Careful What You Wish For

Reddit

It wasn't that long ago that Argothian Enchantress was a mainstay of formats like Extended and Legacy. These days, we rarely ever see Enchantresses in Legacy. Despite that, these cards are enormously popular and have dedicated players who are constantly adapting to maximize their success with the archetype. Let's take a look:

Argothian Enchantress
The biggest change for this style of deck is that it has been optimized to ensure that you can cast an Argothian Enchantress on the second turn of the game. The high density of Utopia Sprawl and Wild Growth effects combined with Argothian Enchantress, Enchantress's Presence, and even Green Sun's Zenith and Living Wish mean that your engine is enormously redundant to counterspells and interaction.

Another big difference is what you're actually trying to do with your Enchantress engine. Previous builds would try to lock opponents out with cards like Sterling Grove, Moat, and Leyline of Sanctity. These days, you can get by with Elephant Grass to buy you time while you set up your mana engine. Living Wish is the card that allows this deck the flexibility to compete in the current Legacy format. It enables you to find extra copies of Doomwake Giant to sweeper up creatures, but can also let you find a win condition like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn or Gaddock Teeg.

You gain a lot by using Living Wish as both a win condition and a toolbox. The cost is that there's less space in your sideboard for powerful hate enchantments like Rest in Peace and Leyline of Sanctity. However, there are costs to this plan. You have very few ways to actually end the game in your maindeck. Locking opponents out with Solitary Confinement is only as good as your ability to capitalize on it, and Doomwake Giant and Eidolon of Blossoms aren't exactly reliable ways to close the game out. If your opponents know this and save their interaction for your Living Wishes, it's not unreasonable that you could be left without ways to win the game.

If you've been looking for a way to make Enchantress happen in Legacy, this seems like a good place to start. The combination of Doomwake Giant and Elephant Grass is an incredible way to keep your opponents off your back, and the raw density of your enchantress engine should be strong enough to grind out games against even the most disruptive opponents.
