Simic Clones with Jackal, Genius Geneticist

Reddit

Hello and happiest of days to each of you! I hope this article finds you as well as possible! Today, I wanted to write up a Simic Creatures Clone Copies under the newly printed one in Spider-Man. Here he is in all of his glory:

Jackal, Genius Geneticist

Alright, here we go! He's got a base 1/1 size with trample and on a two-drop. Then as you cast a creature spell equal to his power, you make a free non-legendary copy and then grow it with a counter. That makes this a bit of a Pod style brew as we mix in different casting costs. Unlike a normal mana-curve with more cheap stuff, here we'll want a few of most casting costs as well as just more creatures in total doing stuff, from card draw to removal to ramp. I know a lot of brews online with him are trying to make him a win-con by making those counters more-faster with things like Doubling Season, but that makes Cloning harder, which makes him unique, so we will not be doing that. Ready?

Ramp, Mana Dorks and Lands

Let's get started with mana-making synergies and these two two-drop Mana Dork Elf Druids. Gyre Sage has evolve and then taps for a Green for each counter on it, so it needs to grow over time but has great potential. Incubation Druid has an 0/2 size and then adapt 3 for five. Then you can tap it to make a mana equal to our lands and then if a counter then that's three, but that's the cap. I also tossed in STE and Ornithopther of Paradise at two mana.

Silverglade Elemental
Fertilid

Now let's turn to these two ramp dorks. The five-drop common 4/4 size can ETB and then ramp out a Forest and note it's untapped and then can be a nonbasic. Then the three-drop common arrives with a pair of counters and can pull one off with two mana to Rampant Growth. Love that getting more Counters or just over time.

Circle of Dreams Druid
Sutina, Speaker of the Tajuru

Now let's turn to these three-drop rampers or Mana Dorks. The rare hard to cast triple Green Elf Druid taps for one mana for each dork we control! It must be here! Then the three-drop legendary Elf Scout 2/2 has an ETB to ramp out a basic and then when she swings you can bounce a land to toss a counter on a dork which I'm sure we'll find quite valuable here!

The four-drop common 2/4 Ondu Giant can ramp a land tapped! Then the 3/2 colorless artifact dork Scampering Surveyor can ramp out a basic or a Cave! We don't have any here, sorry, but we do have Solemn as another ramp creature.

And now...lands! Karn's Bastion can tap with four to get our proliferate on! Then the Blue tapping Mistrise Village can arrive untapped if we've got a Forest. Then it taps with a Blue to make our next thang we cast uncounterable - amazing for our Commander to engines too. Alchemist's Refuge taps with Simic mana to make our stuff castable as flash! Great way to drop blockers or ETB stuff outta nowhere. Then Novijen, Heart of Progress also taps with two Simic mana to toss a counter on each of the things that entered this turn - including our foes.

I tossed in 15 ramp mana ramping dorks or tappers like Birds, three Mana Elves and tons more! Love to Clone them!

Clone Stuff

Doppelgang
Rite of Replication

Now let's start with the Cloning stuff, either as a backup or just when I cannot Clone what I need! The Simic triple-cost can make that many copies of anything from enchantments to lands to the dorks. The classic Blue four-cost sorcery with kicker can make one copy of anyone's thang, but five if it was kicked. From Mulldrifter to Solemn there are so many great options!

Altered Ego
Mockingbird

Now these two X-Spell Clones great here to trigger Jackal. The Simic four to start X cannot be countered! Then it arrives with that many counters. Then the rare Blue one to start has flying! Then it enters as a copy of what is equal to X, and then flying and is a Bird too.

Spark Double can copy any of our stuff and then arrives with a counter and then can be legendary too. Then Clever Impersonator can copy anything save lands from anyone. Great and that's your foe's stuff so if they are trying to abuse Rhystic Study or The One Ring you can just grab your own!

Synergies and Win-Cons

Kira, Great Glass-Spinner
Frenzied Baloth

And now...synergies! I adore the above since it'll turn targets of our sweet dorks into counters the first time, so folks will often double up into card disadvantage to take our dorks down, or just head elsewhere with their targeted removal. Then the two-drop Green Beast cannot be countered with a great size at 3/2 and trample and haste too. Then it can stop our other dorks from being countered too and our combat damage prevented. I adore this fun little body and its synergy here much since Blue cannot counter and people cannot target with the first out.

