Three Ways to Play Yummy

Reddit

We're rounding out our overview of the three Justice Hunters archetypes with the new dessert archetype, Yummy. This delicious looking trio of cats are not the first dessert archetype in Yu-Gi-Oh! and certainly not the first food theme. But it is one with a Yummy Surprise in store for anyone who dares challenge these tasty kittens. Once they get their custom crane machine, Yummy Snatchy, set up, they become extremely difficult to pin down leaving opponents with nothing to do but succumb to the sweet taste of defeat.

Yummy is a Synchro-based combo strategy that revolves around the four main deck monsters, Cupsy Yummy, Cooky Yummy, Lollipo Yummy, and now Marshmao Yummy. Each of the original 3 monsters have a Level 2 Synchro counterpart in Cupsy Yummy Way, Cooky Yummy Way, and Lollipo Yummy Way. Marshmao Yummy is your free extender. Finally, there's the Link-1 playmaker of the deck, Yummy Snatchy.

Yummy excels at playing through hand traps and disrupting your opponent on their turn. It's enabled by one-card starters that allow you to consistently set up a formidable board. Yummy Snatchy's quick effect allows you to react to any action your opponent makes and bring out the right Yummy for the job in response. When it comes time to fight, the Yummy monsters are empowered by their field spells Yummyusment Mignon, which gives 500 ATK for each LIGHT beast monster on the field. Their other field card Yummyusment Acroquey and quick-play Spell Yummy Surprise can help deal with problematic cards your opponent throws at you. So, what are some of the ways you can play Yummy?

Hand Trap Yummy

Yummy's relatively small engine count allows you a lot of options when deck-building. Any Yummy monster can lead to virtually the same end board, so it leaves a lot of deck slots for tech cards and other non-engine cards. Cards like Obedience Schooled and Sky Striker Mecha - Hornet Drones add to the consistency of the deck. Obedience Schooled allows you to summon 3 Level 2 or lower Beast effect monsters with different names from your deck if you control no monsters, but their effects are negated. You can bring out all 3 Yummy names to Link and Synchro Summon from there, giving you a ton of resources in the process. Sky Striker Mecha - Hornet Drones can bridge into Yummy through the Sky Striker Ace - Kagari, which can add back the hornet drones used for its Link Summon and play it again. The newly summoned Hornet Drones token and the Link-1 Kagari can be used for a "Synchro" summon into Cupsy Yummy Way.

Besides any matchup specific non-engine cards, the remaining deck slots can be dedicated to hand traps. Effect Veiler, Infinite Impermanence, and Songs of the Dominators can be used to stop monster effects. Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Dominus Purge can stop your opponent from adding cards from the deck to their hand. Lastly, Nibiru, the Primal Being and the Mulcharmy cards such as Mulcharmy Fuwalos can punish opponents for going too deep into their combos. Since Yummy can play through 1 or 2 hand traps and can play a large count of hand traps itself, it's essentially betting that it will be able to out grind other decks in the long run if it comes to a hand trap war. It's a solid strategy in the current state of the game as we see more and more hand traps get printed.

Board Breaker Yummy

Playing board breakers can be a good option for less experienced Yummy players or for those who may not be familiar with many of the interactions you see in modern Yu-Gi-Oh! Board breakers are most effective going second when your opponent has used all of their resources with no way of recycling them back. Long time staple cards like Raigeki and Harpie's Feather Duster can pave the way for an easy counterattack. Not to mention you can bait out problematic cards such as Solemn Judgment or Vanquish Soul Snow Devil. Forbidden Droplet is a good way to dodge your opponent's attempts at targeting your starter while also negating a card(s) of theirs in the process. Playing only board breakers in a Yummy deck comes with the benefit of playing into K9-17 Izuna less often, which needs a card to activate from the hand or GY to use its Special Summon quick effect. If your opponent uses a monster effect on your turn, Triple Tactics Thrust can fetch you a card like Obedience Schooled to give you massive value. You may just find pleasure in dismantling an opponent's field with strong Spells and Traps to back up your cute Yummy monsters.

Yummy Your Way

A third way to play Yummy is to mix both hand traps and board breakers. A lower hand trap count may lend itself to using specialized cards like Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit or Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. On the other hand, use of board breakers that are good turn one and turn two like Infinite Impermanence and Forbidden Droplet can work. Utilizing the side deck becomes more important here as you may need to alter your strategy depending on the matchup. No matter which version you go with, the choice is yours. Deck-building freedom is one of the great things about Yu-Gi-Oh! But most importantly, just have fun.
