Artifacts in Commander have a special kind of freedom. Most of them are colorless, which means they slip into decks without caring about what color of mana you have. They also sit on the battlefield and influence the game in ways instants and sorceries cannot. In 2025, we saw artifacts that ramp, enable combos, strengthen combat decks, and reshape value engines.
Here are the artifacts from 2025 that earned a real look for your 99.
Bender's Waterskin
A three-mana rock that untaps during every opponent's untap step is exactly the kind of ramp Commander decks enjoy. You get four activations per rotation and perfect color fixing. Great for reactive decks or commanders who need mana open at all times.
Synergizes with:
- Kenrith, the Returned King - feeds his abilities nonstop by ensuring you have the right color at any time
- Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy - what's better than having access to one many of any color every turn? Well, 2 mana!
- Master Transmuter - Waterskin lets you always have that one blue pip and an artifact to bounce back.
- Seedborn Muse - Lets you untap a second time each turn but only useable to flash things in.
The Soul Stone
An indestructible mana rock with a serious payoff. Once you harness it, The Soul Stone becomes a steady reanimation loop that returns a creature every upkeep. That is an enormous boost for any deck aiming to grind through long games with graveyard shenanigans.
Synergizes with:
- Karador, Ghost Chieftain - repeats value creatures for free
- Meren of Clan Nel Toth - stacks recursion triggers for stronger loops
- Gray Merchant of Asphodel - a reliable and painful reanimation target
- Insidious Roots - nets you value every time a creature leaves your yard
The Endstone
Seven mana is steep, but it gives you a draw trigger on every land play and every spell you cast. Commander decks already want to do both, so this becomes a steady refill engine. The life reset each end step helps stabilize grindy matches.
Synergizes with:
- Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait - doubles down on land based draw
- Tatyova, Benthic Druid - ramps and draws without extra effort
- Omnath, Locus of Creation - turns extra land drops into value
- Azusa, Lost But Seeking - gives you more land drops (and I think this is the only card that lets you drop more than one)
Buster Sword
This equipment hits the sweet spot between cost, stats, and payoff. When the equipped creature connects, you draw a card and then cast a spell for free that matches or is below the damage dealt. That creates momentum quickly if left unchecked.
Synergizes with:
- Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale - equips cheaply and attacks often
- Wyleth, Soul of Steel - stacks draw triggers and snowballs fast
- Cloud, Midgar Mercenary - searches the Buster Sword up and doubles its triggers
- Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh and Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist - pairs free equips with an evasive carrier
Genji Glove
Double strike and extra combats have always been dangerous, and the Genji Glove delivers both. The equipped creature untaps after its first attack and swings again, making this a premium piece for Voltron and combat focused commanders.
Synergizes with:
- Aurelia, the Warleader - stacks additional combats into huge swings
- Isshin, Two Heavens as One - one of the best commanders to pair this with as he doubles all attack triggers
- Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima - guaranteed a trigger because of Jin's unblockability
- Forge Anew - cheats the equip cost and more!
Herd Heirloom
A creature focused mana rock that ramps early and later turns any creature with power 4 or more into a trampling card draw engine. Midrange creature piles get a clean way to push damage and refill their hand.
Synergizes with:
- Ghalta and Mavren - huge bodies that want trample
- Selvala, Heart of the Wilds - rewards big creatures and acceleration
- Eshki, Temur's Roar - plays well with her gameplan of being big creature-centric
Monument to Endurance
A discard payoff that gives you a different reward each time you discard. Over one rotation you can draw, make Treasure, and drain each opponent. Madness and rummage decks extract enormous value from this.
Synergizes with:
- Anje Falkenrath - turns her discard engine into multiple resources
- Kefka, Court Mage - IMO, the perfect commander for this artifact
- Liliana's Caress - domes everyone for 2 whenever you discard for a total of 5 with Monument to Endurance
- Oppression - not only does it feed you value, but it also taxes your opponents
2025 is a Treasure Trove for Artifacts
The 2025 artifact lineup offered powerful options across archetypes, giving players new ways to ramp, draw, push combat, and sustain long game plans.
Artifacts remain one of the most flexible tools. As permanents, they stay on the board and influence turns long after they come down. Some fix your colors. Some provide engines that synergize with your commander's gameplan seamlessly. Others fill gaps that certain colors naturally lack, which is why they often become glue pieces that keep a deck running smoothly. A good planeswalker never forgets to stock their arsenal with mystical trinkets for the next Commander night!
