We've had Avatar: The Last Airbender Limited for a while now. It's time to examine the best lower rarity cards in the set, and see what you should be drafting.

Invasion Submersible

Invasion Submersible is the best Man-o'-War we've seen in quite a while. The fact that it targets any nonland permanent is a huge boon, and being able to turn it into a creature when you need to or want to, means that the up-front cost can be as low as three. Yeah, being un-crewable is a bit of a downside, but the rate for every part of this card is reasonable, so getting to pay it instalments feels great. Even if you never turn it into a creature, three mana to bounce almost anything is a good deal. And that's very much the way to look at it. This is not an overcosted six-mana Man-o'-War, it's a Boomerang that eventually turns into a Nessian Courser.

Earth Kingdom Jailer

Oh, look: another creature that comes from a long line of successful ancestors. This is a whole percentage point behind its Blue counterpart, but that still leaves it as the second best non-rare in the set. It can't permanently remove tokens, like most of its predecessors, but you opponent's biggest threat is going to jail for at least a while. This type of effect is always good, and in TLA limited, it's even better than usual. Why? Because White wants to be aggressive, so getting a blocker out of the way while also providing another attacker fits the game plan perfectly. It doesn't matter if the creature could come back if the game is over before it can come back.

Aang, the Last Airbender

It's fitting that the main character of the show should make this list, right? It's also fitting that he should be so flexible, doing a little bit of everything. A 3/2 flier for four is nothing special in modern limited, but it's not awful. Airbending is excellent, re-buying your own "enters" triggers or removing a blocker. Finally, gaining lifelink from time-to-time is a tasty little cherry on top. No single thing Aang does is amazing, but all the little things combine very well together. He flies over for damage and in the mirror, that occasional lifelink is a gamechanger. Never bad, sometimes great; an obvious inclusion on this list.

Foggy Swamp Spirit Keeper

This one stands out like a sore thumb, doesn't it? Surrounded by aggressive mono-coloured cards, this dimir druid is holding down the fort nicely. A 2/4 lifelink body is a great way to start, if your plan is to survive to the late game. It can quickly turn the game around, too, as the unblockable spirits start to stack up. Every time you get to draw two on your opponents turn with this in play, it feels like you're really doing it. The floor being a 2/4 lifelink for 3 means you can't really go wrong with this card, though. Hell, this card almost single-handedly holds back the endless waves of aggressive White decks. The only reason it isn't higher on this list is that the other cards in the deck aren't so good.

Water Tribe Rallier

I didn't have this one pegged for anything special when I first saw the set, but it plays out exceptionally well. Having a relevant creature type really takes this from "decent filler" to "apparently an A- I guess." There isn't a lot more to say about it, really. It's a Bear that gets you recurring card advantage in White. Yeah, it will miss from time-to-time, but the cost is so low thanks to Waterbending, that you don't really mind the odd whiff. White is clearly the strongest colour in the set, and it's interesting to think about whether this card is so good because it's surrounded by other good White cards, or if White is good because it has cards like this. Obviously it's a bit of both, but there have been similar cards in previous sets that haven't performed as well as this.
