Dimir-Based Decklists for March of the Machine Standard

Reddit

Hello everyone. House Dimir is the Blue/Black guild on Ravnica. It operates behind the scenes, dealing in secret matters. This week, I've discovered some Dimir deck lists that you can try out, but please keep these lists a secret. I wouldn't want word to get back to House Dimir that I've been sharing their secret information. Let's get started.

Dimir Faeries

We'll get started by taking a look at a deck that features a fair amount of our flying, fae friends. Let's look at the deck.

Faerie Mastermind
Faerie Mastermind is the star. You can flash it into play, preferably right after your opponent has cast a spell or activated an ability that allows them to draw a card. This can allow you the opportunity to draw a card yourself. With the amount of Bankbuster Reckoner's seeing play, you shouldn't have any trouble pulling this trick off. Once Faerie Mastermind is in play, your opponent might stop drawing extra cards, but you can force them to do so by paying 4 mana which will force each player to draw a card. This can be especially devastating if you have a copy of Sheoldred, the Apocalypse on the battlefield.

This deck also includes a playset of Halo Forager. When Halo Forager enters the battlefield, you can 'cast' an instant or sorcery from any player's graveyard. You can take advantage of using your opponent's own spells against them, or cast your own Cut Down or Go for the Throat an additional time. This also works well if you're able to cast Duress, as you can further reduce the options your opponent has available. Late in the game, you might have enough mana to cast Invoke Despair with this ability, but since this requires 8 mana, it will be difficult to pull off.

Dimir Mill Control

Next, I have a control deck that uses milling as its primary route to victory.

Invasion of Amonkhet // Lazotep Convert

With Invasion of Amonkhet // Lazotep Convert, you'll begin filling up your opponent's graveyard. This will become important, as the key to winning with this deck isn't to mill your opponent's deck out of cards, but to use those milled cards for yourself. You'll do this by casting Sheoldred // The True Scriptures, and transforming her into The True Scriptures. Both Sheoldred and The True Scriptures force your opponent to sacrifice or destroy their own creatures or planeswalkers. Once you reach chapter three, you'll be able to return all the creatures that are in graveyards to the battlefield under your control. You can then use those creatures to attack your opponent directly.

To help get additional cards into your opponent's graveyard, there are a couple of important cards to remember. First is Jace, the Perfected Mind. Casting Jace will allow you to mill your opponent's deck of up to 15 cards immediately. You can also use Breach the Multiverse to mill ten more cards. After that's done, you'll be able to choose a creature or planeswalker in your opponent's graveyard to enter the battlefield under your control. Being beaten by your own cards never feels good, yet I'm looking forward to trying this deck out.

Dimir Zombie Reanimator

The next deck I have for you is a Zombie-themed deck that seems to never run out of Zombies. Let's check it out.

Headless Rider
Headless Rider is a fairly forgotten card from Innistrad: Crimson Vow, but it truly shines in this deck. Whenever it or another nontoken Zombie you control dies, you'll create a 2/2 Zombie creature token. By pairing up this card along with other Zombies, such as Champion of the Perished, Bladestitched Skaab, and Fell Stinger, you'll be able to withstand most board wipes.

You can also further the number of Zombies you have on the battlefield with Invasion of Innistrad // Deluge of the Dead. This battle can be flashed into play just in time to destroy your opponent's most powerful creature. Once the battle is defeated, it will transform into Deluge of the Dead. This enchantment not only gives you two 2/2 Zombie creature tokens right away, but it allows you to create additional Zombies by exiling creatures for each player's graveyard. That equates to even more resilience to mass creature destruction spells.

Dimir Shark Control

My final deck this week utilizes control cards as a means of finishing out the game.

Chrome Host Seedshark
Chrome Host Seedshark is a vital card in this deck. As a three-mana 2/4 creature with flying, having a copy of this Phyrexian Shark on the battlefield will often act as a deterrent to attacking for your opponent. Its true power is in its ability which allows you to create Incubator tokens whenever you cast a noncreature spell. Those Incubator tokens have a variable number of +1/+1 counters on them, based on the mana value of the noncreature spell you cast. This is perfect for a control deck, as your counterspells and removal will serve double duty countering your opponent's plans while furthering your ability to finish them off.

Other notable cards in this deck include Reckoner Bankbuster, Invoke Despair, and Gix's Command. Reckoner Bankbuster acts as a source of card drawing for this deck, which helps you maintain a grip of countermagic. It can also be useful as an additional attacker later in the game. Invoke Despair is one of the most utilized cards in Standard, forcing sacrifices or loss of life from your opponent. Finally, Gix's Command does a variety of things, but its most important mode is its third one, which allows you to return up to two creature cards from your graveyard to your hand. You might need this in the event that your opponent has removal spells of their own that they target your Chrome Host Seedsharks with.

Wrapping Up

While the Dimir color pairing might not be my favorite, I'm willing to respect the power that it commands. For those times that I need a break from playing an aggressive deck, I can turn to decks like these to help clear my head and revitalize me. I hope you also enjoy these decks, but please, for my own safety, don't let Lazav, the leader of House Dimir, know that I've shared them with you.

What do you think of these decks? Feel free to share this article with your friends anywhere on social media. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in Standard. I'll see you then!
