Top Ten #3 from Foundations!

Reddit

Hello happy kitchen casual table players! I hope your day is going super mega well! Today I wanted to look at my third slate of choices for the Top Ten from MTG Foundations. This is for new cards only, not reprints, for Commander, multiplayer, Highlander, Type Four, Five Color, Pauper and Peasant and more! This is a sequel to the 1st Top Ten a couple of weeks ago here, and last week here.

Honorable Mentions

Curator of Destinies

Curator of Destinies

This six-drop 5/5 flying Sphinx cannot be countered. It arrives with you dividing your top five cards into two piles, and then your foe will choose one face down or up, and you'll draw it, and then the rest head to graveyard. You should be able to do some weird things here since one half they won't know at all. Also, this is uncounterable, so you cannot stop the card draw trigger traditionally, nicely done. Then what wasn't selected for your hand heads to your graveyard for recursion, threshold, delirium, or flash back.

Revenge of the Rats

Revenge of the Rats

I love a flashbacking mass token making spell that scales up as the game goes on, like Grizzly Fate's threshold to break things open. This four-cost and flashback cost too will make tapped 1/1 Rats for each dork in your graveyard! That's great with milling or against it, card draw like the above Curator of Destinies or Fact or Fiction, surveil, and loads more! Get this and run this all up and down, and make that choo choo sound!

Bulk Up AND Boltwave

Bulk Up
Boltwave

Bulk Up has a two-cost flashbackable doubling of your dork's power. Typically this is Double Strike for two mana like Boros Charm. Run them both for a fast kill outta nowhere with a Commander or Voltron. The one-mana sorcery will shoot all foes for three damage. Sizzle for three mana was heavily played once printed, a two mana fewer is nasty good too! Toss this into a Burn, or damage doubling shell!

Sphinx of Forgotten Lore AND Inspiration from Beyond

Sphinx of Forgotten Lore
Inspiration from Beyond

Next up is a spell recursion pair! The dork costs four for a flashing 3/3 flyer with an attack trigger to give them flashback this turn with their costs, and this can do EOT or blocking smaller flyers with flash tricks too. Love that loads with the sorcery that cost three and then flashbacks too! On resolution it will mill three and then Relearn a spell. And you can do it twice. Love this pair with self-mill or the above stuff that I mentioned.

Midnight Snack

Midnight Snack

This three-cost Food making enchantment in Black is next! It will make you a free Food each EOT of yours if you attacked, easily done with an attacking Commander or other things. Then you can spend three and sacrifice this for forcing one foe to lose life equal to what you gained. Just one, but with the mass and easily life gain today like Congregate and Beacon of Immortality? Cough...that's nasty...cough. Insert White and stir!

Goblin Negotiation

Goblin Negotiation

This uncommon X spell in Red has two mana to start and only shoots a dork. Then you can make a number of 1/1 Goblins equal to the excess damage dealt. If you burned a 4/6 Consecrated Sphinx for 9, you'll make three tokens. This adores damage multiplayers like Furnace of Rath or is ideal for mana sinks like Treasures, Nykthos or Cabal Coffers. Smash their best dork or Commander and grab the game with your mass attacks! From tokens to burn to goblins its great in loads of places.

Preposterous Proportions

Preposterous Proportions

This splashable seven-costed sorcery gives your team a massive size boost of +10/+10 and vigilance too to keep them back. In multiplayer, you should have enough open players to kill them with giant stuff, but note they don't get trample, menace or another form of evasion, just that vigilance and huge swell. Hence it being on my third list and not first. Love it loads and it will end games against many, just not someone with a bunch of chump blockers.

Elenda, Saint of Dusk AND Exemplar of Light

Elenda, Saint of Dusk
Exemplar of Light

My lowest scoring new multicolor leader from the set is this four-cost Orzhov 4/4 with lifelink and hexproof from instant to save her. If your life is one more she's a 5/5 with menace and then 10/10 with ten more life. You need to get her life up and then keep it up, like Voltron, which is a weird way to build life gain, I built around her here (https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/abesargent-11192024-building-around-fun-life-gain-themes-with-elenda-sant-of-dusk-in-commander). If you are running her, you might as well run White Angel flying 3/3 that gets bigger as you gain life and draws cards too, but just one per turn.

Firespitter Whelp

Firespitter Whelp

Hello Guttersnipe and Dragon fans! I've got your pinging with flying all foes this time for Dragons too, as well as noncreatures, but just one damage per, not two. It's strong in all Dragon or spell heavy brews, ideally both.

