Earth Reborn is a detailed game of tactical combat, players take charge of a group of individual characters, then use a unique order and command system to activate them to perform actions such as Move, Close Combat, Shoot, Search, & Interact. Players must carefully decide how to allocate their Command Tokens, which indicate what actions may be performed, and how many Command Points may be spent on those actions. Players must then carefully consider how best to spend their Command Points on the actions they have available, while keeping in mind the things they want other characters to do, as well as the desire to hold back Command Points and actions to counter what the enemy is doing!
Combat is detailed, but streamlined. Each character has different abilities when it comes to close combat and shooting, and is better or worse depending on their facing. Some characters are strong all around, some (like Jack Saw) are
particularly strong on one side, and others had better use Command Points to move as far away from potential enemies as they can! Depending on a particular character's statistic, combat will deal a specific amount of damage, or players will roll dice, hoping for the ever delightful Critical Hits (ever delightful if they appear on the dice you are rolling!).
Earth Reborn includes a range of skill areas, statistics and abilities beyond Moving, Close Combat and Shooting. Players can Search and Interact, and individual characters will have their own special skills, that add a dynamic and interesting set of options to the game. Since Earth Reborn is scenario based these 'other' areas become key aspects of satisfying a mission objective.
As players play through the scenarios of Earth Reborn, they will be introduced to more and more layers of the game system. The final scenarios include the full rules system in all its glory. We've been teasing this game for the last few issues, and we are very excited now it's getting close to release! How will you fare, in the world of Earth Reborn?
