Hi folks. Welcome to the Weekly Sale Column. This column will show you some cards on sale that might spice up your lists or inspire something completely new. These lists will usually be Commander lists in Bracket 3, so you'll be able to play these in any Bracket 3 (or higher) pods.
If you want to play in lower pods, just swap out the Game Changers for other choices; if you want to compete with Bracket 4 and 5 pods, add more along with some other competitive combos.
Keep in mind that the Game Changers in your deck aren't the only thing that moves you up and down a bracket. Your intent with your deck; inclusions of other interactions, engines, and combos; and overall playgroup should all be factors in your bracket!
Remember that the weekly sale ends on Sunday night at 11:59 PM EST, so you have until then to get your cards ordered.
Etched Foils
This week's sale focuses on cards with etched foiling treatments. Most of these come from special, non-Standard sets, like Modern Horizons 2 or Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate. Some of these made it to Standard in their time, like cards from March of the Machine, but basically, we've got quite a good card pool for us today.
I've created a Four-Color Artifacts deck for you all today, led by the wonderful Breya, Etherium Shaper. Breya decks shine at using small artifacts to get tons of value, whether it be through Affinity or through Improvise. An Army of Little Guys
Breya herself makes two 1/1 Flying Thopter tokens when she enters, and she has a neat activated ability that requires you to sacrifice two Artifacts. We're gonna capitalize on that and play tons of ways to make more little guys along with benefitting from those little guys. Starting with our army, we have cards like Baleful Strix and Scrap Trawler for value.
Etherium Sculptor, Enthusiastic Mechanaut, and Foundry Inspector all make our other Artifacts cheaper. Forensic Gadgeteer will make Breya's ability only cost one while also giving us Clue tokens. Sai, Master Thopterist is going to give us the majority of our army. Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter will let us turn that army into Treasures.
Emry, Lurker of the Loch works with Scrap Trawler to make sure we're getting our stuff back from our graveyard. Dynaheir, Invoker Adept will make Emry and Jan Jansen better by letting us use their abilities right away.
Urza, Lord High Artificer and Urza, Chief Artificer will give us Karnstruct tokens that we'll use to attack for tons, since we'll always have tons of Artifacts in play. Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer will make all of our Thopters into more Karnstructs, which will get real big, real fast.
Finally, we play a classic combo with Thopter Foundry and Sword of the Meek for constant Thopter value. Those that played with this combo in 60-card formats know how consistent it can be once it's online. Basically, you sacrifice the Sword of the Meek to the Thopter Foundry, which will make a 1/1 Thopter. That Thopter will bring the Sword of the Meek back. Rinse and repeat for our army!
The Payoffs
Our main payoffs for our armies of Artifacts include the two Urzas for attacking along with a few other nifty cards. Marionette Apprentice and Marionette Master will benefit from Breya's sacrifice ability by making our opponents lose life. Arbaaz Mir will work well with the nontoken Artifacts by draining each of our opponents for 1.
Aside from Creatures, we also have Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge, who's main goal here is to just use the +2 ability to constantly deal damage to our opponents for the number of Artifacts we have. The ultimate ability is nice, but we'll honestly just win with the +2.
Finally, we have our secret win condition, Mechanized Production. You can use this to enchant any Artifact you control, which will then give you one every upkeep. When it gives you one, if you have eight or more of any Artifact with the same name, you win the game.
Fun fact, a Blue Thopter created by Breya, Etherium Shaper/Thopter Foundry has the same name as a colorless Thopter made by Thopter Spy Network or Sai, Master Thopterist. I didn't tell you that, so please don't use that info against me in a game.
Change the Game
For our Game Changers for this week, we've opted for two in the sale and one not. First off with our outside addition comes Enlightened Tutor. This card is a no-brainer in a 100-card format where you want certain Artifacts or Enchantments-named-Mechanized-Production. It's fantastic.
Next up is Cyclonic Rift. Our whole plan hinges on us surviving until we're getting absolute value out of our Artifacts. So, having an early removal spell that doubles as a late-game mass removal spell for our opponents is huge. Most of the time, if you resolve the Overload here, you probably win, especially if you did it on your opponent's turn.
Finally, we've got Teferi's Protection. To echo off of the Cyclonic Rift, we want to survive and we need our permanents. Sure, we have some recursion, but overall, we want to make sure our stuff stays in play and that we don't die to a fast deck on like turn four or five. Teferi's Protection enables just that, so another no-brainer.
If you want to bring this up even higher in power, I'd include Time Sieve. Time Sieve leads to some nasty combos involving Scrap Trawler, Marionette Master, and Sai, Master Thopterist. Even just getting some extra value out of your Mechanized Production will do a lot for you. I've excluded it today, but definitely play it if you're feeling it.
Final Thoughts
This deck was super fun to design, I always love it when I get a big ol' hodge podge of a card pool for the weekly sale. It leads to Four-Color decks full of synergy and non-stop utility. Thanks for reading, see you all next week.