Spinner of Souls

Spinner of Souls

This three-drop reaching 4/3 Spider is next! When your stuff dies if it wasn't a token you can reveal your deck until a dork and draw it. Nasty good, right? Right!

#10. Soulstone Sanctuary

Soulstone Sanctuary

Hello happy land fans, this colorless tapper is our first on the final Top Ten! It uses four mana but doesn't tap to make itself a colorless 3/3 vigilance and all creature types. Note that doesn't read to end at the EOT. You can toss it into all kindred brews!

#9. Electroduplicate

Electroduplicate

Another flashbacking sorcery is next with a base three this time and just one more mana for flashing back. This makes a hasted one turn token copy of some creature you control, with that EOT sac built in, just like, say, the beloved Mirror Breaker or his Reflection. Love him loads, and this too! From midrange to blink to Clones Matter to Spellslinger there are tons of great places for this.

#8. Scrawling Crawler

Scrawling Crawler

This three-drop 3/2 colorless is next, with the ability for everyone to draw a card in your upkeep like Howling Mine, and then your foe's will lose life for each card drawn. That colorless identity was easy to add to your Commander brews, but artifact and dork makes it super easy to answer compared to say Underworld Dreams or Howling Mine just three colors each, but both here on one card colorless investment is pretty strong.

#7. Raise the Past

Raise the Past

This four-mana mass recursion spell for just your cheap 2 or fewer costs stuff is next. That's strong if you've got a graveyard full of Birds of Paradise, Esper Sentinel, Mother of Runes, and Soul Warden that are classics in the multiplayer and causal and Commandering games. Not bad at all, but this is very much restricted to decks with loads of cheap stuff since it's not non-dorks like Mind Stone or Nihil Spellbomb or Seal of Primordium. Or three-cost dorks, so just things like Aggro or Hate Bears will work there, but not many.

#6. Lunar Insight

Lunar Insight

This three-cost card draw sorcery is next! For each mana value you control, draw a card! So if you have Sol Ring, Lightning Greaves and a three-cost Commander that's three cards you'll draw. That level of flexibility is great here.

#5. Tinybones, Bauble Burglar

Tinybones, Bauble Burglar

This two-mana legendary leader 1/3 mono-Black dork is next to lead your deck! When your foe's discard, the card is exiled with a stash counter and on your turn you can cast them. Any mana can be spent, so your Swamp can make that Green for Cultivate. Then you can tap him with four mana at sorcery speed to make all of your foe's discard...nasty synergy with his abilities there too!

#4. Hinterland Sanctifier AND Dazzling Angel

Hinterland Sanctifier
Dazzling Angel

These two commons are next! The 1/2 one-drop Rabbit has a life gain trigger for your stuff entering the battlefield. It's rocking a bigger butt than Soul Warden, but just for your stuff. The Angel costs three for a 2/3 flyer that has the same ability, on an evasive threat. Or blocker too. Each nice bigger toughness for the blocking. Love this life gain duo loads!

#3. Nine-Lives Familiar

Nine-Lives Familiar

The first new card debuted is this rare Black three-drop, three words, 1/1. It arrives with eight counters, and then each time it dies it comes back with one fewer, but EOT. You'll have to wait a while, sure, but free nine total bodies to sacrifice to things like Aristocrats for Phyrexian Altar or Goblin Bombardment is nasty good.

#2. Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate

Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate

This three-drop Rakdos creature with first strike is our penultimate card. When they swing at a foe toss a +1/+1 on them, then EOT you can return for free a creature with mana value of their power or fewer to the battlefield from your graveyard, and then that's only if you attacked. I love them loads leading a Commander deck or in the 99 of others.

#1. Zul Ashur, Lich Lord; Shout Out to Arahbo, the First Fang

Zul Ashur, Lich Lord
Arahbo, the First Fang

These two mono-colored dorks are my final spot in my final list! Each are legendary, kindred, and 2/2 and rare. The Black one costs two and has ward 2 life to protect. Then it can tap for no mana to cast that one Zombie from your graveyard this turn, you'll need to target and the lack of mana up front keeps your options free for what you cast. The White three-drop 2/2 gives all other Cats +1/+1 and when this or others ETB that aren't tokens, make a free 1/1 Cat token. Will this put the not-strong tribe on the march as a Commander or in the 99? We'll see!

Those are my final thoughts on the new stuff from MTG Foundations. I hope you enjoyed it! Next week we'll hit up Jumpstart from this set too.
