Welcome back to part two of our exciting Edge of Eternities picks. I'm going to be talking about all the colors in Edge of Eternities, so be sure to check out the previous colors by clicking on my byline above.
Today we're continuing with the Blue cards that caught my eye. I usually try and select around eight cards for lists like this, but as with the White cards, I may err on the side of shorter descriptions while cramming in more cards if the selection warrants it.
Let's begin!
Cerebral Download
Cerebral Download isn't the most exciting card ever, but it sure gives a great idea of how far we've come from Jace's Ingenuity. This is basically just Ugin's Insight with surveil instead of scry, and that was a rare!
Codecracker Hound
I love a good Dog, and this guy (or gal) is doing their best Sea Gate Oracle impression, only with the benefit of being able to warp first and do it a second time. The Codecracker also puts the card not chosen into the graveyard, which can be a very valuable effect in a lot of decks, so this could be an upgrade to the Oracle.
Consult the Star Charts
This is another good draw spell at rare, which is surprising since we haven't even gotten past the C's yet. Consult is always going to get you one card for two mana and two cards for four mana. These are pretty normal rates, considering things like Anticipate, Think Twice, or Glimmer of Genius. But your selection gets better based on how many lands you have in play, which makes perfect sense for the "lander" set. This will absolutely see play. In the late game, looking at seven cards for two mana is basically Dig Through Time.
Emissary Escort
Just like a good Dog, I love a cool Robot, and this is a cool Robot. With a single Myr Enforcer (or adjacent seven-mana affinity guy) on the board, the Escort ends up being a 7/4 for two mana. That's a crazy deal, and rivals old school Tarmogoyf stats.
Gigastorm Titan
Creatures with good stats that have their costs reduced typically always see play. They often see play in decks that are trying to fill their graveyards and play multiple spells per turn. I think the Titan will fit right into those decks, especially alongside a card like Cosmogrand Zenith. Casting something like Opt on turn three to cast this guy for two-mana is a bargain.
Quantum Riddler
Just like a cool Robot, I love a cool Sphinx. As a five-mana flier, this is basically half a Mulldrifter, only it's a 4/6 instead of a 2/2, and you can warp it just like evoking a Mulldrifter. But then you can cast it again later. Also, if you only have one card in your hand when this enters, you do draw two cards, just like Mulldrifter! That's pretty cool.
Synthesizer Labship
I don't know what to make of this card yet, but there's a lot that's sticking out. First off, it can turn your boring artifacts into 2/2 fliers each turn. Secondly, it only costs one mana, which makes it really cost effective, especially in a deck filled with other cheap artifacts. Third, it's not legendary, so you can easily play two of these and have them target each other to make two 2/2 fliers each turn. Finally, these eventually become Serra Angels after you station them with nine power.
(Is "station" them the correct verb? Are we stationing things now?)
Like I said, I don't know if this card is anything special, but it sure feels like it's begging to be part of an aggressive artifact deck, or a deck that wants to play multiple spells per turn.
Uthros Psionicist
Remember those decks that are trying to cast multiple spells per turn? Well, now we have a 2/4 for three mana that gives a really solid discount to the second spell those decks are looking to cast. I don't know how good this guy actually is, but on turn four, you can play a three-drop for three mana, then a second three-drop for one mana. Seems like a great deal.
Weftwalking
On one hand, this is a one-sided Time Spiral / Echo of Eons. On the other hand, your opponent is almost guaranteed to be the first one that gets to cast a free spell on their turn. That second part is a hard pill to swallow, especially if it allows them to cast something like two six-drops on their turn.
That being said, drawing seven cards is nothing to sneeze at, so I'm really not sure where this will fall. Interesting card for sure.
Anyway, thanks for reading and I'll catch ya next time!
