Experimental Decks for Final Fantasy Standard

Reddit

Hello everyone. Final Fantasy has taken Magic by storm and a lot of new decks are being tested. This week, I have a few more new decks that you can try out for yourself. Let's get started.

Naya Yuna

We'll get started by taking a look at a deck featuring Yuna, Hope of Spira that also includes a number of enchantment creatures.

Yuna, Hope of Spira

While you have Yuna, Hope of Spira on the battlefield, she and your enchantment creatures will have lifelink, trample, and ward 2 during your turn. By being able to deal damage to your opponent even if chump blocked (thanks to having trample), you can often get your opponent's life total low enough to finish them off with Lightning Helix. The lifelink is an added bonus, making it tougher for you to be defeated.

While this deck is full of enchantment creatures, Fear of Missing Out is one of the best. As long as you have four or more different card types in your graveyard when Fear of Missing Out attacks, you'll be able to untap a creature and gain an additional attack step, but only if it's the first time Fear of Missing Out has attacked this turn. This can enable you to quickly overwhelm your opponent's defenses, resulting in a quick victory.

Grixis Wizards

Next, I have a Grixis deck that features a lot of Wizard creatures. Let's take a look at the deck.

Kuja, Genome Sorcerer // Trance Kuja, Fate Defied

Kuja, Genome Sorcerer helps fill up your side of the battlefield with 0/1 Wizard creature tokens. These tokens, which are created at the beginning of your end step, deal damage to your opponent whenever you cast a noncreature spell. That can add up to quite a bit of damage. Once you have 4 or more Wizards in play and you cast a noncreature spell, you'll be able to transform Kuja into Trance Kuja, Fate Defined. Trance Kuja has the Flame Star ability which causes any damage that a Wizard you control deals to be doubled.

Vivi Ornitier is a great Wizard creature for this deck. Not only do you gain additional mana while you have Vivi on the battlefield, but you also will gain +1/+1 counters plus additional direct damage whenever you cast a noncreature spell. Try this deck out while you can, because Vivi is a ripe target for a future banning.

Abzan Sephiroth & Jenova

The next deck I have for you features a pair of legendary creatures from Final Fantasy. Let's take a look at the deck.

Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER // Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel
Jenova, Ancient Calamity

Jenova, Ancient Calamity allows you to turn another creature you control into a Mutant at the beginning of combat on your turn. That creature will also gain a number of +1/+1 counters equal to Jenova's power. If a Mutant you control dies, you'll be able to draw cards equal to the Mutant's power while Jenova is in play.

To help you ensure that your Mutant creatures will die, you can attack with Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER. When Sephiroth attacks, you'll be able to sacrifice another creature in order to draw a card. Plus, whenever another creature dies, Sephiroth will drain 1 point of life from your opponent, giving it to you in the process. If this happens 4 times in a turn, you'll be able to transform Sephiroth into Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel.

Jeskai Oculus

The final deck I have for you isn't afraid of having its cards go to the graveyard, because it has ways of returning them to the battlefield. Let's take a look at the deck.

This deck actively wants you to discard cards to your graveyard. Doing this makes it possible to cast Abhorrent Oculus, which requires you to exile 6 cards from your graveyard as an additional casting cost. However, Abhorrent Oculus is worth the trouble. This 5/5 flying creature goes above and beyond, adding creatures to your battlefield each turn it remains in play due to its manifest dread ability.

If your opponent destroys Abhorrent Oculus, there are a couple of ways to return it to the battlefield. The best way is with the use of Recommission. Doing this will allow you to have Abhorrent Oculus enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it, making it even more of a threat. Alternatively, you can use Helping Hand, which costs 1 mana less, but is a bit weaker.

Wrapping Up

With new sets being released into Standard so quickly, there's almost not enough time to try out all of the cool new decks. There's only 5 weeks until our next set releases, so next week I'll be starting my series of decks that all focus on a single color of mana. Be sure to come back as we take a look at some decks focused on Red mana.

What do you think of these decks? Feel free to share this article with your friends anywhere on social media. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in Standard. I'll see you then!
