Hello and happiest of days to you! Today is my second in a three article Maddening trip! Last time I counted down my Top 5 Madness Commanders here and then this week are Madness support cards and enablers like Wild Mongrel good for modern era of multiplayer, Commander, Five Color and more and then next time is Madness cards proper. I've never built a Madness Commander brew for y'all expect to see that soon. I did run a Madness Five Color (the format) brew once I called "Madness 250."
Honorable Mention
Good Looters
First up are various good Looters that tap, draw and then discard that card after. Ideally on a good follow-up or on-curve size. This Dimir legendary one above will drain a life from your foes if you discard a spell - win-con and then sacs with two to cast one. Things like that are what I am talking about here.
Monument to Endurance
This amazing three-drop artifact colorless thang is next! It turns your discards into card draw, win cons with your foes losing a trio of life or you making a Treasure, once each turn but all three.
Surly Badgersaur
This is another discard trigger, this time any number of times, on a four-drop Hill Giant and then what you discard - Treasures from lands, counters from dorks and then fight spells from the other stuff.
Tortured Existence
This amazing discarder without a tap just a Black mana is next! You swap a creature from your hand with one in the graveyard! Obviously, this works only on dorks but that is nasty good in all of the places! If half of your non-lands are dorks? Typical and then good stuff when you do!
#5. Glint-Horn Buccaneer
This three-drop weirdly high toughness hasted 2/4 Red dork is next! When you discard you ping each foe - great as a win-con. Then when you attack with it you can invest two mana with it and then discard to draw as many times as you've got the mana and then in your second main phase too. That combines discard and trigger in one card! But it has to be back here since that cannot be done save when it's swinging.
#4. Anje Falkenrath
She's the best Commander for Madness so she's great here too! For three-mana you can drop her with haste and a 1/3 body, tap to discard and draw so rummage like the above card and then if it as madness you can untap her to keep it up! She's amazing in all of the places! But there is nothing added with that like the Glint-Horn one to ping folks or later scoring stuff too.
#3. Compulsion
Why was the Standard dominant Simic Madness? For this and then the counter too! This two-drop uncommon in Blue enchantment can discard any card and then draw, like an early rummaging but in Blue! Just keep two mana open to sac this when it would die to draw too! Love this little thang so much!
#2. Key to the City
This fun two-drop can tap to discard anything - very cheap and no additional costs, but just once per turn. Then your dork cannot be blocked this turn...nasty good with Madness and Commander or other death-dealers! Then draw when you untap it with two mana!
#1. Chainer, Nightmare Adept
I adore this madness plus dork that adds to the discard in this case on a four-drop 3/2 size dork with discarding any card and then you can get a free cast of a dork in your graveyard this turn! Note that's just once/turn but in a Madness shell you can discard, cast with madness with a reduced cost and then cast your Madness support dork or other key thing too! It's just nasty great with Madness since he does something more to the discard than Anje but she's the better Commander - make sense? I hope so!
