Mystery Booster: Commander Edition (MBC) is officially releasing in November during MagicCon Atlanta. We'll be getting a total of 80 unique cards that are all able to be your Commander that will only be available in these Booster Packs.
Some of these Creatures have the brand new Rulebreaker mechanic that bends the format's deck-building restrictions and open up totally new ways to play. The Legendary Creature of today's focus is The Everforger, a six-mana Legendary Artifact Construct Creature that doubles the first Artifact Creature or Equipment you cast each turn.
The Everforger also includes a Rulebreaker ability that allows you to play Artifact Creatures and Equipment of any color identity in the 99. This means for the first time ever, you can now play a deck with any Equipment cards and have a Commander that synergizes with them.
Artifact Creatures and Equipment
Commander decks focused on Artifacts and Artifact spells are some of the most prevalent in the game. To old favorites like Breya, Etherium Sculptor and to new options like Ultron, Artificial Malevolence, there is a never-ending stream of support for Artifact decks. What makes The Everforger unique is the fact that you can play all the Artifact Creatures from across all of Magic's five colors.
We've got 1,229 Artifact Creatures to choose from along with 620 pieces of Equipment to put in their hands. Combining unique Equipment and powerful Artifact Creatures is the key to unlocking the real potential of The Everforger.
Decklist for The Everforger
Bracket 2 is where this deck falls in line. Even with the Rulebreaker ability, you still have to rely on Colorless sources for every other card that is not an Artifact Creature or Equipment. With this in mind, you unfortunately lose out on all the most powerful ways to use Equipment spells.
Playing this combat focused deck of the same power level as most precons seems perfect. Your Commander is six mana, which can take a few turns to get out, and then you need to untap with him to start to get some value back. Prepare for a slower, grindy game, where combat and life totals are very important.

Finding the Right Tool for the Job
Magic: The Gathering has a long history of powerful Equipment spells. Finally having a deck to showcase every single one, no matter the color identity, is very exciting. But, there are a few things to keep in mind when selecting the right Equipment for this deck.
First off, since your Commander is colorless you lose out on some of the best ways to cheat Equipment costs. Sigarda's Aid, Puresteel Paladin, Forge Anew, and Fighter Class are all amazing cards in Equipment focused decks. This means you need to pay close attention to how much mana it requires to equip a Creature to make sure you're getting that value.
Secondly, your Equipment needs to fill in some roles other than helping kill your opponents. Many new cards have "Enter the Battlefield" abilities to make them more viable in modern day Magic. Some of these include ways to remove your opponent's threats or blockers in a pinch. Your removal is going to be incredibly limited because of The Everforger being a colorless Commander. Find Equipment that knocks key pieces off the board and helps deal massive amounts of damage.
Lastly, don't forget about the Legend Rule. You can only have one Legendary permanent with the same name in play at a time. Lots of powerful Equipment are Legendary. Shadowspear, Umezawa's Jitte, Blackblade Reforged, and Embercleave are staple Equipment for most decks focused on a strategy similar to The Everforger.
However, since our Commander is going to make copies of things, I left most Legendary cards out of this list.
Removal Equipments
Equipment that removes your opponent's Creatures and other permanent types on the board is a key way to guarantee combat damage gets dealt. Chainsaw is a perfect example of what you should be looking for.
Bespoke Bo and Glider Staff are two perfect pieces for your arsenal coming from the TMNT (TMT) and Avatar (TLA) sets. Bespoke Bo is a bounce spell on a staff that grants Vigilance. Making sure you have blockers after combat is a good way to make sure your opponents don't retaliate against you after swinging a massive Creature their way.
Glider Staff Airbends a Creature when it enters play. You could Airbend your own Creature to recast it and get a copy with The Everforger or clear a blocker out of the way for a clean swing.
Assimilation Aegis not only serves as a Banishing Light, but also a Clone. This often forgotten Azorius Artifact from Thunder Junction (OTJ) can steal your opponent's best Creature and use it against them.
