What's up everyone! I'm back to talk a little more about the Gundam Card Game! Last time I explored the various starter decks. Be sure to go check that article out if you want more information on the starter decks that are available now! This time however, it's time to take a closer look at the first set, Gundam- Newtype Rising! This set releases on July 25th. There will be a lot of hype around this game when it releases. Not only does it take a lot of attributes and game mechanics from other Bandai card games, but it introduces some unique elements as well! Let's dig a little deeper into this release.
The Gundam Newtype-Rising set will officially launch the Gundam Card Game! For months, us Gundam fans have been playing with the beta kits and trial decks that featured cards from this set and the starter decks. All this did was create a lot of hype and make people want the set to release a lot faster. So I highly expect this set to be met with a lot of excitement as well as a lot of people buying product. Typically, product can be hard to come by when a new Bandai game launches so definitely keep an eye out at your local card shops or wherever you buy cards if you are interested in playing this game! With that disclaimer out of the way lets dig into some of the contents of the actual set!

This set will contain over 130 cards and will feature 6 different types of cards needed to play the game: Units, Commands, Pilots, Bases, Resources, and lastly Tokens. All of these types of cards play a different role in the game. If you are not familiar with how all of these types of cards work together, I highly recommend downloading the Gundam Card Game Tutorial App to learn how to play the gam to be ready for the release. Speaking of the release - Booster boxes will contain 24 booster packs, while Booster packs will contain 12 cards + 1 of either a Resource/Ex Resource/ EX token/ or a Unit Token. This is similar to how in other Bandai games, like One Piece, you receive x amount of cards plus 1 Don!! Card. This is typically done to ensure that you get every type of card you need in order to play the game. Now that we know how many cards are in the set and what explicitly comes in the booster packs, let's look at what sets are feature in this launch set!
This Set will feature Gundams, Pilots, and Bases from a multitude of Gundam Series! They are: Mobile Suit Gundam, Unicorn, Wing, Seed, and Witch of Mercury! This set contains fan favorites like the original Gundam RX-78, Char's Gelgoog, and even more recent units like Gundam Aerial Rebuild. As of writing this we do not know which cards will have alternate art but some of these fan favorites are definitely a solid bet! This launch set really gets us started with some of the most popular Gundam series of all time and really helps to create that launch hype. Now let's talk a little bit about the games color mechanic and how that plays out.

As of this set, there are four different colors that determine how you build your deck. We have Blue, White, Green, and Red. You are allowed to build a deck with any two colors. Also, as of right now, there are no multicolored cards. In past Bandai games they have made multicolored cards to help create certain archetypes which I could see them doing with Gundam in the future. But for now, that is something we don't have to worry about. What's unique about this game when compared to something like One Piece, is there is no leader dictating the color you play. So, until your opponent plays down a unit or a command you really have no idea what color combination they are playing. This creates some really cool tension when you're playing and can also be a sort of skill check as to when you want to reveal what you are playing to your opponent. You could, for example, hold onto a Blue card and just play White units for your first few turns so that your opponent doesn't know what they are up against. I really enjoy little things like that in card games.
Well, guys that's it for Gundam Newtype-Rising! I think this game is going to have a great launch with a lot of excitement. As I said earlier - I really think product will not stay on shelves for too long! So be sure to have pre-orders in place or go to your local card shops on launch day to secure your cards and start playing the Gundam Card Game! Be sure to keep a look out for my next article, where I go over the first two official events that you can sign up for and play! Thanks as always for reading.
