New Decks To Try Out for Aetherdrift Standard

Reddit

With Aetherdrift putting the pedal to the metal, we're in for a pretty unique Standard environment. As someone who likes tinkering with the new set as it comes out, I've put together a handful of decks for you to take a look at. These range from budget to expensive, from jank to competitive. Let's take a look at some of the decks you might run into in the Standard queue.

Exhaust Reanimator

Afterburner Expert
Draconautics Engineer
Voldaren Thrillseeker

What's better than playing aggro? Playing aggro with a reanimator combo, of course. This deck focuses on dumping your Afterburner Expert into the graveyard and then reanimating it with the help of Draconautics Engineer. The two copies of Voldaren Thrillseeker help ensure you can use its Backup ability to throw something at your opponent's face in case of a board stall.

Selesnya Counters

Brightglass Gearhulk
Marketback Walker
District Mascot

Selesnya has always excelled at making small creatures a lot bigger. With support from Aetherdrift and cards like Ozolith, the Shattered Spire in Standard, this deck can really be a contender. Doubling Season supercharges your counters game plan, and Ajani, Caller of the Pride can provide both pressure and extra buffs.

Mono-Red Goblins

Krenko, Mob Boss
Burnout Bashtronaut
Howlsquad Heavy

It's been a hot minute since we saw a semi-competitive Goblin build in Standard, but with recent additions, the tribe is looking more explosive than ever. Howlsquad Heavy lets Krenko, Mob Boss activate the same turn he drops, and lords like Rundvelt Hordemaster and Dropkick Bomber can buff your tokens in a hurry.

Mono-White Cats

Basri, Tomorrow's Champion

Another budget-friendly tribal list, Mono-White Cats has long been a Standard staple - though it struggles against non-exile-based sweepers. Thanks to Basri, Tomorrow's Champion, the deck gets a much-needed resilience boost and might just have the claws to be a serious threat.

Izzet Artist's Monument

Monument to Endurance
Artist's Talent
Stock Up

Fans of looting finally have a deck that plays to their niche desires. Monument to Endurance proves powerful when built around, while Artist's Talent makes sure you loot with every noncreature spell. Expect consistent filtering and big payoffs every turn.

Azorius Artifact Reanimator

Tune Up
Valor's Flagship
Thundering Broodwagon

Taking cues from classic Kaladesh Reanimator, this deck aims to dump artifacts into the graveyard early and reanimate them at lightning speed. Portal to Phyrexia is among your best payoffs - devastating when it lands ahead of schedule and setting your opponent back to the Stone Age.

Coalstoke Twin

Coalstoke Gearhulk
Waxen Shapethief
Quag Feast

For those who remember the glory days of Splinter Twin in Modern, Coalstoke Twin brings back that nostalgic rush. Centered on clone effects like Waxen Shapethief and finished by hasty Gearhulks, this list can explode into a lethal combat step before your opponent can blink.

What Are You Building for Standard?

What sort of weird and out-there brews are you coming up with for this Standard environment? Some of these decks definitely have potential, but they could use a little bit of tweaking. Regardless of how it all plays out, this Standard environment is going to be an amazing place to explore in the coming months.
