Exciting Edge of Eternities Cards: White

Reddit

Gotta be honest: I actually had no idea when Edge of Eternities released, so I was shocked to realize the Prerelease was July 25th. I mean, in all honestly, I'm still waiting on cards from my Final Fantasy orders and we already have another set releasing! It's seriously a struggle keeping up with Magic sets nowadays, and I do think organized play ends up suffering a bit for it, but despite all that, Edge of Eternities looks really cool, and I'm more excited for Spider-Man than any set I can think of in a long time.

All that being said, just like Final Fantasy I'm going to go over my exciting picks for Edge of Eternities, including all the colors as well as the multicolor and colorless cards.

Today we're starting with the White cards. I usually try and select around eight cards for lists like this, but I may err on the side of shorter descriptions while cramming in more cards if the selection warrants it.

Let's begin!

Astelli Reclaimer

This is a cool card. I don't even mind not being able to return noncreatures, because there are a ton of strong artifacts and planeswalkers you can bring back. For five mana, you basically get a reanimate spell for noncreature permanents that also comes with a 5/4 flier, that can also be cast for three mana to reanimate something smaller. This card is great and I'm surprised it's not a mythic.

Beyond the Quiet

Beyond the Quiet

This is not the most exciting wrath effect we've ever seen, but it's a White wrath in a Standard set that costs five mana or less, so it's going to see some play, just like Ultima does. Being able to exile all the creatures, as well as hitting all spacecraft, does give this a bit more nuance and may be useful in specific situations or metagames.

Cosmogrand Zenith

I'd love to think we'd eventually learn our lesson about giving crazy-good abilities that trigger when you cast your second spell. It does not seem like we have as a 2/4 for three-mana with multiple good options seems like it's begging to be broken. In Modern, you can play this as your first spell, then get two free 1/1s with something like a Memnite or a Mishra's Bauble.

Exalted Sunborn

As a non-Commander player, I admittedly don't really care about this card that much. That being said, I know Commander players eat these up, and that's why every single set nowadays has at least one card that doubles (or triples) your tokens. I will say this seems like a great take on that ability.

Haliya, Guided by Light

Haliya, Guided by Light

Whenever a White 3/3 for three mana has, like, three different effects, they're always worth a good look. Haliya, doing an upgraded Soul Warden impression, is no exception. Also being able to draw you cards whenever you gain three life is awesome. And then she also has warp as well. There's a lot going on here, with the only downside being that she's legendary.

Hardlight Containment

Hardlight Containment

At one mana for a removal spell, this continues a long line of cards that try to emulate Swords to Plowshares. Needing an artifact means this can only work in specific decks that can guarantee having that, but giving ward to the artifact you enchant is a nice bonus. This feels a lot like a Chained to the Rocks, but enchanting a land is a bit easier than enchanting an artifact.

Honored Knight-Captain

This card is at least as good as numerous other cards that give you two 1/1s for two-mana. The difference here is the ability to eventually search for any equipment in your deck, and put it on the battlefield for free in the late game. That's a cool addition, even if it costs six mana.

Lumen-Class Frigate

Lumen-Class Frigate

Anthem effects are always highly valued, especially when they don't have restrictions, such as only buffing certain creature types. The Frigate is not only absent of any such restrictions, but it also has the potential to eventually become a creature. The only downside is having to tap two-power worth of creatures in order to get this online, but that shouldn't be very difficult at all; just tap the first creature you play after playing this!

Pulsar Squadron Ace

Pulsar Squadron Ace

I don't know if this card will be any good, but typically White creatures that are able to draw you a specific card do see a good amount of play if there's a good enough subset of the cards they can find. The nice part about the Ace is that if you don't hit a Spacecraft, you still get a 2/3 for two out of it.

The Seriema

The Seriema

For three mana, this is a cool one. I was a big fan of Thalia's Lancers and this is kind of a sidegrade to that. You get the same legendary creature for three mana, but if you manage to station this, you get a 5/5 flier that gives all your other legendary creatures indestructible. If you're in the market for a three mana tutor that takes a little work to get going, I like The Seriema a lot.

Anyway, thanks for reading and I'll catch ya next time!
