The Villainous Leaders of Legends of the Force

Reddit

2025 Started off with a literal Jump to Lightspeed in Set 4 of Star Wars Unlimited, focusing on the Space arena and other Vehicles and introducing the Pilot mechanic which provides a new way for a players to buff up their vehicles. But that's early 2025 for Star Wars Unlimited. Now we are in the middle of the year and we've just been treated with our second set; Legends of the Force.

Legends of the Force is the fifth set in Star Wars Unlimited, with two hundred and sixty four cards (Not including Prestige, Showcase, and Hyperspace arts). Like all new sets of Star Wars Unlimited, Legends of the Force brings a whole new string of leaders that, befitting the name of this set, represent famous force wielders within the Star Wars universe. Let's go ahead and tap into the Dark side of the force and go over all of the Villainous Leader of Legends of the Force!

Vigilance Villainous Leaders

Kylo Ren - We're Not Done Yet

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Kylo Ren - We're Not Done Yet

Kylo Ren, while not a Sith, did hold multiple titles within the First Order, the most prestigious of which would be "Supreme Leader." He's one of the two vigilant villainous Leaders coming out of Legends of the Force. He has the leader ability "Action - Exhaust this leader: Discard a card from your hand. If you discarded an upgrade card this way, draw a card." Kylo Ren can be deployed to his leader unit side once you've acquired 7 resources. As a Leader unit, he is a 5-power/5-health unit with Sentinel and "When Deployed: Play any number of upgrades from your discard pile on this unit."

All those upgrades you discarded earlier to Kylo Ren's ability? Yeah, just throw those back onto your leader for free. As long as your opponent doesn't haver a beefy beater unit with Saboteur, you're free to buff the heck out of Kylo Ren and send it in for damage while they try to get rid of massive Leader Unit protecting your base. So, what upgrades are suitable for this leader?

Kylo Ren's Lightsaber, Craving Power, Sith Holocron and Corrupted Saber are all excellent upgrade inclusions!

These are just a few fine examples of upgrades from Legends of the Force, but I implore you to comb through the vast variety of upgrades from other sets!

Mother Talzin - Power through Magick

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Mother Tazlin - Power Through Magick

Mother Talzin, is a leading figure of the Nightsisters and is unaligned with forces such as the Resistance or the Republic. Even so, Mother Talzin is our second vigilant villainous leader from this set that has the ability "Action - Exhaust this leader ; Use the force: Give a unit -1/-1 for this phase."

Let's briefly discuss the mechanic "Use the force" before going into Mother Talzin's leader unit - "The force" is a unique mechanic to Legends of the Force where bases and cards may say "The force is with you" which grants you, the player, with a Force token. To utilize cards that say "Use the force" a player that is with the force must discard their "Force" token that they are in possession of.

Mother Talzin's Leader Unit can be deployed once five resources are achieved and is a 3 power 7 health with the following ability " On Attack: You may give a unit -1/-1 for the phase."

By itself, -1/-1 isn't a whole lot right? But tied with other negative power and health cards, Mother Talzin serves as an excellent control leader. But, what support does Mother Talzin have coming with her from Legends of the Force?

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Karis - We Don't Like StrangersImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Old Daka - Oldest and WisestImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Talzin's Assassin

Mother Talzin is a leader that relies on removing opponent's units with -1/-1 counters. These three Night units are excellent additions to any Mother Talzin deck. Karis is a 2-cost 2-power/4-health ground unit with "When defeated: You may use the force. If you do, give a unit -2/-2 for this phase." Karis can be played on your first turn at a cost of 2 resources while also serving as removal when she is removed from the board later in the game. Four health is also fairly beefy for a turn one unit. Talzin's Assassin is a 4-cost 4-power/4 health ground unit with "When played: You may use the force. If you do, give a unit -3/-3 for this phase." This definitely packs a bigger punch and has a "When Played" ability instead of "When defeated" which CERTAINLY makes a difference! It also takes down a bigger unit compared to Karis, though it doesn't enter the field as fast. Lastly, Old Daka is a unique ground unit that cost 5 resources and has 6 power and 6 toughness with the following ability "When Played: You may defeat a friendly NIGHT unit not named Old Daka. Then, you may play that unit from your discard pile for free." Old Daka works alongside Karis's ability to a T while also providing a large body AND returning a character such as Karis back to the field. Old Daka's ability also works well with aggression unique ground unit Asajj Ventress if you're looking to buff another force unit.

