Hi folks! Welcome to the Weekly Sale Column! This column will be aimed at showing you some cards on the weekly sale here at CoolStuffInc.com that could give you some new ideas for your lists. They will *usually* be Commander lists in Bracket 3, so you'll be able to play these in any Bracket 3 (or higher) pods. If you want to play in lower pods, just swap out the Game Changers for other choices and/or add more along with some other competitive combos if you want to compete with Bracket 4 and 5 pods! Remember that the weekly sale ends on Sunday night at 11:59 PM EST, so you have until then to get your cards ordered!
Today, we bring you a Commander list based on the Wild West sale for the week of Monday, July 7-Sunday, July 13, 2025. This week's list features my absolute FAVORITE thing to do in Magic: casting spells for free! It's also worth noting that list slots well into Bracket 2, as we have no game changers, so feel free to play it Bracket 2 or higher! I'll include some other possible choices to upgrade this near the end.
Kellan, the Kid
Our fearless leader in the wild west is none other than Kellan, the Kid! Kellan allows us to cast free spells, which anyone that has ever played with me knows that I love doing. Kellan's trigger is based off casting spells from anywhere besides our hand, so that can include our graveyard, exile, or even our opponent's deck. When Kellan triggers, we're rewarded with a free permanent spell that costs the same or less, or just a land into play. When Kellan Joins Up, he also plots a card that costs 3 or less, letting us start our Kellan triggers! Let's get into some of the other ways we're casting spells from other places:
Cascade and Discover!
Cascade is one of Magic's most popular mechanics. It's akin to the Wild Magic system of Dungeons and Dragons, where something random happens because you did a thing. Our deck includes lots of ways to Cascade because it casts the free spell from exile. We basically get to cast a free spell, and because that free spell was not in our hand, Kellan will allow us to cast another free spell. Free spells galore! Sakashima's Protege is a clone that can even copy what it cascaded into! Forceful Denial and Natural Reclamation act as some 2:1 removal. Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty will give our larger spells cascade as well, so our Apex Devastator will have cascade, cascade, cascade, cascade, cascade!
Discover also lets you cast free spells, with the added bonus of putting it in your hand if you don't want to cast it. For the purposes of casting spells, Discover 4 is the same thing as casting a cascade spell that costs 5, so we've also included quite a bit of Discover. Chimil, the Inner Sun doubles as spell protection and a Discover enabler, the Hidden lands give us a way to Discover on our lands that Kellan might put into play, and Contest of Claws doubles as removal!
Foretell... our victory!
Foretell, Kaldheim's flagship face-down mechanic, allows us to hide cards (in exile!) for 2 mana. Then, on later turns, we can cast them for their foretell costs. Because we're casting them from exile, then Kellan's requirement is satisfied, providing us with more free spells. We've included cards like Ultimate Magic: Holy and Saw it Coming for some protection, Ethereal Valkyrie and Sage of the Beyond for some value, and Alrund's Epiphany and The Foretold Soldier for a little more power.
Plot is similar to Foretell in that we pay a cost to put a card in exile, and then cast it later for a different cost, in this case free! (Have you figured out the theme yet? Free stuff in the west!) Cards like Make Your Own Luck and Fblthp, Lost on the Range let us plot anything, but we also have Outcaster Trailblazer and Railway Brawler for some generally good plot cards.
Stealing Spells!
It wouldn't be the wild west without a little theft! Our goal is to cast spells from places other than our hand, which includes our opponent's library and graveyard! Cards like Stolen Goods, Mind's Dilation, and Arcane Heist all let us cast our opponent's cards and satisfy Kellan's requirement, providing us with more free spells! Smirking Spelljacker doubles as both a counterspell and as a card that steals, it just works so well here.
Finishing Up
To round out our list, we want cards that synergize well with our cascade spells and cards that help trigger Kellan. Search for Tomorrow and Beanstalk Giant are better than usual green staples like Cultivate/Rampant Growth in this deck, and cards like Future Sight and Augur of Autumn let us get value from the top of our deck while still being good on their own. If you're looking to add any combos for higher level brackets, Teferi, Time Raveler combos with Knowledge Pool, which we're already playing because of it's ability to cast spells outside of our hand. You may have also noticed that we have zero game changers in this list! They're all good cards but they don't necessarily synergize well in this deck. If you wanted to add some, I'd focus more on permanent spells (which Kellan casts for free), like Rhystic Study, Smothering Tithe, and The One Ring. Remember that even one Game Changer automatically pulls you out of Bracket 2 and into 3 (not including any two card combos like Teferi and his Knowledge Pool), so keep that in mind as you make changes!
