With sixteen rounds, two formats, and hundreds of players behind them, eight players moved on to play Modern on the Sunday stage at Pro Tour Born of the Gods. This Pro Tour was largely defined by decks that had no interest in playing fair Magic with their opponents, and that trend was born out in the Top 8 decks.

In the quarterfinals, we saw Chris Fennel's Storm deck peter out while Jacob Wilson delivered the beatdowns with a motley assortment of Kitchen Finks and Voice of Resurgences. We saw Lee Shi Tian attempt to Blood Moon out Anssi Alkio and his UR Splinter Twin deck, only to be beaten to death by an infinite army of Exarchs and Faeries. Shaun McLaren triumphed in the battle of UWR-based strategies, with his Cryptic Command, Path to Exiles and Sphinx's Revelations making it all but impossible for Tim Rivera to assemble one his his Splinter Twin or Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker combos. Finally, Patrick Dickmann managed to take a tight game three in the most unlikely of ways, redirecting Christian Seibold's Arcbound Ravager[/card trigger to his own [card]Spellskite to come in for lethal.

The semifinals saw Patrick Dickmann's collection of Tarmogoyfs and Scavenging Oozes taken out by Shaun McLaren's Sphinx's Revelation control deck, while Jacob Wilson was able to attack Alkio to death before Alkio could assemble his [card]Splinter Twin combo.

In the finals, Jacob Wilson and his Birthing Pod deck squared off against Shaun McLaren's UWR Control deck packed with Lightning Bolts and Lightning Helixes backed by Snapcaster Mage and Sphinx's Revelation. Wilson did all he could to fight through all of McLaren's removal and countermagic, but was unable to assemble enough of an offense before McLaren took over with Cryptic Commands and Sphinx's Revelations.
