Burst Protocol contains a ton of support cards for a variety of decks and I'm here to cover them. We'll mostly be taking a look at cards that could be considered outside of the meta. Here are some of the themes that received upgrades in this set to help keep your decks in tip-top shape.
1. Archfiend
Archfiend receives new support in Burst Protocol that is an evolution of its already established strategy. The new boss monster Archfiend Emperor is what the deck aims to summon and finish opponents off with. Ritual summoning it to the Extra Monster Zone lets you benefit from the effects of your Archfiend Spells and Traps such as Archfiend Strategy and Archfiend's Fervor.
You also get new searchers in Royal Archfiend and Highness Archfiend that can be used to grab your Archfiend Emperor or support Spells and Traps. If you're feeling nostalgic, you can go for Archfiend's Advent or bridge into the Regenesis cards.
2. Assault Mode
The all-new Assault Mode cards finally let the strategy stand on its own legs. Crimson Blader/Assault Mode is a searcher that acts the same way Metalflame Swordsman does for the Metalmorph strategy. It can be used to search the new Field Spell, Duel Evolution - Assault Zone which really propels the strategy since it lets you tribute from the Extra Deck on top of its other bonuses.
Nightwinged Cleric lets you activate Assault Mode Activate the turn it was set. You're free to go into any of the traditional Assault Mode bosses or summon something new like Junk Warrior/Assault Mode.
3. B.E.S.
B.E.S. adds three new cards to its Monster card lineup that gives you even bigger Machine Type bosses to summon. Super B.E.S. Metal Slave is easily summonable by sending other B.E.S. monsters from the deck to the Graveyard (GY). You'll want to keep it protected with the B.E.F. Zelos Field Spell which B.E.S. Derringer Core can search.
Boss on Parade can search up either of the new B.E.S. monsters or help you go into your smaller ships like the new Vic Viper Type-L. It can help you cycle into some of your B.E.S. monsters that were sent to the GY by Metal Slave. Tech in something like Clockwork Night and you can overwhelm your opponent with your mechanical fleet.
4. Darklord
Lore fans will be pleased that Darklords get substantial upgrades from this set that push their deck further. Darklord Eveningstar is great for getting the Darklord Spell/Trap you need for any given situation and doubling up on their effects. It doesn't replace The First Darklord as the archetype's finisher monster but it is quite strong.
Darklord Djehuty makes up for its low stats by being able to summon any Darklord from the Deck in Defense. It sets you up nicely to Link Summon Condemned Darklord to extend your plays. Don't forget Djehuty's Graveyard effect that can add a "Forbidden" Quick-Play Spell like Forbidden Crown back to your hand.
5. Exosisters
We've got two new cards that point toward Exosister Martha turning to the dark side. Exosister Betrayal lets you add two Exosisters from your deck to your hand then discard one card making it a great way to start your turn. Then there's Exosister Karmael, Martha's new XYZ form that can set an Exosister Spell/Trap from the Deck, GY, or Banishment.
Those familiar with the Exosister strategy know how powerful the Trap Card effects can be. Karmael also lets you overwrite an opponent's activated monster or Normal Spell Card effect to give you some recursion. This makes Martha's new power deadly in the right hands.
6. Fur Hire
I'm not sure if giving a tactical nuke to cute woodland creatures is a good idea but that's what it feels like we got from the new Fur Hire support cards. Furtive Techniques Fur Hire, Fur All Your Ultimate Moves targets face up cards on the field up to the number of Fur Hire monsters you control with different names and destroys/banishes them. Since the strategy hinges on swarming the field, this Trap Card is quite the bomb.
If the Trap Card is the dynamite, then Keel, Shipwright Fur Hire is the monster holding the fuse. It lets you set one Fur Hire Spell/Trap or the Field Spell directly from your deck. You can even mix the strategy with K9 to fill out the Extra Deck.
7. Magnet Warriors
Magnet Warrior Sigma Minus and Magnet Warrior Sigma Plus add some search power and utility to your end board to lock up your opponent or force them to attack your powerful boss monsters.
Sigma Minus can also get you to the new Quick-Play Spell Magnet Bonding which can search for almost any card in the archetype or perform a Fusion Summon. Tellusion the Magna Warrior and Conduction Warrior Plasma Magnum work as disruption and extenders.
8. Rescue-ACE
Rescue-ACE didn't get much out of Burst Protocol, but the new Rescue-ACE Arbitrator gives you a new Link-4 end board piece to pop cards as you activate your Spells or Traps. There's also Rescue-ACE Quick Attacker which has a niche going-second effect to bring out a Rescue-ACE monster from the deck. It's still a solid rogue Fire deck.
9. Rokket
Borrelshroud Dragon is the cover card for the set and lets you cheat out another Link-4 Borrel monster during the battle phase. The deck's starter card options also improve with Rocket Loader being able to search Absorouter Dragon. The deck still struggles against Nibiru, the Primal Being so be careful during your combos.
10. Tistina
Tistina did not receive any direct support, but it did receive some new Rank 10 tools to add to its arsenal. Vodnika the Fountain Spirit can be worked into your normal Tistina plays when you send a level 10 monster to the GY from the Field Spell. Mercurium the Living Quicksilver is a new Rank 10 Monster that can floodgate your opponent's GY monster effects and has nice stats.
Conclusion
Burst Protocol adds a variety of new tools to the themes we love. From Yugi's 2016 Magnet Warriors to Revolver's Rokkets and everything in between, now is a great time to add some strong upgrades to your decks.