Aggression Villainous Leaders

Darth Maul - Sith Revealed

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Darth Maul - Sith Revealed

With Legends of the Force, like many Star Wars Unlimited sets, we were given two starter decks. One starter deck focuses on a heroic leader and the other a villainous leader. For Legends of the Force, we were given a not so subtle reminder of the events of The Phantom Menace in the form of a Darth Maul starter deck and a Qui-Gon Jin starter deck. This Darth Maul is our villainous representation within the Starter decks of Legends of the Force. Darth Maul has the leader ability of "Action [ Exhaust this leader, Use the force]: Deal 1 damage to a unit and 1 damage to a different unit."

This ability is not restricted to either your own units or your opponent's units which makes this ability versatile. One damage is one damage... right? Darth Maul can be deployed to his Leader Unit side once you reach 6 or more resources. Darth Maul's leader unit is a 5 power/6 health unit with "On Attack: Deal 1 damage to a unit and 1 damage to a different unit." So, same as the leader side but on a body. Everyone gets damage! This can also assist you when swinging Maul into an opposing unit on the ground if you really need to get that extra damage in to ensure the opposing unit is gone.

With Maul displaying some classic traits of a Leader that wants to play aggressively, we want a lot of units to draw. Some excellent ground units to add to Maul are Eighth Brother - Hunt Together, Saesee Tiin - Courageous Warrior, Shin Hati - Overeager Apprentice and Baylan Skoll - Enigmatic Master.

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Eighth Brother- Hunt TogetherImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Saesee Tiin - Courageous WarriorImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Shin Hati - Overeager ApprenticeImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Baylan Skoll - Enigmatic Master

You might've noticed, all of these units mentioned are Force units... Well, these units works pretty well together. Shin Hati is an early drop ground unit that cannot be target the same turn she hits the field thanks to her "Hidden" ability.

Hidden is a new ability introduced in Legends of the Force that states "This unit can't be attacked if it was played this phase" to ensure your unit stays safe of any immediate attacks that might've come its way.

Shin also enters with a Shield counter on her, so feel free to swing in for a minimum of 4 to your opponent's base, or remove an opponent's unit with a cost of 5 in their HP if you wanna utilize Maul's leader ability. Baylan Skoll helps use recur Shin Hati after she is removed form the field. And much like Shin Hati, Baylan also has the "Hidden" ability to ensure he is safe from any immediate attacks that could've come his way. He is also a 5 cost 5 power and 5 toughness ground unit... so, stacked in fives. Saesee Tiin, while a Jedi and a member of the Republic, synergizes well with Darth Maul. Saesee is a 5 cost Unique Ground unit with 4 power and 6 toughness and has the ability "When Played: if you have the initiative, deal 1 damage to each of up to 3 units." Your opponent has pesky 2-health units in your way? Let' just clear those out with Saesee and Maul real quick. Then there is the Eighth Brother. Eighth Brother is a 6-cost unique unit with 5 power and 7 toughness. Eighth Brother has Ambush, meaning he can attack an opposing unit the same turn he is played, and the ability "When you play another unit: You may use the Force. If you do, give a unit +2/+2 for this phase." Quick ambush for 5 and then the ability to buff one of your units? I see no reason not to utilize this ground unit.

Third Sister - Seething with Ambition

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Third Sister - Seething With Ambition

Third Sister - Seething with Ambition has the ability of "Actions; Exhaust this leader: Play a unit from your hand. It gains 'Hidden' for this phase." Now you can't play the chosen unit from hand for free; you still have to pay the cost of the unit from hand by exhausting the appropriate resources.

Third Sister brings a different form of aggression to us compared to Darth Maul. Where Darth Maul wanted to ping our opponent's units, Third Sister wants to ensure our Units can hit the field as soon as possible without the fear of an incoming attack. Third Sister flips to her Leader Unit side after you have achieved 5 or more resources with 5 power and 4 health with the "Hidden" ability attached to her leader unit and the ability "On Attack: The next unit you play this phase gains 'Hidden.'" Four Health is certainly dangerous on a Leader Unit. This leaves Third Sister open to being removed by cards such as Take Down or Open Fire which are common removal pieces within Star Wars Unlimited.

