Grand Prix Miami has come and gone. 1,387 players arrived to do battle in Fate Reforged Standard and 152 had the honor of coming back for a second day. Those 152 became eight and those eight were reduced further until only two remained.

Daniel Cecchetti was a member of the United States' 2013 World Magic Cup team. Corey Baumeister is brother to former Player of the Year Brad Nelson. They squared off in the finals with extremely similar Green-White Devotion decks. These decks, centered around Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx aspire to create oodles of mana to then our into Master of the Unseen, Genesis Hydra, or Poulkranos, World Eater. The players shuffled up, the clock began to tick, and life totals began to go up.

At the end of over 100 minutes of play across two games, both seeing his life total climb north of 120, Daniel Cecchetti cemented his victory with his legendary hydra. Twice Poulkranos became monstrous enough to clear a path, and both times it resulted in victory for Cecchetti.
