We're fresh off the Debut stream and I covered it in an article right here on CoolStuffInc. In this article, I'm going to be focusing on some of the cool new cards for the set's Turtle Power Commander deck.

This awesome five-color preconstructed deck was revealed by The Command Zone. Soon after, it was also posted to the official Magic: The Gathering homepage via a decklist article and the card image gallery. You can find links to those and other resources at the bottom of this article.
So, with the deck fully revealed, let's take a look at some of the cool cards included in the deck!
Enter The Arcade
In case you weren't aware, the theme for this deck specifically is video games. While many people no doubt know the series from the various TV shows, movies, toys, and so on, a huge part of the TMNT identity for many are the video games.
I know for me as a kid growing up in the 90's, the TMNT arcade cabinet and its sequel, Turtles in Time, were tremendously formative titles. Any time I saw one I had to pop in a quarter and get a round in. For many others, this extended to various Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, and Sega Genesis titles that built on this foundation. That's to say nothing of the later titles that came down the line.
Many of the cards in this deck are direct callouts to this connection. For example, in the arcade games, whenever you'd die, your character would yell, "Awww, shell shock!" The art on Shellshock more directly calls out the moments where your Turtles characters would get electrocuted. Similarly, Big Apple, 3 a.m. represents the first level in Turtles in Time and is a voice sample many readers can no doubt hear in their heads.
Some of these are far more direct nods as well. Turtles in Time famously takes you through a wide variety of time periods and settings with your enemies themed off of those settings. One of the later levels is called Skull and Crossbones - something alluded to in the card Bebop, Skull & Crossbones - and takes place largely on a pirate ship. The boss is Bebop and Rockstready, dressed as pirates. Both characters are included here and the pirate ship is represented by the Sunken Hollow card.
Some cards are less call-backs to the games and more just fun nods to other favorite characters. Favorite faces like April O'Neil, Casey Jones, and Shredder all get new cards here but so too do the likes of Irma, Part-Time Mutant and Ray Fillet, Wave Warrior. Perhaps most interesting is Tempestra, Dame of Games, a character who appears as an arcade game villain who takes on physical form in the real world.
Many of these characters, including Tempestra and Rat King, also saw recent inclusions in the fan favorite 2022 gem Shredder's Revenge. That game is an excellent throwback to the classic arcade beat 'em ups, while also being a fantastic entry in its own right.
Five Main Set Cards Included
In addition to all these new Commander cards, five cards from the main set also show up in this deck and were revealed today as well. These include a few more characters in the form of Lita, Little Orphan Amphibian and Mona Lisa, Science Geek. Lessons from Life shows the Turtles playing a game of Magic: The Gathering with a card that does something fairly similar to the cards Urban Evolution and Eureka Moment. And of course, a five-color Everything Pizza fits this deck perfectly, as does the obligatory Turtle Lair to provide great mana fixing.
Radical New Reprints
As with many Commander decks, this one is also home to tons of sweet reprints. Each is tricked out with brand new art for featuring various Turtles characters and settings.
Many of the deck's biggest inclusions are in the lands, surprisingly enough! Two of the "Battlebond lands" make it in here with Spire Garden and Undergrowth Stadium, providing two red-hot must-haves in an affordable package. More surprising is the inclusion of City of Brass, a popular five-color option that frequently goes for $20 or more, and even its lesser cousin Grand Coliseum makes a showing.
One that I know I'm a big fan of is the Fabled Passage. That one funnily enough calls out the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and its film poster, which depicted the Turtles coming out of a sewer in a very similar fashion. It's a fun way to nod to this classic series for those who enjoy playing with the card in different formats.
A more interesting element is the first-time inclusion of the so-called "Godzilla frame" reskins of several reprints. Expensive cards like Vigor and Steelbane Hydra get reprints this way, allowing more copies to enter players' hands. That's to say nothing of other fan favorites like Acidic Slime, Corpsejack Menace, and Voracious Hydra.
Wrapping Up
That about wraps up this brief look at the TMNT Turtle Power Commander deck! There are tons of awesome cards here, new and old, and it should be a great pickup for any fan of the series. I'll be back to talk about upgrading it in a few weeks, with a much heartier dose of nostalgia as I talk about the classic video games more at length.
In the meantime, you can lock this precon in at your local game store today! Not able to get it locally? No problem! Head on over to the CoolStuffInc page for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles now and you can lock in your copy of this awesome deck or even pick up a few singles that catch your eye.