Leyline of Anticipation is next! The Blue enchantment can be free if it's in our opening hand. Then the colorless artifact Vedalken Orrery does it for all of your stuff too! Drop it all at instant speed! And while you're doing it, do it double with Parallel Lives and Adrix and Nev, Twincasters.

And now? Let's double those tokens! The four-cost enchantment does that all up and down the block! Then the four-drop Simic2/2 legendary dork with ward 2 to protect a bit can do it on legs too!

Forgotten Ancient
Impostor Syndrome

This duo is next! The four-drop rare Green dork with a 0/3 size was the first card created by the community and a powerhouse in multiplayer, since all casts by everyone toss a counter here! Then in our upkeep we can distribute them to any number - so from Fertlild to card draw tons of great stuff here. Then the just printed six-drop Blue enchantment will turn all of our nontoken combat damage into a nonlegendary token copy - it must be here!

Finale of Devastation
Primal Surge

Now these two Green sorcery speed win-cons! The X sorcery can drop one from your graveyard or library to the battlefield with that mana. And if you spent at least 10 here give them a huge size increase and haste too! Then the ten-cost sorcery in Green exiles and drops permanents from your library's top until you find a non-permanent - that's a fat old win-con!

Mirror Box turns off our legend rule in case our Clones ain't made from Jackal! Then they get pumped and then again for each non-token with their name. Walking Ballista arrives with X size and then you can toss more here for 4 mana anytime! Then pull them off to ping any target - great here with triggering Jackal and with the Ancient above. Then the eight-drop 5/5 hasting Craterhoof Behemoth can win with his ETB ability to pump our team equal to their number with trample too! Love it here!

Draining Whelk
Glen Elendra Archmage

Now creature-based answers! I tossed in most counter dorks like Mystic Snake. Then the six-drop above will add flying and then grow in size equal to the cost of what you countered. Here that's great since you can increase the size too. Then you can drop the four-drop flying 2/2 Faerie that sacs for one no tapping to Negate! Then it's got persist to come back once, but with +1/+1 counters from stuff?

The six-drop Kogla, the Titan Ape with a nice 7/6 size can ETB and fight as removal! Then when it swings you can Naturalize! Then the eight-cost trampling 6/6 Woodfall Primus can destroy any nondork on arrival and can pull the same persist tricks as the above.

Steelbane Hydra will let you pull one off for three to Naturalize as removal! Great here! Then the three-drop 2/3 Beast Trygon Predator has that combat damage to Naturalize too. Then the one-drop artifact Haywire Mite can be sacked with one to exile an opposing artifact or enchantment if they aren't a dork. All three different costs!

Card Draw

Beast Whisperer
Prime Speaker Zegana

Card draw! I could have tossed in Bident of Thassa stuff, but I leaned in card casts and ETB stuff here. The four-drop Elf Druid does it for casts and then I tossed in Soul of the Harvest when they arrive. Then the six-drop Simic dork above legendary with a 1/1 ETBs with counters equal to our highest power, then draw this's power too! That could easily refill our hand.

Thus, Hydroid Krasis with two to start Simic dork will draw and gain half X and then rocks both flying and trample with counters equal to X. It's very scalable with Jackal! Then the four-drop evolver Fathom Mage will draw when you toss a counter here, great over time too. I also tossed in the very strong here Terrasymbiosis!

Then I tossed in a bunch of ways to pull off counters to draw and manipulate Jackal. The Simic uncommon Bear Zameck Guildmage has two activated abilities for Simic - one to let your stuff arrive with another counter and the latter to pull one off for card draw. Then the two-drop Blue O'aka, Traveling Merchant can tap to pull it off any lands, and not just +1/+1 stuff here either. Then the three-drop Simic uncommon 3/3 Shapers of Nature can mana sink four to add one or three to pull one off for a card! I also tossed in Novijen Sages, and three of those are great with our two persist to keep them coming.

Gadwick, the Wizened

There is just one dork that exists that combines an X spell and dork ever, this legendary 3/3 that draws X and then taps opposing stuff as you cast Blue stuff. You can try him just as a mana sink for our ramping stuff, or to get the perfect Jackal Clone.

And now? My decklist!

Simic Clones with Jack | Commander | Abe Sargent

Card Display

There we go! I tossed in every feasible modal spell/land that's creature! I hope you enjoy this much! This feels a little midrange-y, just as a heads up. I built the brew yesterday, and then added or pulled like 11 cards like Primal Surge for Chord of Calling and Nesting Grounds. Enjoy this deep dork with tons of great options! I couldn't find space for Second Harvest.
