Turtenwald on Top in DC

Reddit

Many players showed up at Grand Prix Washington, D.C. to sleeve up their Force of Wills, Wastelands, and Lion's Eye Diamonds and battle Legacy. True-Name Nemesis was the talk of the weekend, and was the card that dominated this event. This Merfolk Rogue does not care about Swords to Plowshares, Tarmogoyf, or even Batterskull, and absolutely dominated the midrangey creature mirrors by providing an evasive, hexproof threat as well as an unbeatable blocker.

With 15 rounds in the books, the Top 8 had been determined, and it was absolutely incredible. Sam Black and Craig Wescoe continued their streaks of strong finishes this year, while Andrew Cuneo qualified himself for the Pro Tour again and Owen Turtenwald earned his 13th Grand Prix Top 8.

Owen Turtenwald and his UWR Delver deck managed to battle their way past Andrew Cuneo and his Elf deck. With some help from True-Name Nemesis, Owen was able to race Sam Black's Knight of the Reliquarys and earn himself an appearance in the finals. In that final match against Jared Boettcher, Owen managed to stay just ahead of Jared's Sneak and Show deck, winning the second game with triple Force of Will to become the champion of Grand Prix DC.

Congratulations to Owen Turtenwald, who has earned his first Grand Prix title.
