The Next B&R Date Changes and Standard Updates
Perhaps the biggest news of the week comes in the form of a surprise announcement made following Tuesday's Weekly MTG stream. At the end of the stream, host Blake noted there would be an article coming discussing the Standard format in a few minutes' time. Without fail, that article showed up and came with an updated discussion on both the state of Standard and the upcoming banned and restricted announcement.
The announcement, which you can read here, acknowledged the shaky state of Standard post-rotation following several bans back in June. Vivi Ornitier was noted specifically as a problem that is likely to be on the chopping block during the next announcement. Additionally, the next B&R announcement was stated to be bumped up two weeks ahead to November 10th, the day right after the current RCQ season ends. Several reasons were provided which are ultimately too long to list here. Check out the above link for all the details.
One final note worth mentioning, however, is that the update at that time will not just be for tackling Standard. Any other formats needing adjustments may see changes at that time as well.
Marvel's Spider-Man Secret Lairs Revealed
As is becoming a tradition with Universes Beyond sets, the release of Marvel's Spider-Man has a series of Secret Lairs coming with it as well! While we saw our first of these lairs during the debut stream showing off Daily Bugle-themed cards, the rest were revealed earlier this week. These include a variety of Spidey showcases with a particularly heavy emphasis on fan-favorite Venom across multiple lairs.
Check out the official announcement page for all the details and mark your calendars for when they go on sale September 22!

Last week on September 3rd, news reached the public via Reddit that UltraPro supplies for Marvel's Spider-Man were being cancelled. Many speculated why, but it didn't take too long for people to figure out the reason why. This past Wednesday, competing supply company Gamegenic revealed their own line of supplies for the set coming soon. A press release that followed soon after noted they would be available beginning at MagicCon Atlanta. Many had been speculating why UltraPro didn't have a booth at the event and it's suspected that this may be why.

Through the Omenpaths Revealed

Following last week's reveal of the Marvel's Spider-Man set, Wizards released the full visual spoiler for the set's digital versions in the Through the Omenpaths set. There's not much to say besides it featuring new depictions of the cards using in-universe characters and settings. Some, like Fleem, Goben's Creation from the in-universe version of Norman Osborn // Green Goblin became an instant hit within the Magic community. Various social media sites - particularly the /r/magictcg subreddit of Reddit - expressed love over the character to the degree that they took over the site completely.
You can find Fleem and all the other cards in this Through the Omenpaths version of the set in the official image gallery here.

In what has become a bit of a surprise dark horse candidate in the wake of Izzet Cauldron and Mono-Red's dominance, Simic Omniscience has become a great new option for Standard. Much of the deck riffs off of what players would get up to with the previous Azorius Omniscience deck, though it now requires you utilize Kona, Rescue Beastie to cheat your Omniscience into play. This makes the deck a bit more fragile than the prior iteration while still packing quite a punch. Give it a chance if you're looking for something sweet besides the dominant aggro decks of the day.
