White Cards in Conflux

Reddit

Let's talk about Conflux baby! Let's talk about YOU and me... Yes, that is the first track on the 'New' ManaNation Jamz CD of rockin and rollin music hits for Magic: The Gathering.

Actually, I wanted to give my overview of the new set Conflux. Normally, you'll get a review of each card within each color and how good it will be in Standard or Limited. This article will be no different.

What I'll try to do is rate (in my opinion of course) each card with a draft pick range as well as a rating of "must make" sealed deck inclusion.

Let's give it a roll...

  • Aerie Mystics - Definitely NOT a Constructed card. As a 3/3 flyer for 5cc he's just fine for a Mid to High draft pick, especially for Bant. Even though I'm sure you can pick up these guys late in a draft. Probably a MUST for sealed deck inclusion. It's ability is extremely annoying during the late game.
  • Asha's Favor - Garbage! Pass.
  • Aven Squire - You won't be seeing this guy in Constructed but you will see him providing air support with a low casting cost and a decent set of abilities such as Flying and Exalted. Draft this guy in the Mid range as you'll probably NOT see it come back around too often.
  • Aven Trailblazer - Trick and I mentioned the Domain ability several times during our recent shows and this guy is one of the top cards with the Domain ability. Not a Constructed card for the near future, but definitely a Sealed inclusion and probably a Mid to High draft placement.
  • Celestial Purge - Sideboard inclusion only as a Constructed card, but with Naya and Jund being the 2 best Shards in limited this might be easy Tech to include. Not really a high draft pick, look to see players including this card main deck in the limited format.
  • Court Homunculus - I've thought alot about this guy in Affinity decks for Extended and obviously Esper for the Block and future Standard decks, think Isamaru or Savannah Lion. As I mentioned, if you are drafting or have a strong Esper Sealed pull this guy is NOT a bad choice, much like playing Wild Nacatl in a Jund deck. I wouldn't say first pick.
  • Darklit Gargoyle - Trick and I felt that Conflux really helped Esper alot. Darklit Gargoyle is a 3/1 for 2 and flies on top of that. Read my opinion of Court Homunculus and move on ;)
  • Gleam of Resistance - Basic landcycling is something you'll see within Constructed Formats and is VERY good in limited. What are the abilities of this card?
  • Lapse of Certainty - I'm not a big fan of this card. It may find Constructed play for Millstone decks or something that uses the "setback" as benefit. Excommunicate has been used alot more recently in limited, but is certainly not a high pick in Draft. At 3cc, you probably can't fit this into your weenie deck, but might include it into your sideboard.
  • Mark of Asylum - Answer to Firespout, this card is HUGE for the decks that run creatures. In limited however, not a high pick or option for maindeck inclusion.
  • Martial Coup - Bomb... Nuff Said... As for Constructed, build something and hope it doesn't lose to 5cc.
  • Mirror-Sigil - See Martial Coup
  • Nacatl Hunt-Pride - Won't see any Constructed play but is a decent choice for Limited. Isn't a high draft pick as you will see them in the 11-15 spots for now, but will easily rise in power much like Bull Ceradon.
  • Paragon of the Amesha - is not going to see much Constructed play, but is easily a high 3+ pick in Draft and a decent inclusion at 2/2 for 3cc. HUGE if you achieve domain.
  • Path to Exile - is arguably THE hottest card in the set. Debated on whether or not it's a gift or a road to defeat, one thing is sure you will see it in all formats and kills everything that doesn't have Pro White or Shroud.
  • Rhox Meditant - Not for Constructed but an easy inclusion for Naya/Bant in Limited. NOT a high draft pick but can easily go in the last 2/3 of a draft.
  • Scepter of Dominance - The Icy Manipulator might have just seen it's days go the way of the DoDo as this First Pick card should see a spot in Tier 2 Constructed decks and MUST in limited white decks.
  • Sigil of the Empty Throne - Reminds me of Replenish but nowhere near as powerful. In Constructed, this is Tier 2 at the moment but you never know what will be on the horizon. In limited this is just Chum.
  • Valiant Guard - At this moment, he's poop in both limited and constructed.
  • Wall of Reverence - This creature is a SERIOUS speedbump. At 1/6 there's not alot that can kill it and it really helps against Bitterblossoms or Kithkin beatings. Is it better than Plumeveil for 5cc in Constructed?

This concludes my White overview and I can't wait to discuss this on the Forums. Check it out!
