Recently I played Grand Prix New York to an 11-4 finish. While I was happy with my deck choice, I accidentally made my matchup against Grixis Control weaker. Grixis Control had been favorable, but once I cut Evolutionary Leap, it started to feel like I needed a fast draw to win, otherwise they would stabilize and easily answer all my threats. This week I present an updated list with an improved Grixis matchup so you, dear reader, can conquer thy enemies and smite thy foes. We had a rough set of games this week, but we had a nice spread of matchups. Hopefully I showed you a thing or two about approaching those matchups, my process for tuning decks and preparing for tournaments. Next week I will probably try to experiment with a leaner build. I don't think it will be as good as the current build, but I have a little time to experiment before my next Grand Prix. Experimentation is an important task to optimize your deck and you will get to see how I do it! I have a little more time to think about it before my next article, but when I say leaner, I am thinking something like the following:
