Adam Jansen Wins Grand Prix Vancouver

Reddit

Grand Prix Vancouver was the third and final Grand Prix of the weekend leading up to Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch. With limited events taking place in Nagoya and Mexico City, the relatively new format got its chance to shine and shine it did.

As Vancouver wended its way to the elimination rounds there was one story at the forefront of the event. Hall of Famer Shuhei Nakamura needed one win to lock up his record-tying 28th Grand Prix Top 8. It was not to be - a loss in his win-and-in match means that Olivier Ruel stands alone, for now.

The Top 8 featured Pro Tour Theros Champion Jeremy Dezani and two-time Pro Tour Top 8 competitor Aeo Paquette. Dezani used his red-white deck to work his way into the finals where he met Adam Jansen. Jansen, no stranger to high play with a Pro Tour Top 8 in 1996 and a Top 16 at Pro Tour Khans of Tarkir was piloting a blue-red deck similar to the one Fabrizio Anteri used to win Grand Prix Mexico City. History repeated itself as Jansen surged to victory. Congratulations to Adam Jansen, your Grand Prix Vancover champion!
