Blood And Roles And Braids Oh My!

Reddit

Magic: The Gathering has had a real thing for game objects lately.

Wicked Role // Cursed Role
Blood (Token)
Spirit (Token)

Mechanics like Blood tokens from Innistrad and the new Role tokens from Wilds of Eldraine allow you to create material that acts like cards but isn't giving you many more permanents to work with than actual cards in your deck. While of course Blood tokens and Role tokens have their set purposes, to discard and draw cards and (mostly) augment your creatures, the fact that they are permanents in play also has relevance too for things from the City's Blessing to sacrifice effects.

Do you know what card loves when you have a bunch of disposable permanents in play that are odd types?

It's Braids!

Braids, Arisen Nightmare
Twisted Fealty

As we saw, Braids is pretty awesome in this deck. Sacrificing a Cursed Role or a Blood token is pretty great as your opponent isn't likely to have an enchantment or artifact in play, meaning you can get a full card and two damage for just a token. You also have the ability to do the usual steal-and-sac thing with Twisted Fealty, sacrificing the thing you steal to Braids for free, or the other sacrifice effects like Annihilating Glare or Hostile Hostel // Creeping Inn.

Unfortunately, this set of matches didn't go so well and the deck definitely needs work. It's still a very new format and we're still trying to understand which cards work and don't and Lord Skitter's Blessing was extremely unimpressive.

Still, these sorts of Rakdos Sacrifice decks have quite the pedigree over the last few years, so there's definitely something here!
