Secrets of Strixhaven Previews Come to a Close

Secrets of Strixhaven previews have come to a close as of today. After a fairly unique preview season featuring two weeks of themed preview coverage days, the full set is now available for everyone to browse.

Based on early looks and community reaction, the set looks jam packed with sweet designs and powerful cards. Even better is the fact that the Mystical Archive bonus sheet looks absolutely juiced from top to bottom. Not only is that great for paper accessibility, but also brings many cards to MTG Arena for the first time as well.

Prerelease is coming Friday, April 17. Be sure to check with your local game store and find out when they'll be hosting events for this fabulous new set.

For the first time since 2019's release of the two War of the Spark books, Wizards has finally released an all-new physical Magic: The Gathering novel.

Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos is the latest book by beloved author Seanan McGuire. Though it's set at the school of Strixhaven, it is not linked directly to the Secrets of Strixhaven story, taking place around a year prior to the story for that set. It focuses on a variety of other characters who we haven't gotten dedicated lore for yet rather than the students from either Strixhaven set.

The book appears to be performing quite well, ranking 21st among all books on Amazon as of Thursday evening.

First run hardcover copies each come with a special retro frame copy of Command Tower as well, using art from the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander decks.

Magic Online MOCS Opens This Weekend

Looking for your chance at the Pro Tour, the Regional Championship, or the Magic Online Championship Series (MOCS for short)? This weekend is your chance.

Magic Online will be running a pair of MOCS Showcase Open events on the client, with one taking place on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Both kick off at 7:00 AM PST/10:00 AM EST and will feature Lorwyn Eclipsed Sealed rather than the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Winners of each MOCS Showcase Open event qualify for a Champions Showcase event, Pro Tour Amsterdam, and their region's Regional Championship. That's in addition to all the other great prizes on the line as well.

It's Modern season once again for Regional Championship Qualifiers, which means it's a great time to highlight some awesome Modern decks.

Longtime grinder Ross Merriam took 1st place in a Magic Online Modern Challenge yesterday with this cool build of Gruul Broodscale Combo. When you put a Blade of the Bloodchief onto a Basking Broodscale, you can set up an infinite loop to put an endless number of counters onto your Broodscale. You can also put infinite counters onto a Walking Ballista with the infinite mana this generates or simply make things easy and kill with Glaring Fleshraker as the tokens hit the battlefield.

If you want something different and somewhat out of left field, give this deck a chance. It's a lot of fun, especially if you're someone who formerly played Broodscale Combo in Pauper prior to that card's banning.