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card TakedownImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Open Fire

Leader stats aside, Third Sister still promotes a hit face and win, which this deck archetype normally requires a rather hefty amount of units to be present within the deck list. Let's go over what units would be useful for this leader.

Sith Legionnaire, Acolyte of the Beyond, HK-47 - Exclamation: Die, Meatbag!, and Aurra Sing - Patient and Deadly are all excellent inclusions for this deck that are also low in cost.

Command Villainous Leaders

Morgan Elsbeth - Following the Call

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Morgan Elsbeth - Following the Call

We'll start off our command list with Morgan Elsbeth. Morgan Elsbeth is a unique leader, and I don't mean by super type alone. She reminds me of the Heroic Leader Hunter from Shadows of the Galaxy and how he interacted with unique units that share the same name. However, Morgan Elsbeth's leader ability reads as follows "Action; Exhaust this leader: Choose a friend unit that attacked this phase. Play a unit from your hand that shares a Keyword with the chosen unit. It costs [1] less." Morgan Elsbeth allows us to try and expand our board by utilizing cards with the same keyword. You could be playing a ton of units with Sentential, Ambush, shielded, overwhelm - take your pick. But, suddenly, you are playing [Insert Keyword of your choice] tribal.

Morgan Elsbeth can be flipped to her Leader Unit side after you achieve 5 or more resources, and her Leader Unit has 3 power and 6 toughness and has the following ability "The next unit you play this phase costs 1 less if it shares a Keyword with a friendly unit." So, when we flip Morgan Elsbeth she no longer requires us to select a friendly unit that had attacked. Instead, we select a friendly unit and then you can play a unit from hand at a reduced cost that shares a keyword with it. Clearly the Leader Unit side for Morgan Elsbeth is more versatile than the leader without the restriction of only being able to select "a friend unit that has attacked."

Supreme Leader Snoke - In the Seat of Power

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Supreme Leader Snoke - In the Seat of Power

Supreme Leader Snoke - In the Seat of Power is our other command villainous leader out of Legends of the Force. Supreme Leader Snoke flips to his leader unit side after achieving 6 or more resources. He has the ability "Action [Exhaust 1 resource]: Give an Experience token to the unit with the most power among friendly villainous units." Instead of going a wider with your board state, like Morgan Elsbeth does, Supreme Leader Snoke wants to focus on the strength of the units on the board by buffing the biggest unit on your board with experience tokens.

On Supreme Leader Snoke's Leader Unit side, he is a 4 power and 7 hp leader unit with the following ability "On Attack: Give an Experience token to the unit with the most power among friendly villainous units." So ,it's the exact same as his leader's side just without costing you 1 resource to activate the ability. While he is restricted to villainous units to take full advantage of his ability, this ability still has a WIDE range of targets.

Pong Krell - It's Treason, Then, Darth Vader - Twilight of the Apprentice, Supremacy - Of Unimaginable Size, and Darth Malak - Covetous Apprentice are all excellent Beefy Bois to include in your Snoke Supreme Leader deck.

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Pong Krell - It's Treason, ThenImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Darth Vader - Twilight of the ApprenticeImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Supremacy - Of Unimaginable SizeImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Darth Malak - Covetous Apprentice

Pong and Darth Malak don't exactly have the largest power but Pong Krell having Grit and an ability that allows him to remove an opposing unit based on Pong's power makes him a valuable resource, and Malak with his 7 HP gives him a good chance at surviving the phase he is played to swing in with Overwhelm in the next phase. But in the worst case scenario for Malak, your opponent has to focus their damage onto him instead of your base. Darth Vader and Supremacy are both units that kinda speak for themselves within the realm of a Supreme Leader Snoke deck. Although, lets be honest, Supremacy being a 12-cost, 12 power and 12 hp capital ship is insane. We know of a leader from last set that loves this card... cough cough Admiral Piett cough cough.

Cunning Villainous Leaders

Grand Inquisitor - Stories Travel Quickly

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Grand Inquisitor - Stories Travel Quickly

We're nearing the end of our journey by going over the final remaining Aspect, Cunning. We'll start off with the fear inducing Grand Inquisitor who made his first appearance in the series Star Wars Rebels in October of 2014, but more recently he was portrayed in the live action Obi-Wan series (Where this showcase art comes from).

