Hello and happiest of days to each of you happy folks! I hope that your day and life are going into the best possible direction!
For my first MTG Avatar brew I did the new Shrines and a Shrine Commander in the set here. Then I wanted to grab a Lesson brew around the three-color leader with them here, but someone else grabbed it so I went mono-Green instead with Bumi here. Everyone adored Allies back when they were released, so that's next today for this article. Then all three of the new takes on old themes will have been done.
She's my favorite Ally leader in the set for a few reasons. First her three-drop on-curve 3/3 works early and is cheap enough if answered a few times. Then that three-drop in Bant gives us Green for ramp too which is always key. Then that ability to double them all in legendary form is also strong too.
Ready? Steady!
Mana, Rocks, and Lands Too
Let's get started with this fun Ally matters duo. The two-drop rare one with a 2/3 body is first! All of our lands and Allies tap for mana. Then that cute 0/1 two-drop one taps for mana equal to the Ally count this time!
Patchwork Banner will pump your Ally team while also tapping for any color. Then White Lotus Tile arrives tapped for a turn off. But you'll get that value back easily by tapping for the Harabaz Druid above mass mana!
And now some lands. I did toss in the legendary land above that does the same for the Lotus and Druid above like a nasty Cabal Coffers or Nykthos. Then that Cave taps for colorless, cannot be blocked and then taps with four to make two of our Allies unblockable too.
Synergies and Win-Cons
And now synergies! A four-drop pair in Azorius leads us out. The White 3/5 Hakoda, Selfless Commander with vigilance is first. You can cast Allies from the top of our library!
Then you can sac it for pumping our team and then indestructible with no tapping or mana any time! Then the Blue 2/4 The Blue Spirit can be a flash for our first creature cast in all turns! Then we can draw when a dork arrives in combat too - so a Future Sight and flash engine here. I also tossed in Alchemist's Refuge.
Next up are this mono-White trio of triumph. The two-drop 1/1 common is a Soul Warden variant with you gaining life for each Ally you control as they arrive. Then that three-drop rare 2/3 will turn Ally arrivals into a pro-color of that turn, which is great to get ready for an Alpha Strike. Then that five-drop 4/4 uncommon first striker is last. When he gets his swing on you dig four and draw an Ally, Equipment or Lesson too - great card flow there.
Next up are two ways to also double our triggers. Starfield Vocalist does it for all permanents arriving not just dorks too. I also tossed in Panharmonicon. Then that four-drop ward 2 Roaming Throne chooses Ally on arrival and then is their type and then doubles all of their triggers, not just ETB stuff. It just has to be here.
The X spell sorcery United Front with double White to start will make 1/1 White Allies in a big old number! Then we can grow our team with a +1/+1 counter too! Then that six-drop legendary Aang and Katara with an ETB or attack trigger will make 1/1 Allies equal to our tapped dork and artifact, which is strong after each attack in our second phase. We'll also have some repeatable waterbend so we can just fill that board! And then make tons of mana with our Three Tree City stuff too.
Now let's look at this fun duo. The seven-drop rare White 6/6 flying and vigilance is great since you can swing and then hold back for the blocking too. Then when our Allies or it arrives, we can grow our team with +1/+1 and then flying and vigilance too - so a better Craterhoof here. Then that fun 1/1 Green three-drop tapper will make a land into a X/X Ally size, but just for the turn.
And now let's go tall, starting with Earth King's Lieutenant. When he arrives, toss a counter on each of our Allies. Then as they arrive you can toss a counter here. Then the four-drop uncommon legendary lady Suki, Kyoshi Warrior is next with a 4 toughness and power equal to our dork count! No trample here though, but Rogue's Passage and Secret Tunnel help. When she swings, we'll also make a tapped and attacking 1/1 one too. I grabbed her in my first release day FNM winning draft and she did good work there in Esper with Hakoda above too.
The common-two-drop 1/3 Halimar Excavator has an Ally trigger to mill someone equal to your count - pretty fast there! Then Katara, Water Tribe's Hope, the five-drop 3/3 vigilance is next! She arrives with an Ally and then waterbends X to make everything that size! Note that can be anytime.
Next let's turn to some pumpers! The three-cost Selesnya uncommon on a 2/3 vigilance body and then is a Lord for them too. Then the similar costing one in White and on an enchantment is next. It pumps them and makes a 1/1 Ally too. Then the four-drop enchantment will give them on our turn lifelink and double strike too.
Next up are a trio of legendary dorks in our colors that also give us the unfair experince counter as things do, they are Allies, and then they are also Masters in their elements. In alpha order, Aang, Airbending Master is a five-drop 4/4 that ETBs and then airbends a dork. Then as our stuff leaves play we notch up that counter! Note that's not "dies" but just leaves play. Then we'll make 1/1 Allies in our upkeep equal to that total counter count.
Then Katara, Waterbending Master is next with a 1/3 size! We'll get them as we cast stuff in opposing turns, and then when she swings we can draw for each counter we have, but then also discard too. Nice looting. Then Toph, Earthbending Master has a 2/4 size and landfalls for an experience counter. Then when we swing we again get a trigger for those counters count, this time by earthbending that counter's count too.
Next up are these fun Green Allies with triggers as others arrive for stuff. The two-drop just printed uncommon 1/1 size will Earthbend 1! But not it. Then the older five-drop 2/2 will make a 2/2 Wolf on arrival and then toss a +1/+1 counter here too! That's for him too.
Answers
And now? Answers! I started with Heroic Intervention and three counters. Then pinpoint removal was next. The three-cost Affinity one will make two of our dorks shoot an opposing one for their damage. Then that Bear Ally common arrives and then sacs for one to Naturalize! Then that four-cost instant will counter four things or abilities and then untap four of our dorks or rocks too! It's named after Katara, so it has to be here too!
And next up is ETB removal on Ally bodies. Tajuru Archer has each Ally shoot a flyer with your Ally count and here that should be very very fast too to clear them out! Once it resolves, other flyers aren't getting played until it's answered. Then that three-drop White 1/1 flyer Momo, Rambunctious Rascal arrives and pings a tapped dork for four too, I love that with the previous flashing enabler above.
The flashing dork Appa, Steadfast Guardian can arrive with a 3/4 size and flying to for a surprise punch outta nowhere to kill and then can airbend any number of nonland thangs from foes to ours! That's also good when we need to keep our team safe too. Or just all of the ETB triggers too. You can also make a free 1/1 Ally token as we cast stuff from exile too, so that's a must play here too. Then Avatar's Wrath will also airbend all dorks this time, save for one. I'm sure we know which one too!
Card Draw
And now? Who wants to draw those cards!?!?!? That five-drop 1/3 dork will tap for a card for each Ally! Nasty. Then that four-cost sorcery will draw once for the Ally count too!
Now this trio triggers when we swing or combat damage too! That four-drop 1/4 flyer Teo, Spirited Glider triggers when any flyer attacks not him, but just once per combat. This is a Loot and then you can grow a dork in size with a counter too. Then that three-drop Azorius 2/4 vigilance legendary leader Sokka, Lateral Strategist does the card draw when it and another swing. Then the five-cost uncommon Green enchantment Invasion Tactics grows our team on arrival and then turns their combat damage to card draw, but again, just once per.
And now let's finish with this three-set. The White Bear has an ETB for each Ally to gain a life and then the 2nd time to draw each turn. Then the uncommon three-drop with our leader's name has a 2/3 size and then waterbends six to draw. When she's tapped EOT you can grow her with a counter too! Then that enchantment will draw when an Ally arrives or attacks! Here with the tokens that's bonkers good!
