Hello and happiest of days to each of you folks! Today is my first Top Set from the just released Edge of Eternities! This is for all casual and kitchen table stuff like Commander, anything multiplayer, Five Color, Peasant and Pauper, Highlander, even Type Four. We are starting with new stuff only and then not the Commander decks that come with it, but just the base set! Ready???
Honorable Mention #1 (#21. Overall) - Mutinous Massacre
This fun Rakdos sorcery costs a harder to cast seven mana with the ability to choose odd or even and then sweep those dorks, and then you steal the others for the turn they untap with haste! This combines a better take on Void and Insurrection - two great cards a cleaner and a killer in one awesomely sexy card. Hence it being here!
#20. Starfield Vocalist
This fun 3/4 four-drop mono-Blue dork is next! When he is rocking the block on the battlefield, all of your triggers for stuff arriving are doubled! Note that's not just dorks or artifacts like the beloved Panharmonicon but even lands and more. Buy this, run this, love this!
#19. Ouroboroid
This unique game killer is next! It costs four for a smaller 1/3 body and then on combat will increase your stuff size with counters permanently equal to its power - that's a big hit fast. Soon your entire team will win that game. And if you've got a power increaser like Rancor or an Anthem you can start out faster. Just drop pre-combat, pump its power, and then trigger!
#18. Zero Point Ballad
This fun x cost mass removal spell in Black is next! It costs one to start, and then destroys all dorks with a toughness at or less than the X you spent. Great scalability there! Then you lose that much in life and then if you spent at least 6 you can get a free one to your battlefield from anyone and it doesn't have to be what you killed either. Great stuff. Love it!
#17. Devastating Onslaught
This amazing double X spell one red spell is also a great win-con with the ability on resolution to make X copies of your dorks or artifacts for the turn and then they also get haste for the swing or tapping for abilities. With Mana Rocks you can make more mana than this cost with things like Mana Vault or Gilded Lotus, and then with dorks you can get a bunch of ETB triggers to do stuff like Mulldrifter, Eternal Witness and Ravenous Chupacabra! Or you can win with stuff like flying Dragons and such. Love it in brews from combo to midrange to decks dense in either artifacts, dorks or both too looking for a win-con. Great thing!
#16. Beyond the Quiet
This five-mana sorcery in White is a rough exiling answer to all dorks and Spacecraft too. We already had this with Final Judgment for six and then the rough Farewell. This is cheaper but nicer in what it sweeps. Exiling cannot be brought back and then cannot be saved too, but this is a bit mean at times, which is why I prefer mass removal that's like Living Deaths which exile but then they head to the graveyard or -X/-X effects like Mutilate or mass sac stuff too. Therefore, I cannot deny this is nicer than Farewell but still I don't like it as your immediate removal thang. Run other stuff first.
#15. Tezzeret, Cruel Captain
This set's great planeswalker costs three colorless with a better than curve four loyalty. Then we can add one loyalty whenever an artifact arrives on your side - note that word is missing "nontoken" so it'll work on Treasures and all. Then you can spend 0 to untap your artifact or dork and then get more mana from a Birds of Paradise or Sol Ring. If it's both like Silver Myr it gets a counter for pumping. Then you can -3 him to tutor out a cheap artifact of 1 or less and shuffle. Then you can -7 him to get an emblem to toss three counters on an artifact if yours on your combat and then it's now a dork if not already. That's permanent. Love that artifact loving synergies with everything!
#14. Cerebral Download
This amazing card draw spell for an Ancestral Recall level of cards is nasty good! You surveil X first equal to your artifact count which is great even with a couple of Mana Rocks or one and The One Ring and then also brokenly awesome with an artifact themed brew and then draw three. Sure, it costs five, but that's a better Fact or Fiction since you won't be forced into two good or three bad ones and then you can dig first with the surveil too to see more cards prior and then fill up more in your graveyard if not. It's worth running all up and down the block!
#13. Frenzied Baloth
This on-curve Beast in Green two-drop rare is next and it' s a 3/2 size and then cannot be countered either! Nor can your other dorks or combat damage be prevented and then this has evasion in trample and you don't have to wait a turn to swing with haste. Get this fun new creature enabler all up and down the block!
#12. Exalted Sunborn
This fun five-drop mono-White mythic Angel with flying, lifelink and then doubles all of your tokens when she's on the battlefield. She also has an okay size at 4/5 and then works with everything like dorks in her color like Raise the Alarm to Treasures or Clues or the new Thopters!
