Arena Limited Championship Drama
Last weekend saw the second round of MTG Arena Limited Championship Qualifier events taking place. Each of these could qualify you for the Arena Limited Championship in 2027 which then offers qualifications for the paper Limited Championship.
It has now been officially confirmed by WOTC in the Pro Tour discord.
When I thought I qualified for Arena Limited Championship I think it was fair to assume it was a draft event at least in some way resembling Arena Championship. In reality I just qualified for a LCQ on Arena.

Then, as the dust settled from the event, it came to light that the Arena Limited Championship (to reiterate: the digital one) has no prizes besides the qualification to the paper event. This baffled, frustrated, and angered numerous players who couldn't believe that there would be no additional prizing for such a major event. As a result, word spread fast on social media in regards to this issue.

Soon after, Wizards officials relented and confirmed that a prizing structure was being worked on. No further details were provided, but it's safe to assume we'll hear more about it in the coming months as we get closer to the actual event.

Earlier this week, the Kickstarter for Season 5 of Tolarian Community College's Shuffle Up and Play series went live. The YouTube Magic gameplay series has become incredibly popular over the years and is funded largely through Kickstarters like these. The fundraisers cover all manner of things, including recording equipment, lighting, staff, and all the fee coverage for guests (flights, hotels, and food).
Within just a few hours, the Kickstarter broke well past its goal amount, having now reached roughly $400,000 of its original $150,000 goal. If you'd like to help support one of the coolest MTG content productions around, this is a great way to do so, with special coins and token packs to help commemorate it.
Decklist of the Week
Living End | Modern | MeninooNey, 2nd Place MTGO Modern Challenge
- Creatures (31)
- 1 Colossal Skyturtle
- 1 Oliphaunt
- 1 Striped Riverwinder
- 4 Curator of Mysteries
- 4 Endurance
- 4 Generous Ent
- 4 Shardless Agent
- 4 Street Wraith
- 4 Subtlety
- 4 Wistfulness
- Instants (10)
- 2 Sink into Stupor // Soporific Springs
- 4 Force of Negation
- 4 Violent Outburst
- Sorceries (4)
- 4 Living End
As part of the most recent Banned and Restricted announcement on May 18th, Violent Outburst was unbanned. The idea was to give Living End another time in the sun after the printing of Modern Horizons 3 and cards like Consign to Memory and Vexing Bauble entered the format. The deck has been making a fairly reasonable showing in the weeks since, with this most recent second place finish providing a great example of how.
The deck's core strategy is to cycle away plenty of Creature cards to fill up your graveyard with lots of juicy threats. Once you have enough cards in your graveyard, you can cast a copy of Violent Outburst or Shardless Agent. This Cascades into a copy of Living End, wiping out your opponent's board while filling yours. It's a powerful deck that's not unreasonable to contend with thanks to a variety of hate cards, making it a fun and enticing deck for the current Modern RCQ season.
