Elminster Teaches Aminatou To Use Second Sight in Commander

Reddit

Hello and happiest of days to each of you to all of you folks in all of the places! I just wrote up my Tier List for Commanders that are also Planeswalkers too. I was looking at Aminatou and Elminster and noting they both shared a color combo and then the same deck concept of building around the top of our library. Then I just wrote an article recently on the Case for Future Sight about the power of casting stuff from our library's top instead of our hand and that's great card advantage too. I had this idea about him taking her on as an Apprentice and then mentoring her to use her Second Sight seen in MTG as Future Sight.

Aminatou, the Fateshifter
Elminster

The three-drop Esper colored three loyalty can +1 to draw and then toss a card onto the top of the library which is great with fetches or Scroll Rack and Top or casting with Future Sights. Then her -1 will flicker anything. Then her Azorius mentor five-drop five loyalty will let all scries turn our next spell with a cost reduction. Then you can +2 him to Serum Visions and then -3 him as a win con to exile the top card of our library and make its mana cost in flyers! Nasty, I know. Especially with her +1.

Mana Stuff

Isolated Watchtower
Mortuary Mire

Now let's turn to this mana stuff land duo. The colorless one taps for it and then with 2 to scry and then draw if a basic land is our top thang! Then the Black tapping land ETBs tapped and then when it arrives you can reload a dork to our library's top for triggering stuff or just drawing. I also tossed in Academy Ruins and Hall for stuff here too.

Seer's Lantern taps for colorless and then with two mana for a scry 1. Then Mana Geode arrives with a scry 1 too which you can flicker with Aminatou if needed.

Study Hall taps for colorless and then with one to add one mana and then if it's used for our Commander you can scry equal to the casts. Then I tossed in a few saccing Mana Rocks like Commander's Sphere and then Mind Stone and Stonespeaker Crystal. The two-drop is pretty good and classic. Then the four-drop one taps for two and then also with two to exile all opposing graveyards and a card too. I also tossed in Bojuka Bog and tons of scry lands like the Temple Cycle.

Synergies and Win-Cons

Baneful Omen
Approach of the Second Sun

Now let's turn to this fun synergies and win-cons too. That seven-drop Black enchantment in our end step will let us shoot each foe for life loss equal to our top card's mana value - nasty good there. Then the splashable seven-cost sorcery there will gain us seven life and head seven down on our library and then when cast again will literally win the game. Strong here.

Draco
The Temporal Anchor

That sixteen-cost artifact dork with a 9/9 flying body is next. It costs as little as 10 here and then has two mana upkeep equal and reduced by our basic land count too. This is here for 16 1/1 flyers with Elminster or just a nasty Baleful and other stuff win-cons. Then the six-drop legendary artifact next will in our upkeep scry two, then when we tuck stuff with scry we can exile them and then in our turn cast them. Brillant here.

Now let's turn to win-con spells! Mnemonic Deluge will exile one spell from one graveyard - anyone's there. Then we'll get a trio of copies from it. That's just strong in all of the places. Then Aminatou's Augury costs one less and exiles our top eight stuff and then we can drop a land and then one each of each type we can cast for free from sorcery to dorks to enchantments. You can reduce these two-costs with Elminster.

Clone Legion
Elminster's Simulacrum

Now these mass token-making spells are next that also copies and then pricey to get them cost dropped are here. The nine-mana sorcery makes one Clone copy for each thing a player has. Then you can cast the six-cost instant for one copy of each foe's dork that really scales up and at instant speed can really play havoc with stuff or make blockers outta nowhere to keep our leader safe.

Next up are these Miracling fun time stuff. Temporal Mastery can just be two if miracle, or reduced by Elminster - but that's it here. Then Entreat the Angels is pretty pricey, sure! But with miracle? That's a very reasonable single X there too.

The three-drop Blue 3/2 Elvish Mariner has an attack trigger to scry. Then when we scry with anything we can tap nonlands equal to how many we scried which is great tempo over time! Then the four-drop enchantment Jace's Sanctum will drop our spell cost by one and then when we cast them, we can scry one too. Embrace these various synergies from tapping to reducing our costs.

