Lorwyn Eclipsed Previews Come and Go

Following the usual annual Wizards of the Coast holiday break, the company was back at it again in a flash previewing tons of all-new cards for Lorwyn Eclipsed! The debut stream kicked off this past Monday on Twitch and YouTube, showing off dozens of cards and special Booster Fun treatments for those cards. These previews continued throughout the week, including a stellar showcase of the two Commander precons, boasting some awesome new designs and bursting at the seams with sweet reprints. Things capped off earlier today with the full reveal of the set, which you can check out via the Official Card Image Gallery here!

Prereleases start in just one week on January 16, 2026, so be sure to check with your local game store and see if you can preregister now! Can't find what you're looking for locally? No worries - CoolStuffInc has your back! Check out the Lorwyn Eclipsed page today and pick up all your Lorwyn-Shadowmoor goodness today.

Outstanding Promos Coming Alongside Lorwyn Eclipsed

Amidst the preview season came some truly epic promos as well! These promos were revealed to show what players can acquire from attending various events throughout the Lorwyn Eclipsed season.

First off, we were treated to our Standard Showdown and Commander Party promos! Nowhere to Run has proven to be a staple of Constructed play over the last year or so and it makes for an excellent retro frame option! Players who win their local Standard Showdown events can get one of these magnificent cards in foil. A handful of different Commander Party events will also give out a cool retro frame Farhaven Elf - a Commander staple - to all participants who come to get their casual gaming on.

If you're looking for some real serious competition, though, the Store Championship promos this time around are red hot. I know in my local space players are absolutely salivating for these events and it's not hard to see why. Goblin Bombardment, Guide of Souls, and Ocelot Pride make up a good chunk of the backbone for the Modern Boros Energy deck. Given how this is one of the most powerful decks in the Modern format, it's not hard to see what all the hubbub is with this one.

And last but not least, this year's Pro Tour promo is Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student // Tamiyo, Seasoned Scholar! Players who participate in a Pro Tour or World Championship 32 will get a special version of this powerful creature-turned-planeswalker. If you needed even more reason to try playing at the highest level, this is a great reason to do so.

You can find out all about these promos and more in this article on the mothership.

Spotlight Series Toronto Sells Out

As we enter our second year of Spotlight Series events, some are already coming out of the gate with some serious hype behind them. Case in point is Spotlight Series Toronto, which sold out earlier this week! It's not a small event either. The tournament, hosted by Face to Face Games, is capped at a whopping 1500 players - far more than the majority of Spotlight Series events to date. Not only that, but we're still a month away from the event taking place!

This event is set to showcase Lorwyn Eclipsed Limited which has made it that much more popular thanks to being one of the most hyped sets in years. Not to mention the fact that this is also the first major non-Regional Championship happening in Canada in quite some time, which has many Canadian players extremely hyped.

On Thursday, Face to Face Games announced they would be adding 300 more seats. By the end of that day, 70 more seats had sold, indicating a high likelihood that it won't be long before the event sells out once again. If you want to participate, make sure you register now!

Decklist of the Week

We're continuing to see plenty of innovation when it comes to Standard decks, showcasing just how far from being solved things are! The Simic Aggro decks have struggled over the past few months, as the deck just wasn't quite potent enough in spite of its fast starts. As time has gone on, though, it's evolved into an all new build as Simic or Temur Ouroboroid.

This deck takes the same approach of speeding out Ouroboroid but does so with a variety of mana dorks including the powerful Spider Manifestation. This creature untapped when you cast an Ouroboroid, a Quantum Riddler, or a big Nature's Rhythm. The deck also generates enough mana that it's hardly out of the question to drop a Craterhoof Behemoth to close out the game.

I personally won a RCQ this weekend with a variation on this deck and can attest to its power. However, as it boasts playsets of some of the format's biggest cards, the deck is one of the most expensive currently in Standard. It'll be interesting to see if we continue to see fresh innovation like this with the release of Lorwyn Eclipsed in just one week!
