Banned and Restricted Announcement Monday
This upcoming Monday is the hotly anticipated banned and restricted update for all formats in Magic. The main area that most players are hoping to see major changes to is Standard. With an upcoming RCQ season coming up alongside Standard Regional Championships from the season wrapping up now, players are expecting a major shakeup to make the format more enjoyable.
In addition to this, there is hope from many Legacy players that there will be some big changes to that format. Many expressed dissatisfaction with the last update of "no changes" and are looking to see some bans, with numerous cards and decks on the radar. All eyes are especially on this aspect due to the European Eternal Weekend event happening in just a few weeks, as players seek to prepare in advance of the event.
The final expected aspect of coverage with this update is the verdict on High Tide in the Pauper format. Will it become fully unbanned following its extended trial unban, or will it go back to the ban list? Players can expect to find out all the details then.
As per usual with these updates, the article is expected to go live around 8AM PST (or 11AM EST). I'll be providing a round-up article covering the update early next week, so be sure to look out for that. Additionally, a follow-up stream will take place with WeeklyMTG to discuss the update. This should go live on the official Magic Twitch page Tuesday at around 10AM PST (1PM EST)

With bans coming this Monday, players everywhere are eagerly anticipating one - or likely multiple - bans to the Izzet Cauldron deck. Vivi Ornitier is the obvious contender for many, or its counterpart in Agatha's Soul Cauldron. Many also hope to see Proft's Eidetic Memory whacked as well, since even without the Vivi-Cauldron package, the deck can still prove to be an overwhelming force in its own right.
This past weekend provided what is expected to be the deck's final swansong, with Izzet Cauldron absolutely dominating the field at Spotlight Series Liverpool. Unlike many of the recent high profile tournaments where it was the deck to beat, Izzet Cauldron ultimately came out on top in the hands of Alexey Paulot. Paulot is no stranger to Cauldron decks, having piloted one to a 9th place finish at Worlds 2023, and his work has clearly paid off with his victory here.
Congratulations Alexey, and good-bye Izzet Cauldron!
