 6' 6", and has an amazing physique. Plus, it's worth noting that he's also a Nacatl leonin, which means he's a cat guy. That means that Ajani Goldmane would need to be cast for his voice over all else.
Other characters in the world of Magic: The Gathering talk about how speaking with Ajani is the best way to get pumped up. Others have spoken about how fearsome he can be as well. Ajani learned a lot about his path in life by being an outcast in his own tribe, with little to no friends outside of the unwavering support of his brother. Ajani, Nacatl Pariah
His brother was killed in a betrayal and that event sparked Ajani's soul, making him a planeswalker. He walked a path of revenge before learning the hard way that he would only find his own end that way. When I think of these characteristics, I can't help but think of how he mirrors God of War's Kratos. Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos, would be a phenomenal fit for Ajani. The grave and deadpan delivery as he deals with younger planeswalkers would be amazing. Ajani, Vengeant
As Ajani grew in the story of the world, he mellowed out and became one of the most respected people in the multiverse. He helped end the threat of Nicol Bolas and also became a mentor and confidant to many other characters. Ajani's actor will need to portray a little silliness when needed. He wouldn't be comic relief, but more like the cool dad of the group. He needs a disarming voice. Another solid suggestion would be Dave Bautista. The man has a ton of range, but could also deliver on the motion capture side of things. Ajani, Aspiring Leader
Ajani's story is also fraught with tragedy. The death of his brother was his awakening, but he also lost numerous friends along the way. His close friend, Elspeth Tirel, also died despite Ajani's best efforts. Ajani's voice also needs to have a slightly somber tone. He needs to give a performance of weight and regret, alongside hope. Idris Elba has a voice that is tough but nurturing. Based on his performance of Knuckles in the Sonic series, he'd be a fantastic addition. Ajani, Valiant Protector
After the War of the Spark Ajani was sent to help some other allies stop another threat. At this point, it was revealed that Ajani had gone through the Phyrexian process called compleation and was now essentially an enemy cyborg. This was absolutely shocking because Ajani was easily the most trusted member of the Magic: The Gathering story crew. Another actor whose voice would fit everything that is Ajani would be Vin Diesel. Family memes aside, the matter-of-fact delivery Vin Diesel has would fit Ajani incredibly well.
Ajani was eventually uncompleated with the sacrifice of other characters and learned that Elspeth had returned. He retained his spark, but was more or less left reeling from the events at the end of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One story. After a brief battle with another surviving planeswalker, Nahiri, Ajani hasn't been seen again in the Magic: The Gathering story. Ajani, The Greathearted
Ajani's overall story is filled with peaks and valleys. As more or less the mentor to characters like Chandra and just an overall reliable guy, he's a fan favorite. Ajani also happens to be one of the more senior planeswalkers when considering his overall experience, except for a few extremely older, more homicidal ones. Ajani is basically the paladin of the group and fills his role better than most could.

If the Legendary series focuses on planeswalkers, Ajani absolutely needs to be included. I'm excited to see what they do with him, as he is a very cool character in the story. We know he will be seen in the Netflix series, as the teaser image shows him and Chandra. Time will only tell though.