I tossed in Metamorphosis Fanatic and Entreat the Dead, but I don't have too many dorks here, just as a heads up. The six-drop 4/4 with lifelink can be miracled for just two and then when it arrives, you'll bring back a dork from our graveyard but then with lifelink too! Then the triple Black to start sorcery and then XX one is next. But, again, with a feasible XBB to bring back one per mana spent in the X.

Keen Duelist
Parker Luck

Now let's turn to this card-flow win-con combo. That Bear Rare in Black in our upkeep will have us and another reveal our cards and then draw them. We'll ping them for our cost and then we take it equal to theirs. Nasty here. Then the three-drop enchantment can in our end step choose two players which don't have to be us. And then they each reveal, lose life to the other's cost, and then draw too.

The five-cost Esper legendary dork Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign with a 3/5 size, flying, vigilance and then menace too is first. When she swings you can reveal the top card and then cast it for free if odd or draw if not, and that's a may, so if you showed a three-cost Generous Gift you could draw it for later. Then the three-cost Azorius Augury Adept is next: when she deals combat damage to someone you can reveal and draw the top card after revealing it and then gain its cost in life!

Teferi, Hero of Dominaria
Liliana Vess

Next up are these two planeswalkers. Teferi can +1 to draw and then untap two lands EOT to leave up for answers. He's here to -3 and tuck any nonland three cards down. Liliana can +1 to have someone discard. Then she's here for that -2 to Tutor anything to our library's top. And you can do it twice with he starting loyalty!

Answers

Dissolve
Bane's Contingency
Access Denied

Answers start with counters. The three-cost one above will counter anything for three and then scry too. Then the uncommon also counters and if you countered something that targeted Aminatou we can scry two. Then this five-cost one above counters anything and then we can counter anything and then make its cost in 1/1 Thopters. Love it with our Planewalker Commander to keep her alive or just to go wide.

Vanishment
Void Rend

And now backup targeted removal with a smaller number there. You can cast the miracling one above for five-base, otherwise one to Time Ebb something that ain't a land. Then the three-cost Esper one can destroy any nonland and then cannot be countered too.

And now enter mass removal. Austere Command six, and then destroys two things of our choice from a laundry list of stuff. Then that miracling six-cost Terminus is also here. You can miracle it for one, and then everyone shuffles creatures to to their library's bottom - not as bad as exiling since they can tutor for them. But cannot be answered like exiling.

Card Draw

Sorin, Grim Nemesis
Fortune Teller's Talent
Twilight Prophet

And now let's turn to this card draw section to finish us and take us home. That great six-drop Orzhov colored planeswalker arrives with six loyalty and then +1s to reveal and draw our top card and then each foe eats damage equal to its cost. Then you can -X him to Lightning Helix something too. Then the one-drop Class arrives with you looking at the top card of our library to get ready for manipulation, and then with four mana after you've cast another dork you can Future Sight! Then another three to drop our costs. Then that four-cost flying 2/4 dork is next with an ascend. If we've got it, we can reveal the top card of that library in our upkeep to drain its mana value in stuff from foes.

The six-drop 5/6 flyer Eligeth, Crossroads Augur with partner turns all scry into card draw at that number. Then that three-drop 1/4 Matoya, Archon Elder can draw just one, but for surveil too. Then that two-drop enchantment Lost Isle Calling builds and when it has at least seven, you can spend six to exile and draw for each one and then Time Walk.

Jace, Unraveler of Secrets
Jace, Mirror Mage
Serum Sovereign

And now let's turn to this trio. The five-drop planeswalker with five loyalty is here to +1 and Opt. Then you can -2 him to Uncommon too to protect him a bit. Then the three-drop with kicker two version of him will make a copy. You can +1 him to scry two or 0 him to draw and then eat damage equal to that cost. Then that five-drop 4/4 Sphinx with flying can turn non-creature casts into a counter here, and then spend one mana to pull one off and Serum Visions.

There we go! You can also see up there Archfiend of Despair to increase life loss and shut down opposing life gain, and then both Omniscience to count as a big spell and then drop all stuff, One with the Multiverse to combine it with Future Sight, and then Liliana Vess to tutor to our top of our library. Enjoy the fun here!
