Kevin Mackie Wins Grand Prix Dallas-Fort Worth

Reddit

Grand Prix Dallas-Fort Worth put Modern front and center. After weeks of Standard with Spell Queller, Smuggler's Copter, and Ishkanah, Grafwidow capturing headlines it was time to work with a wider card pool. Modern is a highly diverse format and with Team Unified Modern a format of this month's World Magic Cup it is quite possible that the results in Texas will shake things up.

What specifically? How about Skred Red coming out on top. In a Top 8 that featured three Infect decks and current World Champion Brian Braun-Duin on current boogeyman of the format Dredge it was Kevin Mackie on the red midrange deck that took home the trophy over Corey Burkhart on on Grixis Control. Skred Red has been around since Modern's inception and with the unique rules for Team Unified Modern (only one deck can contain non-basic lands of the same name) it could provide a deck that leaves the other two seats wide open.
