Weekly Sale Commander - Valentine's Day!

Reddit

Hi folks! Welcome to the Weekly Sale Column! This column will show you some cards on sale that might spice up your lists or inspire something completely new. These lists will usually be Commander lists in Bracket 3, you'll be able to play these in any Bracket 3 (or higher) pods.

If you want to play in lower pods, just swap out the Game Changers for other choices; if you want to compete with Bracket 4 and 5 pods, add more along with some other competitive combos.

Keep in mind that the "game changers" in your deck aren't the only thing that moves you up and down a bracket. Your intent with your deck; inclusions of other interactions, engines, and combos; and overall playgroup should all be factors in your bracket!

Remember that the weekly sale ends on Sunday night at 11:59 PM EST, so you have until then to get your cards ordered.

Happy Valentine's Week! For the Valentine's Sale, we've got a whole host of cards all in Surge Foil! Surge Foil is especially prominent in sets such as Warhammer 40k Commander, Fallout, Final Fantasy, Doctor Who, and The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth. Leading our charge is the master storyteller, Tom Bombadil himself! These sets have many great stories in them depicted on Saga cards, and Tom Bombadil thrives in a list full of Sagas! Let's get into it!

Sagas!

Summon: Knights of Round
Heaven Sent
The First Iroan Games

Tom Bombadil thrives off Saga cards, because when he finishes regaling one tale, he immediately starts the next one in your deck! We have a huge number of Sagas, courtesy of Final Fantasy, that double as creatures!

Summon: Fenrir is a ramp spell that can make a creature bigger and possibly draw a card! Summon: Kujata is a removal spell disguised as a burn spell. Summon: Primal Odin can catch someone off guard to the point where they will lose if they take the Zantetsuken ability to their life total. Summon: Bahamut and Summon: Knights of Round top off our curve as strong game-enders!

Next up, we have quite a few non-creature Sagas. Heaven Sent keeps us stockpiled on clues and will trigger Tom repeatedly throughout the game. Jugan Defends the Temple // Remnant of the Rising Star gives us a bit of ramp, The First Iroan Games can give us some early pressure to use (and later refill our hand), and The Sea Devils will make Islandwalking tokens, which might as well be unblockable in some matchups!

The Weatherseed Treaty is a similarly costed ramp spell to Summon: Fenrir whereas Binding the Old Gods will ramp us after it's destroyed something for us! Speaking of destroying, The Curse of Fenric will basically Beast Within three times for 4 mana, and cards like Elspeth Conquers Death and the Legend of Yangchen give us tons of removal through exile!

Sagas have so many cards that help remove or add lore counters to/from them, not to mention anything that can Proliferate!

Garnet, Princess of Alexandria
Unnatural Restoration
Terra, Magical Adept // Esper Terra

Garnet, Princess of Alexandria can remove lore counters and get bigger, which is helpful for reusing Chapter abilities. Goldberry, River-Daughter can move lore counters around, Scholar of New Horizons can remove a counter from a permanent you control to put a land into play or into your hand, and Time Spiral all-star, Clockspinning, can remove counters repeatedly as long as you're buying it back!

Cards like Ripples of Potential will proliferate your sagas and protect them through phasing, whereas Unnatural Restoration can get one back from your graveyard while also proliferating onto your Sagas in play!

We also have a few creatures that transform into Sagas, which will still trigger Tom Bombadil. Terra, Magical Adept // Esper Terra can find us an Enchantment with her milling ETB trigger, and her backside creates copies of other enchantments!

Jill, Shiva's Dominant // Shiva, Warden of Ice will be a great tempo play when we bounce an aggressive creature to our opponent's hand, and Joshua, Phoenix's Dominant // Phoenix, Warden of Fire will bring back creatures from our graveyard with a total mana value six or less! Six isn't too bad, considering that the majority of our utility creatures cost 3 or less, so you can usually get 2-3 creatures back with that ability.

Enchantress Too?

Jukai Naturalist
Sythis, Harvest's Hand
Hall of Heliod's Generosity

The best part about Sagas is that they are Enchantments! This means that we can play a traditional Enchantress shell too, which capitalizes on playing lots of Enchantments. Jukai Naturalist will discount our Enchantments and Sanctum Weaver will act as our Serra's Sanctum mana dork, letting us ramp for each Enchantment you control.

Side note, if you own a Serra's Sanctum, it is absolutely perfect in this list! It is a Game Changer, so keep that in mind for the GC count, but it fits so well here!

Sythis, Harvest's Hand and Eidolon of Blossoms will give us the card draw aspect of Enchantress-style decks, and cards like Idyllic Tutor and Search for Glory will help us tutor for the relevant Sagas for any given moment!

Finally, we've got the trifecta of Open the Vaults, Eerie Ultimatum, and Redress Fate for a mass-returning of our Enchantments. That will pair nicely with Hall of Heliod's Generosity, so that we can consistently recur our Sagas. Unfortunately, Sagas are not meant to stick around, so we need recursion here.

Change the Game!

For our Game Changers here, I wanted to be simple. Tom Bombadil's ability references cards from the top of our deck, so I've included 3 top-deck tutors as our Game Changers.

Enlightened Tutor
Vampiric Tutor
Worldly Tutor

To start, Enlightened Tutor can find any Enchantment. Vampiric Tutor will find us any card, so that can help us find a land if we need it or even one of our mass-recursion cards like Redress Fate. Finally, we've got Worldly Tutor! This is nice for searching for any of our Creature Sagas like Summon: Bahamut or Summon: Primal Odin, but can also search out some of our other creatures that have good utility, like Terra, Magical Adept or Barbara Wright.

I mentioned Serra's Sanctum earlier. If you want to include it, I would cut Worldly Tutor as it's the weakest of the 3 tutors.

Here's the list! I hope you try it out! As always, if you have any suggestions, I'm mattynewns on most social platforms; feel free to reach out!
