Niv-Mizzet Reborn in Pioneer: Meme or Reality?

Reddit

What if I told you your memes didn't have to be dreams? That a five color deck playing a fun five color Mythic rare casual card was actually one of the best decks in Pioneer?

Would you believe me?

Niv-Mizzet Reborn

I'd hope so, because Niv-Mizzet Reborn has been making his mark on the Pioneer format in a big way. Surrounded by an amazing cast of interactive multicolored cards and a pair of hard to kill mana fixers, Niv-Mizzet Reborn is the ultimate trump card in any attrition based matchup, providing you with the biggest and baddest Mulldrifter ever printed. Usually good to draw you between two and five spells, Niv-Mizzet also sits at a very nice spot among threats being untouchable by Fatal Push or damage based removal. Unlike Modern, Pioneer is a fundamentally fair format, giving Niv-Mizzet plenty of room to breathe and do his thing.

Bring to Light

The real draw to building your deck around Niv-Mizzet and a bunch of odd multicolored cards is Bring to Light, making sure that you always have access to your engine while also giving you a toolbox when needed. This amount of flexibility allows the deck to be as reactive as it needs to be while furthering its proactive plan.

Bring it all together with some great gold cards and a mana base only a mother could love, and you've got Niv to Light.

Time Stamps:

Match 1 - 00:09:07

Match 2 - 00:42:09

Match 3 - 01:02:35

Match 4 - 01:22:47

Match 5 - 01:41:42

Coming one topdeck shy of a 5-0 is a great run for the deck, and we got to see a lot about why the engine is so powerful. It's very hard for any fair deck to keep up with the raw card advantage that Niv-Mizzet can provide, and Teferi, Time Raveler and friends help to bridge the gap and answer problems preemptively.

Kambal, Consul of Allocation
Enter the God-Eternals

There are certainly a few cards here and there we would change, but the most novel feature of this deck is how imperfect it is. Finding the absolute perfect mana base or mixture of spells is probably conceptually impossible, which also offers the deck infinite customizability. If there's a card you think is good, you can play it!
