Matt Severa Wins Grand Prix Denver

Reddit

We may be entering the final stages of Kaladesh Standard but that does not mean innovation is at its end. Earlier today we saw Aetherworks Marvel win the day at Grand Prix Madrid and Grand Prix Denver was no different. The Legendary Artifact made its presence felt in the Mile High City as did the Johnny/Jenny favorite: Panharmonicon.

Magic is a heck of a game.

The Top 8 was stacked with talent with Madison stalwart and Grand Prix Champion Matt Severa in first with Mardu Vehicles. Pro Tour Shadows over Innistrad Champion Steve Rubin brought Temur Aetherworks to the table while former World Champion Seth Manfield piloted the Blue-White Panharmonicon deck. Pro Tour Kaladesh Top 8 Competitor Ben Hull made it back to the elimination rounds with a similar Red-White Aggro deck that carried him to his last Sunday finish. Absent from both Top 8s - Black-Green Delirium.

At the end of the day it was Rubin up against Severa. Matt Severa won Game 1 in an offensive showcase while the Pro Tour Champion was unable to muster a defense. Game 2 saw Rubin pounce on Severa's mulligan and mana flood to force a third game. Severa took a mulligan in the final game but was able to apply enough pressure with Toolcraft Exemplar and an Emblem from Gideon, Ally of Zendikar to secure another trophy for his collection.

Congratulations to Matt Severa, your Grand Prix Denver Champion!