#11. Sothera, the Supervoid
This four-drop better take than Commander and Multiplayer Classic Grave Pact is next for the same cost. The good thing for here is that this turns your deaths into foes stuff getting exiled, not sacked. Then you can sac this and then bring one exiled back with some counters if someone doesn't have any out there. Love this new entrant for Aristocrat and Sacrifice brews, but that exiling means you cannot reanimate them later with stuff like Rise from the Grave.
#10. Moonlit Meditation
We are now half way done and on our Top Ten Proper with this three-drop Aura in Blue. It can enchant your dorks or artifacts, and then when you would first make tokens out there on each turn? Make copies of this instead! That's nasty from Sol Rings to Solemn Simulacrums to Mulldrifters and Eternal Witnesses. Love this new and unique Aura tons and tons and it has heaps of potential to ride the train.
#9. Singularity Rupture
Hello and welcome to our highest charting mass removal spell - this six-mana sweeper in Dimir colors destroys all dorks and then you can have folks mill half of their library too - any number of them - so that's great for you in a self-mill brew or them in other ones. Or both at times. It's worth running and then I added it to my Five Color Kenrith Reanimation and Graveyard Manipulation deck this week here.
#8. Terminal Velocity
This fun six-mana sorcery speed red take on the epic Tooth and Nail is next - you drop one, it can be an artifact too with haste, and then EOT it dies and then shoots stuff for damage equal to its cost - very good stuff for the win-tough there! I also love this in Type Four as a first turn play with infinite mana but just one spell per turn or later to sweep and kill too.
#7. The Endstone
This amazingly fun seven-drop legendary artifact is next with a landfall or cast spell trigger to draw a card - no brakes there either please note - like on your turn or once/turn. Then at the beginning of your end step your life total halves each from your starting life total - so you'll pay. Squeeze all of your value from it and then have an exit clause like a sac dork.
#6. Archenemy's Charm
Next is this three-cost instant speed mono-Black rough to cast mana Charm, one of the best ever since the first is a better Hero's Downfall to answer a dork or planeswalker but here you exile so no answers there. Or you can Raise Dead one or two dorks from your graveyard to your hand. Or you can add two counters and lifelink to a dork as a combat trick.
#5. Space-Time Anomaly
This interesting take on mill in one hit is next! It costs four Azorius mana, and then a foe is milled your life total - great for Commander and then 20 life formats with 60 card decks. It's also strong in life gain brews where you often have a big life total looking for a way to end it. Then this also good in self-mill decks too with larger life gain stuff. I adore this new and unique mass-mill alternate win-con in life gain brews!
#4. Mm'menon, the Right Hand
This fun five-drop mono-Blue thang has flying and an okay size at 3/4 on a legendary dork of the Jellyfish persuasion. Then you can look at and then cast artifacts from the top card of your library and then tap them for Blue mana for it too, but not your hand! That's a worse Future Sight but since your artifacts tap for that mana casts it it's also a bit better. Always run this with Sensei's Divining Top and Scroll Rack. Love this Jellyfish much!
#3. Sami, Wildcat Captain
This brokenly nasty six-drop 4/4 double strike and vigilance Boros legendary leader is next. Then your spells have affinity for artifacts which is bonkers broken in any format from Standard to Modern to something called Commander where you can build around him. Please...do not do this! Don't build around him or add him. He's bonkers broken, you cannot play him fairly, resist the urge my friends, resist the urge!
#2. Icetill Explorer
This on the other hand? Play it everywhere you can, since this four-drop 2/4 undersized body counts as an Exploration where you can play another land and Crucible of Worlds from your graveyard combined on one card. Then this sexy little Insect has landfall to mill you a card too, awesome trio of beloved abilities - there is nothing here to skip past - embrace the good stuff here. But...also avoid Strip Mines here too. Don't be that player.
#1. Emergency Eject
Casual Magic is defined to my mind by having the best problem permanents. The above two, Mind's Eye and Rhystic Study to draw, and then things to win like Craterhoof Behemoth, all permanents. Therefore, the best answers to those various problems are always tops on my inclusion in brews and Top Lists too. After ramp I toss in answers. I prefer answers to anything rather like three-cost Beast Within than the cheaper Swords to Plowshares and I rarely run the STP. This three-cost will also destroy anything that ain't a land and then leave them a ramping Lander. Not bad at all, and I prefer this to the 3/3 dork of Beast Within and Generous Gift that can chump block or trade and swing. Get this fun little uncommon answer for all of your removal problems save lands and ramp them too. They won't mind that at all!
There we go! I hope you enjoyed this much all up and down the block! Next week we'll hit this set up again.
