Hello happy Commander, multiplayer and other kitchen table fans! I hope your day is hitting you as awesomely as possible, and if not, then it will be by the close of the day! Today is the second day we are looking at top stuff from Aetherdrift for your kitchen table play! From Five Color to Type Four to Peasant and Pauper to Commander and Highlander, today we are counting down the good stuff!
Last week was my first Top Ten here (https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/abesargent-02142025-top-ten-cards-from-aetherdrift)!
Honorable Mention #1. (#16. Overall) - Mendicant Core, Guidelight
This two-drop Azorius legendary artifact creature 3 toughness and power equal to your artifact count is first! Nasty player kill potential in 20 life or Commander Damage in that format too. It's got start your engines too and then you can max speed copy your artifacts if you spend a mana, and there's no once/turn break there. That's nasty in casual town with the copies growing its power.
#15. Lumbering Worldwagon
This three-drop vee with crew 4 and 4 toughness and win con power of your land count is next! When it ETBs or attacks like a Titan you'll ramp a basic tapped to grow it's size and do all of that good stuff. Love this thing way much with all of the mana ramping card advantage value and good stuff! Don't sleep on this's power to both ramp and win.
#14. Full Throttle
This six mana sorcery from red is next! You'll untap your team, and then get not one but...two...Relentless Assaults for just two more mana. Love that loads in Aggro, Voltron, Equipment Commander damage kills and tokens and more. Go ahead and pull that Assault for this!
#13. Mu Yanling, Wind Rider
This four-mana legendary mono Blue mythic lady is next! She gives your Vees flying and then when she ETBS make a 3/2 crew 1 vee token you can crew with her 2/4 size! Then when flying creatures you control smash face draw a card, but just one per combat not one per damage dealt, barring first/double strike. She's great at going high and drawing, and her flying card draw will work in any flyers matter or in the 99 with a flying Commander too. Love her much! I will be publishing a Commander brew around her next Tuesday, check it out!
#12. Loot, the Pathfinder
This five cost three color legendary boon leader with a 2/4 body is next! It rocks double strike to double damage and then haste to swing now and smash for 4 and then vigilance to do so while holding back to block or tap for it's three boon abilities. The boons are a cycle of common (one was shifted to rare after playtesting) of one mana instants from the first set that gave you three of something, like Giant Growth or Healing Salve. The best three, in order were Ancestral Recall, Dark Ritual and Lightning Bolt. And this is all three of those combined into one tap the only issue is that it's an exhaust so one of. It's pretty strong though with blinking or coming back as a Commander!
#11. Count on Luck
This three-mana Red enchantment will exile remove a card and you can cast it this turn without spending any mana so you can use it all for it, baby! It's a little harder to cast hence it being here, but free card flow is free card flow like Phyrexian Arena and friends. Love this much!
#10. Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied
This five-drop 6/6 Simic God is next! She has reach, trample and indestructible and can engage in combat with an even number of counters. In your first main phase toss a +1/+1 counter here and then draw two if odd. She's fun and bizarre too! From growing to card draw to trample innately this leader's got it on!
#9. Defend the Rider
This began as the final on last week's Top Ten but there was too many great stuff to keep it. This one mana instant gives a permanent indestructible and hexproof that turn! Note...not creatures, but anything! Or you can make token to chump block and keep you alive or pilot a Vee or ride a Mount too!
#8. Unstoppable Plan
This three-drop splashable enchantment is nasty! Your nonlands untap once for free on your EOT - just yours but you reuse tap rocks, mana dorks or The One Ring or untap your dorks for blocking a bunch of stuff coming your way! I love this in any deck deep with permanents. Crewing and saddling will untap them too. You can untap them, but this can feel a bit...good stuff you know? It just so strong everywhere that some might want to avoid to play other stuff.
#7. Hour of Victory
From one three mana mono- enchantment to the other is next! It starts your engines, and then makes a 2/2 dork of the Zombie persuasion to attack and increase that speed. Max speed? Sac this for two mana at sorcery speed to Demonic Tutor. This is great in a few shells, from Zombie to Aggro to enchantments and a recursive three-drop enchantment tutor? Nasty good from Sun Titan to Skull of Orm. You'll keep max speed once achieved.
#6. Monument to Endurance
Our last one before our Top Five is this three-drop artifact rare colorless with three discard abilities. You can discard to draw, make a Treasure or have each foe lose three life. Each once per turn, but in multiplayer or Commander that could easily be once each turn. The best is the card draw for things like Big Score to draw three or Looter tapping. Love it much! In a cycling set this is nasty good.
#5. Waxen Shapethief
This flashing shapeshifter for four mana can Clone a creature you control only. Also, an artifact too, and you cycle it as well for two mana. Also did you notice it's only your stuff , so half as useful as a copy effect normally, but adding in artifact and flash makes up for that. Love it much here! You probably will too. Enjoy this fun little Clone variant! From copying your Commander with a Mirror Gallery out to copying a mana rock for mana to copying an ETB like Ravenous Chupacabra or a card draw powerhouse like Consecrated Sphinx or The One Ring. Also, note that you can flash out a blocker copy and kill an attacker. Nasty times will begin...now!
#4. The Speed Demon
This five-drop mono-Black legendary Demon with an on-curve 5/5 body with two evasions in trample and flying. He's got start your engines and then in your end step you draw and lose life equal to your max speed, drop him and draw that turn, no giving people a round of turns to answer until your upkeep. Love that body with the double evasion too!! 40 life Commander loves him as a leader or in the 99 card drawing with the best of things. He's a little less good in 20 life formats since he'll be a bigger hit to the face. Top Three Time!
#3. Guardian Sunmare
This five cost White color 5/5 Mount is next! It's got ward 2 to protect a bit and then saddle four. Then when it attacks while saddled? Toss a nonland permanent with value three or less onto the board directly from your library...nasty! We all know how broken free stuff is...and you can get Hour of Victory above! You will want to mount this over and over for more and more free stuff! Sure, it's cheap what you get but that flexibility for any permanent not a land is nasty here. Rhystic Study? Skullclamp? Sol Ring? Birds of Paradise? I'm sure you can see why it's here, right? Right!!
#2. Redshift, Rocketeer Chief
This nasty two-drop Gruul legendary leader is next! On curve with a 2/3 body and vigilance, taps for mana equal to his power for activated abilities like his exhaust for 12 mana to self-Eureka. (Drop all permanents from your hand to the battlefield). He's brokenly good, one of my top two color Commanders in the set and I built around him here - https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/abesargent-02112025-building-redshift-rocketeer-chief-in-commander breaking him in half with that Voltron Aspect. And...I was nice I only tossed in one or two combos rather than all untapping stuff like Umbral Mantle et all. This Gobbo is broken as all get out.
#1. Riverchurn Monument
Our top card in my second list is here! It's a two-drop g artifact rare with a one mana tap to make tons or just you or your foes mill two like a Millstone for everyone you care about. Then you can tap it once for four mana to force everyone milling to mill their graveyard's size as a backup win con! You can use the first on everyone you too, and then the latter just for your foes to mill them out. Also, this is in the color of Academy Ruins! Mill an artifact you needed? Put it on your library and draw!
There we go! What did you think of my second take on the best from this set for casual play! Again, check out last Friday's article linked above. Enjoy your weekend and life!
