Grand Prix Las Vegas Artist News, Week 3

Reddit

Week three for announcement of artists has a bunch of known favorites. If I could give any pro tips, one would be that many tournament staples will have similar signing/alteration feels to them, so try to find something out of the ordinary for your Cube or try to find a foil or foreign card. They don’t all get to see those versions of their cards!

We have our first panorama artist at Grand Prix Vegas, and boy, those prints make incredible office artworks on your walls for how inexpensive they are.

Onto the lesser known pieces by the last week of announced artists for Grand Prix Las Vegas, coming in May!

-Mike

Steve Argyle — Sixty-Three Card Artworks

Steve will have a massive line, and I would be selective on what you choose. He can do incredible alterations, and he works fast on every Liliana he can get his hands on. I really enjoy his Angel token from Gatecrash, and two of his promos listed below are just wonderful artworks.

Jung Park — Thirty-Seven Card Artworks

It appears that only thirty-seven artworks are listed . . . don’t let that fool you. He did five full-art Zendikar lands. Two panoramas are listed below. I’d really check very closely for artworks you own to see. I’d buy a boatload of prints of panoramas—I know I will!

Bryon Wackwitz — Twenty-One Card Artworks

Bryon has done a ton of boom-boom early works, so beyond those, be sure to find a foil Pendelhaven from Time Spiral. The other Pendelhaven is foil, but it’s not Bryon’s art. Get that art! His pain land is one of the originals and has a nice, light feeling to it—it’s Kev Walker–like, if you will. I hear he does a lot more sketching on artist-proof backs if you ask super-nicely.

Kieran Yanner — Thirteen Card Artworks

Yeah, he’s done Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle but don’t forget that he did the Friday Night Magic Browbeat! I love his new Assault Formation, which will be Commander-relevant. Maybe. Probably. It just needs a few cards to make it a must-acquire Commander card, so I’d pick up an artist proof for sure!

Howard Lyon — Seventy-Eight Card Artworks

I love his Life's Legacy art for a children’s room!

Did you know that he’s closing in on a hundred artworks? I bet not!

I love these two artworks of his, and remember that he did both Guildgates of Simic!

Chris Rahn – One Hundred Five Card Artworks

Chris is the artist who has had regular paintings start at $2,500 and move upward of $10,000 on eBay, beyond the numerous art awards they win. His Black Lotus was absurd in the teen thousands, and now . . . It’s underpriced at double that. The art market is funny like that. I like his Wolf token a lot, and his Tinker is very beautiful. It’s a shame that the foil is from From the Vault, but I have faith we’ll see it reprinted in time. Also, his Baloth is stellar! Were I you, I’d have things signed and pick up a limited-edition print if he has any.

Aleksi Briclot — Sixty-Six Card Artworks (Nine Planeswalkers!)

Aleksi is Planeswalker—no question there. He even painted himself as Tezzeret, turning it in with his original five. Later, they used it on a card! I’d like to mention that, as Battle for Zendikar is coming up, his Eldrazi Spawn token may be needed, so see what his table has for weird swag/alterations in that department. I also like his Akroma's Vengeance for FTV:20 to see if he has a print available.

Chuck Lukacs — Twenty Card Artworks

Yes, Chuck has two great art commissions in Doubling Season and Land Tax. His Thorn of Amethyst will also need a signature if you’re going the Vintage route, but his massive Theros marbles is what you should see. He did over twenty images in the series, and they’re all beautiful. If you’re into original art that passes the sofa test, it’s well worth the $500 to $600 per piece! Also, make sure to pick up an artist-proof Worm token for your Cube!
