How are the Mythics of the March of the Machine Bonus Sheet Ranked?

Reddit

With March of the Machine, players got to see the wide scope of Magic's multiverse in a single set. Naturally, it's difficult to contain and show off so much of what makes that multiverse awesome in a single set. Thankfully, the fresh technology of bonus sheets from the past few years made for an exciting idea: what if we got a bonus sheet full of iconic legends from throughout Magic's history? Thus, the Multiversal Legends subset was born!

There are 64 awesome cards in this release, but more importantly there are 15 mighty mythics to talk about. Every one of them rocks in one way or another and it's an exciting batch of cards to discuss. Let's get right into it and start ranking each and every one of them!

15. Urabrask the Hidden

Urabrask the Hidden

What's a good sign for this list is that Urabrask the Hidden being at the bottom of this list shows just how quality a set of cards are here. Make no mistake: Urabrask is the worst of the five original praetors by a lot and is certainly the worst mythic of this bonus sheet. Despite this, on many other lists it would easily rank quite a bit higher and is a solid card in its own right, even if it can't hold a candle to the rest of this list.

14. Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur

Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur

The original Jin-Gitaxias is a real sweet and aspirational design. He used to show up a fair amount in older Reanimator-style decks once upon a time. While some people still enjoy making use of him today, his utility has fallen quite a bit in the wake of better targets. Meanwhile, trying to hard cast is extremely difficult and unrealistic, making it a difficult card to rely on today.

13. Grimgrin, Corpse-Born

Grimgrin, Corpse-Born

For a long, long time, Grimgrin was the gold standard for zombie Commander decks. Nowadays, it's not nearly as exciting in the wake of cards like Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver being released. Still, it's a powerful card that at this point in time was hurting for a reprint. It just happened to be one of the less impactful cards comparatively against the greater batch of mythics.

12. Ezuri, Claw of Progress

Ezuri, Claw of Progress

Ezuri was a fairly popular casual card for Commander at the time and had once been fairly pricey. However, the combination of a recent judge foil and a printing in Double Masters 2022 had already brought its value down to low numbers, showing that the high price may have been more from low supply than actual demand. Here, we see that in action, with many players unexcited by this once cool legend.

11. Yarok, the Desecrated

Yarok, the Desecrated

Players absolutely love doubling triggers via Panharmonicon-style cards and Yarok is a great way to do so as a commander. This made it a highly in-demand card for the Commander format at the time, since it was sitting among EDHREC's top commanders list. Since then, its popularity has waned a bit, but it was still an excellent inclusion for this set.

10. Niv-Mizzet Reborn

Niv-Mizzet Reborn

By this point, Niv-Mizzet Reborn wasn't a terribly expensive card and it wasn't great in Limited either. However, this was a time where Pioneer was still coming into its own as a competitive format and Niv to Light was a pretty popular deck. As such, more copies entering circulation was very welcome and made it even easier to be able to play such a hit deck.

9. Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon

Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon

For a bit, Skittles was an extremely expensive card that players had difficulty acquiring. Then with the release of Double Masters, it became far more readily available. This really dampened the impact of a reprint like this, but nevertheless it remained an exciting one. Even if you didn't want it for Commander, it still ensured you were in an excellent position should you cast the card in a game of Limited.

8. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite

In the many years since her first printing in New Phyrexia, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite has remained a mainstay of the game. However, her presence has markedly dwindled as time has gone on. Better options have made other cards more useful in competitive settings and Commander players often opt to exploring other fun options without being so oppressive. Speaking of, I'm also knocking this particular printing down a couple pegs because it was just so backbreaking to try dealing with in Limited where she frequently locked players out of games.

7. Kenrith, the Returned King

Kenrith, the Returned King

Kenrith became a bit of a surprise hit as the buy-a-box promo for Throne of Eldraine. He ended up being not only a casual all-star but even a competitive powerhouse in the right kind of deck. With time, he's become one of the most popular commanders ever and still sees infrequent play thanks to formats like Pioneer. As such, more copies into circulation is always a good thing, particularly since the original version was primarily released as a foil-only copy.

6. Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger

Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger

If there's one card in this set that players love to hate, it's Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger. The mighty Green praetor is a diabolical force that elevates salt levels to maximum in any game of Commander where he makes an appearance. Put him in the command zone and get ready to watch your table turn on you fast. Love him or hate him, though, Vorinclex remains an immensely popular card and was a very welcome reprint here.

5. Aurelia, the Warleader

Aurelia has remained a top card for Commander decks everywhere running Boros colors and that remained true here as well. Not only is she fantastic (and fantastically popular) in the command zone, but she works wonders in the 99 as well. This has made her continuously in-demand and very expensive, making her a great reprint here. It doesn't hurt that she was a house in Limited either.

4. Sheoldred, Whispering One

Sheoldred, Whispering One

When New Phyrexia first came out, I quickly fell in love with Sheoldred, Whispering One for how much nonsense she could get up to in formats like Commander and Cube. Instead, she got outshone over other options at the time, in part due to how accessible the card was thanks to being a prerelease promo. How the times change, though, and Sheoldred has definitely become the most in-demand with the rise of Commander.

3. Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger

Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger

At this point in time, Kroxa can feel a little weird being this high on the list. It's no longer a card that sees much play and as such doesn't seem that spectacular. At the time, though, the one printing in Theros: Beyond Death made it quite expensive for a competitive staple, which didn't help that it had become a mainstay of the Pioneer format. This reprint helped provide a much greater amount of accessibility to players everywhere at a time when they seriously needed it, in addition to being a top-tier Limited card at the same time.

2. Atraxa, Praetors' Voice

Atraxa, Praetors' Voice

Truthfully, I originally had Kroxa higher thanks to the importance of that reprint for Constructed, but it's just too hard to deny the intense appeal of Atraxa. She's easily been one of the most beloved commanders ever made but suffered from accessibility issues due to the infamously lower supply of Commander 2016. Even with a reprint in Double Masters just a few years prior, there simply wasn't enough to go around and this allowed a legion of ravenous Commander players to finally take her for a spin in the command zone.

1. Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer

Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer

The number one slot easily goes to the pirate monkey himself: Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer. Releasing in Modern Horizons 2 about two years prior, the card became a staple of Modern play as well as Legacy until it was banned. This has led the card to carry a pretty hefty price tag, which was thankfully brought down to a far more modest price tag thanks to this reprint. Not only that, but it made for one hell of a potent threat in Limited, making it far and away the best mythic in this set.