Grand Inquisitor - Stories Travel Quickly has a leader ability of "Action; Exhaust this leader, Use the Force: Attack with a friendly unit. The defender gets -2/-0 for this attack." This is a very flavorful effect for this leader. The Inquisitors were an elite squad of force users within the Empire whose main purpose was to hunt and vanquish any Jedi that might've survived the events of Order 66. Grand Inquisitor's ability to get in an attack in with a unit and then making the defending unit weaker is phenomenal flavor. Likewise, Grand Inquisitor's Leader Unit can be deployed after you have achieved 5 or more resources and is a 3 attack 5 health leader unit with the "Shielded" keyword and the ability "On Attack: The defenders gets -2/-0 for this attack."

His Leader Unit essentially does the exact same thing as his leader side; however he does not require you to use the force to activate this ability: You just need to swing with your leader. I wouldn't categorize this leader as an aggressive strategy, but he does run near that archetype. I believe Grand Inquisitor wants to focus on weakening opposing units while also swinging in for damage. Units with Raid would be best for this. But there are also plenty of "Inquisitor" type units coming out of this set as well, as well as some Inquisitor flavored events.

Barriss Offee - We Have Become Villains

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Barriss Offee - We Have Become Villains

Barris Offee is our final Cunning Villainous Leader for Legends of the Force and she brings some interesting abilities for us to explore. Barris Offee's leader side reads as "Action; Exhaust this leader, use the Force: Play an event from your hand. It costs [1] resource less."

Unlike the majority of the leaders we've seen today, Barriss Offee does not focus herself around Units. Barriss Offee has more of a focus on Events in your hand. The closest leader we've had to compare Barriss Offee too would be Asajj Ventress from Twilight of the Republic. But, even she interacted more with units than Barriss Offee does.

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Asajj Ventress - Unparalleled Adversary

Units are deck-dependent, as are all leaders, but in particular we want to bring out a specific kind of Unit with Barris Offee. We've already touched on some of these units previously but I'd throw Second Sister - Seeking the Holocron, Darth Vader - Twilight of the Apprentice, and Chirrut Imwe - Blind, But Not Deaf as excellent inclusions for this deck.

Villainy Leaders

No, your eyes do not deceive you. Legends of the Force has brought to the table our first ever Villainy ONLY attribute leader in the form of Darth Revan. Darth Revan, much like Barris Offee, had a change of heart in their place in the world. How about we just take look at,

Darth Revan - Scourge of the Old Republic

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Darth Revan - Scourge of the Old Republic

Darth Revan has the leader ability "When a friendly unit attacks and defeats a unit: You may exhaust this leader. If you do, give an experience token to that friendly unit."He can flip to his leader unit side after you have achieved either 5 or more resources on the field. Revan's Leader Unit card has 3 power and 6 health with the keyword "Restore 1" and the ability "When a friendly unit attacks and defeats a unit: You may give an Experience token to that friendly unit." Okay, so the Leader unit side is the same as the Leader side. Revan has a ton of potential to him in the form of his unit side having an ability like Restore 1, being able to flip early at 5 resources, and promoting growth by removing other units with your own units. Ultimately, Revan does promote an aggressive strategy but in turn you are limited to only the color of your base and the villainous attribute. So... what do we throw into a leader like this?

Some automatic include units for this leader are Kylo Ren - I Know Your Story, Darth Tyranus - Servant of Sidious, and Darth Malak - Covetous Apprentice.

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Kylo Ren - I Know Your StoryImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Darth Tyranus - Servant of SidiousImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card Darth Malak - Covetous Apprentice

But those are just Villainous Units... Two out of the three of them having Overwhelm also helps us get some extra damage into your opponent's base while also achieving the goal of removing the opponent's units.

What about Villainous Units with other aspects tied to it though? Like majority of this Leader Review, we'll have to refer to some previously mentioned Units such as Sith Legionnaire, Pong Krell - It's Treason, Then, and HK-47 - Exclamation: Die, Meatbag!

Image of the Star Wars Unlimited card Pong Krell - It's Treason, ThenImage of the Star Wars Unlimited card HK-47 - Exclamation: Die, Meatbag!

A majority of these mentioned Units are fairly low to the ground and provide support in areas we want to exploit the actions we take with leader Darth Revan
