Three Sweet Standard Brews as Aetherdrift Approaches

Reddit

Hello Reader - it is so great to be back! The last few months have been quite busy, and a lot of amazing things have happened for me in my Magic: The Gathering content creation journey. Since we last met here, I was selected to be a part of the MTGAmbassador program for Foundations, have been actively playing Regional Championship Qualifier tournaments in my area, and even made the trip all the way to the Spotlight Series in Atlanta, Georgia! Needless to say, I've been playing an absolute ton of Standard, whether that be in paper Magic, on MTGArena, or Magic: The Gathering Online. Over the last few weeks, members of my Twitch community have been submitting some sweet brews for me to play on the ladder, and as always, I love to feature their creations here!

The first decklist that I'd like to highlight is Twitch user YesterdaysMeta's Simic (ug) Synthesizer Artifacts deck!

Simulacrum Synthesizer is one amazing Magic card, and quite underplayed in Standard right now. Being able to make construct tokens that continually grow in size for the more artifacts you have on the battlefield, in a deck that has 21 artifacts in it, is pretty good! And each of those artifacts in the deck and sideboard trigger Simulacrum Synthesizer's triggered ability. An obvious win condition of this deck is to assemble an army of large construct tokens - and the addition of Doppelgang and For the Common Good give you the ability to multiply your tokens while creating copies of Simulacrum Synthesizer and more! This deck has a lot of ramp from Heaped Harvest to Ancient Cornucopia, which enables you to incrementally gain life and remain in the game until you can cast a fairly large Doppelgang. Tools like This Town Ain't Big Enough let you bounce your own permanents to recast for additional Simulacrum Synthesizer triggers, while Three Steps Ahead allows for the versatility of countering spells and copying needed artifacts.

Next up for the sweet community brews, I present to you Twitch User OkIScoop's Jund (brg) Self-Mill deck!

Over the last few months, I've played many iterations of OkIScoop's Jund Self-Mill list, and each time it is an absolute joy. Interestingly enough, recently folks on the MTGArena ladder haven't been playing much graveyard hate as they did about a month ago, and that's letting this deck flourish a bit more than usual. This list has the ability to fill the graveyard quick to enable you to play some huge threats in the early game - and gives you the ability to go bigger against the smaller aggro decks like Gruul (rg) and Boros (wr). OkIScoop's deck also has good play against the bounce decks like Esper (wub) Pixie or Dimir (ub) Bounce because they make you discard with an upside. Aside from being able to attack your opponents with big creatures like Souls of the Lost and Urborg Lhurgoyf, there's the alternate win condition of Callous Sell-Sword to deal big damage directly to your opponent. And really, this highlights the versatility of Overlord of the Balemurk - an enchantment or creature that enables you to return large threats from the graveyard to your hand, or the ability to return a milled Callous Sell-Sword win! If you like graveyard-based strategy decks, I would highly encourage you take this for a spin.

The last community-created deck that I'd like to feature this week was created by GoKalper, and is a pretty sweet take on a Caretaker's Talent deck that takes advantage of Stormchaser's Talent and This Town Ain't Big Enough. I present to you, Azorius (wu) Cage!

This deck functions as a Caretaker's Talent build that also takes advantage of Collector's Cage synergies. Collector's Cage is able to cheat out huge threats like Overlord of the Mistmoors - which is an amazing card against a lot of matchups. The Enigma Jewel // Locus of Enlightenment is able to serve as fuel to the engine by acting as a mana sink for activated abilities of both Stormchaser's Talent and Caretaker's Talent, and paying for costs of map tokens. You're able to out-tempo your opponent by looping Stormchaser's Talent and This Town Ain't Big Enough as well. In the early game, you'll want to establish your mana and cast cheap threats like Spyglass Siren and Stormchaser's Talent for otters. Then you'll move toward setting up the loop or establishing Collector's Cage for a cheap Overlord of the Mistmoors. And I know what you're thinking - is everyone just jamming Stormchaser's Talent and This Town Ain't Big Enough into a bunch of decks? That answer is yes! Turns out that synergy is one of the best things you can do in Standard right now!

Featuring community-created decks is something I absolutely love to do, and honestly, it's what makes streaming so fun! If you have the chance, check my stream out on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/cfavretto_jr , where you'll find me regularly climbing the MTGArena ladder and playing Standard Leagues on Magic: The Gathering Online. Submit decks for me to play during the stream - and maybe your brew will end up in an article here next! Foundations Standard has been an absolute blast to experience, as brews are still emerging in an ever-growing metagame. And in a few weeks, we'll start brewing with the vehicles of Aetherdrift! In a few short weeks, from February 21st-23rd, you can find me at Magic Con: Chicago! Catch me in Creator Central throughout the weekend, and if you're going - I'd love to connect to play some games, hand out some tokens and stickers, and generally chat about Magic!

Until next time, Reader! I'll see you on the Battlefield!
