In Preparation of Pre-Release - A Call to Arms

Reddit

Fellow Planewalkers, we dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first Eldrazi invasion. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to vampire and merfolk alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Zendikar natives - born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage - and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those rights to which this world has always been committed, and to which we are committed today.

There is being created a world of masters and slaves in the image the Eldrazi. For, while Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is crushing beneath her tyranny the people of every race and language, she is herself being crushed beneath her own servitude and her domination mania. The Eldrazi breeders and spawn are the slaves of their Eldrazi masters, while the people of Akoum and Bala Ged have become in turn slaves of these slaves. Before this first realization of a mad dream, all of Zendikar might shudder. For us there is more to do than merely win the war. We shall win it, but we must also win a victory far greater than that of arms. In this world of masters and slaves, which those brutal demi-gods are seeking to forge, we must also save liberty and dignity for all races.

Even though large tracts of Zendikar and many old and famous settlements have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Eldrazi and all the odious apparatus of Eldrazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.  We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in Tazeem, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend Zendikar, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the Sejiri Steppe, we shall fight in the Halimar Depths, we shall fight in Guul Draz and in Ondu, we shall fight in Murasa.  We shall never surrender!

Yes, young men, Zendikar owes to you an undertaking which has merited the applause of the universe. You have conquered and you will conquer still, because you are prepared for the tactics that decide the fate of battles. You are not unworthy of the men who entered the Quest for Pure Flame, and who contended not in vain with the proud conquerors of Agadeem. To this wonderful page in our world's history another more glorious still will be added, and the slave shall show at last to his free brothers a sharpened sword forged from the links of his fetters.

I utter this word with deepest affection and from the very bottom of my heart. Today I am obliged to retire, but for a few days only. The hour of battle will find me with you again, by the side of the champions of Zendikar. Let those only return to their homes who are called by the imperative duties which they owe to their families, and those who by their glorious wounds have deserved the credit of their country. These, indeed, will serve Zendikar in their homes by their Worldly Counsel, by the very aspect of the scars which adorn their youthful brows. Apart from these, let all others remain to guard our Glorious Charge. We shall meet again before long to march together to the redemption of our brothers who are still slaves of the Eldrazi. We shall meet again before long to march to new triumphs.

But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate - we cannot consecrate - we cannot hallow - this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what I say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work, which they who fought here have thus far so nobly began. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us - that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain - that this world shall have a new birth of freedom.  Let Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre know that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty!

Three weeks from now, I will be sleeving my EDH decks.  Imagine where you will be, and it will be so.  Brothers...what we do in Magic the Gathering...echoes in eternity!

(Ed. Note: the preceding speech was heavily plagiarized from works by Kennedy, Lincoln,  Churchill, Maximus, Daladier, and Patton.  Unfortunately Zendikar is tragically short on true orators of skill and import.  Our bad.)
