At the time this is being written, fewer than half of the cards of Rise of the Eldrazi have been publicly released. Yet this much can be extrapolated from the information on hand, and one thing is certain: this will be the craziest, zaniest Limited environment ever. The spells are big, the enchantments are bigger, and the creatures are the biggest ever. Check out the following stats for a quick idea of how wild RoE will be:
In the pre-Eldrazi history of Magic only =[8]" target="_blank">66 creatures have been printed with 8 power or greater, and three of those were in Un-Sets so the real number is 63. With only 100 cards revealed, there are already nine creatures with 8 power or greater in RoE. That mean a full 14% of these gargantuans ever printed are represented in this set, and there are still three more Eldrazi to be spoiled. Also, of the aforementioned 8 power club, only five were non-rare. Because of the Eldrazi cycle (three mythic, three uncommon, and three common) there will be at least five more non-rares added to that list. All these giants do come at a steep price, of the nineteen creatures with a CMC of 10 or greater ever printed by WotC, only ten had hard-costs (meaning there was not alternative to paying full price like Convoke, or Domain). Rise of the Eldrazi adds at least three more to that list. To put it simply, as far as large creatures are concerned, there has never been a set like this.

So how does a planeswalker prepare for the inevitable onslaught of Eldrazi-heavy drafts and sealed matches? Good question. We aren't all gifted with Sorin Markov's ability to seal these demi-gods away for 10,000 years, so we'll have to improvise a little. We can start by following these simple tips:
Tip #1 - Draft removal, and draft it hard! Within the confines of RoE, there is no such thing as too much spot removal. Chump blocking a creature with Annihilate is a losing proposition, unless you have enough permanents that it won't matter anyway. That would be a stretch, so arm yourself with anything that kills creatures and enchantments to steel yourselves against the coming storm. While RoE hasn't exactly been removal-heavy, there is one bonus tidbit to consider - Eldrazi are colorless and therefore susceptible to non-black creature killers like Corpsehatch. On the flip side of this coin, if you can score some protection for your Eldrazi then do it. After all, one of them is likely all you or your opponent needs, so long as they survive.
Tip #2 -Mythics are expensive, whether to Level up or just play. Many of the spells in RoE will run you seven+ mana. In addition to that factor, these spells will swing a game for whoever manages to play them first. Basically Limited Rise of the Eldrazi is a race to put out Ulamog or one of his fraternity. This is a race you want to win every time. Consistently casting ten-drops on turn seven or eight will equal wins just as consistently. Obviously that means drafting/playing green, although colored mana-ramp cards in RoE have thus far been few and far between, and using Eldrazi token creators. For those scoring at home, playing Black/Green in RoE will be even more lucrative than usual.
Tip #3 -Don't be too eager to draft bombs, as there will be plenty available later on. The cross-section of people who play both fantasy baseball and MTG is not a large one, however the 'Never pay for Saves' motto holds true as an analogy. With such a glut of monstrous spells, finding two or three game winners won't be a problem. Of course it won't be a problem for your opponents either, so make sure you stick to picking the best support spells and aggro creatures first, then take a bomb or two when those wells have run dry. Finally, keep in mind the Eldrazi are colorless, so don't worry too much about committing to a color before you draft your finishers, they'll fit in anything.

Hopefully we will be better prepared to handle what is sure to be the strangest Limited environment since Legions, and perhaps ever. Commit these three tips to memory and come April 17th instead of being stomped by giant tentacles, we will be doing the stomping. Of course always remember to have fun out there - in this brave new Eldrazi-ridden world where every turn may be our last.