Sword of Fire and Ice and Sword of Sinew and Steel are the final pieces of removal coming from the included Equipment. These swords offer protection from two colors and remove either an Artifact or a small value Creature from your opponent's side of the battlefield. Protection can be nice against removal or to sneak in for damage.
Key Equipments
You can't deal combat damage if you can't get past your opponent's blockers. Flying is the easiest and most common keyword to find on Equipment spells. Zephyr Boots, Winged Boots, and Iron Man Armor grant this keyword to any Creature you choose.
Maul of the Skyclaves and Cloudsteel Kirin also grant Flying with a little bit more upside than the other spells above. The Everforger can also create a copy of these allowing more of your Creatures to get in for damage.
Card draw is also a very important thing to look for on Equipment and Artifact Creatures. Pact Weapon is the coolest card to use as a draw engine. It will pump the Creature when it attacks and put a card in your hand, just like a Dark Confidant.
Pact Weapon also makes it so you can't lose the game as long as a Creature wields it. This card is also not Legendary, so having multiple copies draws more cards and provides multiple layers of protection.
Hammer of Nazahn and Bladehold Warwhip fill in the gaps left behind by Sigarda's Aid and the others in that family. Freely equipping a Creature is huge. Casting an Equipment and then paying the Equipment cost could use up all your available mana on your turn.
A handful of useful value Creatures are also here to help make sure your Creatures can pick up a sword quickly. Brass Squire and Codsworth, Handy Helper will throw Equipment straight into a willing Creature's grubby paws. Armory Automaton will grab every Equipment he sees when he enters play.
Now let's figure out what Creatures should be holding a sword and running blindly into combat.
Artifact Creatures Worthy of a Blade
The Everforger also creates a copy of an Artifact Creature once per turn. Some of these Creatures are perfect targets to equip with a sword or two to deal massive amounts of damage. Artifact Creatures with built in evasion, large power, or combat damage triggers are all present here.
Cephalopod Sentry and Furnace Hellkite are two of the more simplistic Creatures in the deck. They are just big Flying Creatures. Cephalopod Sentry can grow steadily over the course of the game while Furnace Hellkite can come down for a very large discount thanks to Affinity.
Phyrexian Fleshgorger and Giggling Skitterspike are two Creatures that care about how much power they have. Phyrexian Fleshgorger can have a very large Ward cost making him not pleasant to remove. This massive metal Wurm also has Menace and Lifelink, two perfect keywords to build up from.
Giggling Skitterspike will deal damage to each opponent when it attacks equal to its current power. Equip with as many tools as possible and swing this nightmarish horror for the fences.
There are a handful of generic but large Creatures with some nice keywords that are perfect canvases for Equipment. These are all good options:
Splash a little Sword of Fire and Ice here and dab a little Maul of the Skyclaves here and start attacking.
Final Blow
Pumping your Creatures and giving them a plethora of keywords ends games pretty quickly. One keyword stands out when it comes to combat damage: Double Strike. Brass Knuckles and Leyline Axe both give Double Strike.
Brass Knuckles creates a copy on cast in addition to the copy that The Everforger creates. Leyline Axe can start the game in play, a very awesome pre-game action that speeds up this deck drastically.
Finally, are the All that Glitters Equipment. These cards provide a +1/+1 buff for each Artifact you control. Adaptive Omnitool, Cranial Plating, Nettlecyst, and Swordsman's Steel provide the largest powerbuffs in this list.
Equip any one of these to a massive Cephalid Sentry or Giggling Skitterspike and ravage your opponents life total.
All four of these are worth the mulligan in the early game. This deck may struggle to close out games without one of these on the battlefield. It works as a Craterhoof Behemoth effect for Equipment.
Conclusion
The Everforger is a really awesome Rulebreaker Commander that allows for some interesting choices when it comes to deck building.
This Legendary Construct won't be seeing any competitive play but will be a perfect fit for someone looking to play Equipment strategies in a lower bracket level. Have fun scouring the Magic armories for swords.
