France Wins World Magic Cup

Reddit

71 Teams. 284 Players. In the end for the World Magic Cup, it all came down to France and Hungary. Gabor Kocsis and his Green-White Aggro deck took down Yann Guthmann's Blue-White Flash deck in two quick games. Raphael Levy and Ervin Hosszu split their first two games, but in the end Ervin mulliganed to five in game three and fell to Raphael Levy's Mono-Green Aggro deck. It all came down to the Jund mirror between Timothee Simonot and Adorjan Korbl. The games were a brutal, back-and-forth affair, with Garruk, Primal Hunters being trumped by Bonfire of the Damneds and Olvia Voldaren trumping other creatures. A timely Bonfire the Damned took game two for Adorjan Korbl of Hungary and it looked like he would take game three on the back of Olivia Voldaren; but Timothee Simonot chipped in for damage, bought himself extra turns, and flipped over a lethal Rakdos's Return on the last possible turn.

Congratulations to Yann Guthmann, Raphael Levy, Timothee Simonot, and Soubrier Stephane of Team France, your World Magic Cup champions. You can check out the decks of the top two teams below, or head over to the official coverage on DailyMTG.com for more decks and stories from the event.
